Chapter 1: Midtown High School Without Peter Parker
In the early morning, in Queens, New York, on the second floor of a suburban single-family house, an Asian teenager opened his sleepy eyes.
"My head feels a little dizzy, feels like I just had a long dream!"
The teenager's name is Su Ye, a high school student studying abroad in New York from China. He rents the second floor of this house and currently attends 12th grade at Midtown High School in New York City.
Yes, it's the same Midtown High School that Spider-Man Peter Parker once attended.
However, among Su Ye's classmates, there is no Peter Parker—not even in the entire school.
Two months ago, when Su Ye first traveled here, he gained some understanding of this world through the internet.
At that time, it had only been a month since Tony Stark announced that he was Iron Man, and Captain America was still frozen in the Arctic ice, yet to be discovered.
The timeline seems to be somewhere between Iron Man 1 and Iron Man 2.
So, this world is the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although Midtown High exists, Peter Parker is still just an elementary school student.
After discovering he was in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Su Ye first felt excitement, followed by deep anxiety.
Although the Marvel world at this point in time is relatively safe—no alien invasions and no purple villain showing up yet.
But for Earth, danger is never far away and could arrive at any time.
And as a mere mortal, Su Ye can barely survive here, let alone in future dangers. Living in this "peaceful" and gunfight-filled nation, he has to walk on eggshells every day.
Fortunately, as a traveler to this world, Su Ye didn't embarrass his predecessors and received a cheat system.
However, his cheat system is a bit… difficult to describe, compared to others.
[Each day, you get a scratch card. Upon opening it, you receive a girlfriend card of varying levels, granting you the powers of the character and her boyfriend counterpart.]
The scratch cards have levels: a gray card every day, a white card every Sunday, and a green card at the start of each month.
Cards can be combined: every three lower-level cards can merge into one higher-level card.
Opening cards of different levels grants girlfriend cards of different tiers, corresponding to characters and abilities of varying power.
The card color level represents the cards maximum potential, but there's no guaranteed minimum.
In other words, a gray card can only yield gray-level characters, while a green card may give a green-level character—or still just a gray one.
At first, Su Ye tried opening a few gray cards, and the girlfriend cards he got were… indescribable, the kind that would get the book banned if detailed.
Appearance didn't matter; it was clear he had an "enthusiastic" kindred spirit waiting for him…
Last night, after two months of preparation, he finally managed to combine enough cards to get ten green scratch cards.
Washing his hands, Su Ye sat with a solemn expression and clicked for a ten-card draw.
After a flash of cheap gacha game effects, all ten green cards in front of Su Ye transformed.
The ten green cards turned into seven gray cards, two hundred white cards, and one green card.
Perhaps the ten-draw had some hidden guarantee, as a miracle finally happened, and Su Ye saw both white and green cards appear.
[Ding! Opened "Girlfriend Card (Green)" and received an excellent-level girlfriend card "Pretty Top Student Classmate." Use it to obtain a classmate girlfriend.]
Seeing the green card, Su Ye felt like he was seeing the light of God, his whole being practically ascended.
"Use it!" he chose without hesitation.
[Ding! Used the excellent-level girlfriend card "Pretty Top Student Classmate." Classmate girlfriend is being delivered...]
"Uh..."
Seeing the message, Su Ye's smile froze.
"'Being delivered…' what does that mean?"
"This system, you're useless!"
"Hey! System, what's your ID number? I'm filing a complaint against you..."
He complained to the system for a full ten minutes before he finally gave up and went to sleep.
Then, he dreamed.
In the dream, he was a skateboarding, photography-loving teenager who also had an interest in mechanical craftsmanship.
This was very different from the real Su Ye; before the travel, he was an aimless wage slave, and afterward, he was just a mediocre student from China.
But this dream directly gave him three extracurricular skills, making him a skateboard expert, photographer, and DIY crafts enthusiast.
Although it was a dream, everything felt so real that after waking up, Su Ye couldn't resist trying out skateboarding and photography.
He got up, went to an open shop in the morning, and quickly bought a skateboard and camera. Although it cost him a month's living expenses, he was very happy.
Especially when he was zooming down the road on his skateboard, Su Ye, for the first time, felt like he was finally better than a dog.
Su Ye used to watch videos of other people's dogs skateboarding on social media, always feeling like humans were inferior to dogs.
Now, he finally won a round.
Gliding to school on his skateboard, Su Ye was in a great mood.
But shortly after entering the school gates, he encountered something unpleasant.
At the bulletin board, while Su Ye was checking for any news about his class, a basketball suddenly flew over and hit him on the head.
It didn't hurt much, but it was uncomfortable, both physically and mentally.
Su Ye turned around and saw three boys laughing at him, with the leader apologizing insincerely as he laughed.
"Oh, sorry!"
All three boys were big and brawny. Even if they did it on purpose, Su Ye couldn't really say anything.
[Classmate girlfriend has been delivered. Please check!]
The message on the system panel made Su Ye feel that if he could survive and sign (hold hands) with this classmate girlfriend today, it would be a success.
Su Ye didn't know the three boys well, only that the leader was called "Flash" by his followers.
"Flash, huh?"
Su Ye remembered the sloth from Zootopia, also named Flash. Why couldn't you be as cute as that sloth?
Shaking his head, Su Ye walked towards his locker.
