I Have the Sacred Sword?

Chapter 21 – Don’t you think it lasted too long?

And the day arrived.

After an eternal night that felt like it had lasted two weeks, dawn began to rise, and Alexia's group started to get ready.

The sun rose slowly over the horizon, its golden rays scattering across the vast expanse of the camp.

The cold morning air was filled with the whisper of leaves and the distant song of birds.

Alexia woke up first, her ears twitching slightly as they caught the morning light. She stretched gracefully, her movements fluid and precise, and did a quick stretch.

Beside her, Leo was still asleep, his breathing deep and steady. Alexia watched him for a moment before giving him a gentle nudge.

“Leo, it’s time to get up,” murmured Alexia in a soft but firm voice as she finished stretching.

Leo mumbled something incoherent before slowly opening his eyes, blinking at the sunlight. He sat up lazily, stretching his still drowsy muscles.

Beside him, Camila was already awake, sitting cross-legged with her eyes closed, immersed in a brief meditation. Leo ignored this and began to mentally prepare himself, as today was the day.

He had to have that sword in his hands.

Isuke entered the tent with a yawn, his hair disheveled and his eyes still full of sleep. Alexia frowned at this, and before she could say anything, he went back out.

Alexia and Leo started to gather their things to leave the tent as well. Camila followed them silently when she felt there was no one else in the tent.

“Good morning,” Isuke said when he saw his companions outside, his voice still a little hoarse from sleep.

“How long did you sleep?” asked Alexia, frowning.

“I suppose enough, but don’t you think the night lasted too long?”

This question made the girls think for a few seconds, but Leo interrupted, saying:

“Does that matter? Let’s go to the meeting point before it gets any later,” declared Leo before starting to march.

Camila just watched in silence, aware of Leo's growing obsession with obtaining that sword, so she didn’t want to draw his attention.

A part of her felt guilty for not sharing that she also wanted that sword, but…

‘Whoever finds it has the right to make the pact first, right?’ thought Camila as she tried not to smile.

Today was the day.

Alexia's group began to march firmly, the sound of their boots crunching over the snow and small pebbles on the path.

The cold morning air filled their lungs as the sun slowly rose on the horizon, painting the sky with pale, icy hues.

The shadows of the frost-covered trees stretched out, creating a mosaic of light and shadow over the white blanket covering the ground.

Alexia led the march, her cat ears twitching slightly at every sound in the snowy forest. Leo walked a bit ahead of everyone, adjusting the sword Alexia had lent him.

Camila followed closely from behind to better hide her emotions, while Isuke, still a bit drowsy, closed the march with heavy steps.

As they advanced, they reached the meeting point where the other group was already waiting for them.

Seeing this, Leo ran to greet them while Alexia subtly signaled the others to keep moving at the same pace.

Leo exchanged a few friendly words with that group, who laughed at his jokes, but when Alexia arrived, the atmosphere turned more serious.

“Good morning, Aiden. Thanks for arriving early.”

“Oh, don’t worry Alexia, we haven’t been waiting that long. We’ll be at your service until the expedition is over,” responded Aiden in an animated tone.

Isuke watched this scene in silence, as Alexia was certainly very good at negotiating, but a question arose in his mind.

‘What kind of deal did they make?’

The reason for this question was due to the value of the ego-sword. Isuke had ignored this value since the first contact he had with Eleonora, but from the conversation he had with Leo, along with everything they planned, he realized this was not a simple search.

“By the way, this is Isuke. He’s a mage like Mara, but if I had to compare their abilities… they’re quite equal.”

This statement surprised Aiden's group because Mara was a very talented mage.

She mastered almost all elements, and her firepower was impressive, but her biggest flaw… was precision.

“Really?” asked Mara, raising her voice, as she was curious because it was the first time she had heard Isuke's name despite thoroughly studying the methods of all the outstanding mages in the class.

Isuke, hearing the big lie Alexia had just told without flinching, got an idea of how she convinced this group to cooperate.

“Yes. You have my word, but keep in mind that right now Isuke is using a large part of his mana to guide us to the object we’re looking for.”

“That’s quite impressive, how did you learn to use search magic if that’s taught in the 4th semester?” asked Selene with curiosity, as most who took this subject were currently in the 3rd semester.

This question put Isuke in a tight spot, as he never imagined Alexia would put him in this situation, and before he could open his mouth to say anything, Alexia intervened:

“He learned it on his own in the library, but since the spell is still complex for him, he won’t be able to talk much because of it.”

The confidence with which Alexia gave that explanation, coupled with the fact that she had hired them to find the object, made them completely believe that excuse.

Selene and Mara were the most impressed, as they were aware of how complicated it was to understand the spells from the 4th semester onwards.

Then, Alexia introduced everyone to Isuke, and it was there that they got a better idea of the group that would accompany them.

Selene was a healer, and Mara, a mage. Darius, Thorne, and Aiden were knights like Leo.

The formation was set so that the four knights would cover the four flanks of the group, and the mages along with the healers would go in the center accompanied by Alexia in case any enemy broke through the formation.

Although Isuke was dissatisfied with what Alexia had done, as he didn’t understand why, once everyone was ready she gave him an order.

“Isuke, lead the way.”
