Lord Reiss
- Historia Pov -
'fyuhh'
I couldn't help but sigh as I followed behind my father, and as usual, every now and then, my father would occasionally bring me along with him to one of his meetings.
Even though I am unaware of the reason behind why this event is always held at midnight, I have no other choice but to obey.
Close to the horse carriage, I can see my mother standing there, but she has a look on her face that is different from how she normally appears. Now she appears to be... how do I put this... smiling?
I'm not sure what her smile meant, but her smile vanished as soon as she saw me coming.
My father, who was standing next to me, didn't seem too concerned about the situation, and after the two of them said their goodbyes, my father and I climbed into the carriage.
My mother did not accompany us and was left at home.
When I asked my father why my mother wasn't invited, he responded by saying that my mother didn't deserve to come with him to that place.
I had no idea what my father was referring to, so I just kept quiet and didn't bother him about it again.
After what seemed like an eternity, the horse-drawn carriage I had been riding finally arrived at the familiar mansion. As my father and I dismounted the carriage, I was startled to see several men with menacing expressions greeting my father with respect.
"Lord Reiss."
These terrifying people are armed with a weapon capable of producing a piercingly loud noise that is causing my ears to hurt.
Following that, those individuals led my father and me into the mansion in a very formal manner.
"Lord Reiss."
"Take a look, there he is, Lord Reiss!"
"May you have a long and healthy life, Lord Reiss..."
"May the goddess who watches over the holy wall bestow her blessings upon you."
When we entered the mansion, the people who were already inside approached my father to greet him with a variety of expressions on their faces, just as they had done when we were outside.
Respect, fear, and a whole range of other feelings were mixed together, but for some reason, they tried to hide it with a smile.
'up until this point, I have no idea why they added the word Lord when they mentioned the name of my father.' I thought silently in my head.
My father, however, only smiled gently when facing these people, as if unaware of the facade of those around him.
Following that, we both continued walking in the direction of the hall while still being escorted by the people who had a scary faces.
Everyone in the hallway immediately stopped what they were doing and turned their attention in this direction when they heard the sound of the door opening.
They were all stunned into silence when they realized that the person who had arrived was my father and that I was standing nervously beside him.
I thought, 'in all honesty, I'd rather not be here,' so I repeated it to myself.
'everything about the way they looked at me when they saw me made me feel uncomfortable.'
Nevertheless, during that period of silence, my attention was suddenly drawn to a person who was lazing in one of the hall's corners. Although the lighting in the hall was extremely dim, I could still make out the figure very clearly.
His age doesn't seem all that far off to me, but that isn't what caught my attention because, in this hall, there are also several small children who are the same age as me, but what distinguishes him from the other children in this hall is his appearance.
It's the first time I've met someone my age who has white hair. Normally, only very old people have white hair, so it's surprising to see someone so young with such striking white hair.
He had bright red eyes that stood out even more against the backdrop of his white hair because of the dim lighting in the hallway. I can honestly say this is the first time I've ever seen someone with red eyes.
Because of his peculiar appearance, I could not tear my eyes away from him for some reason. The longer I stared at him, the more I could feel an unsettling sensation spreading throughout my body.
Soon after that, I became aware that the boy was staring at me, and without thinking, I instinctively ducked my head for reasons I could not explain.
"Wait here, Historia."
Then, I was startled by my father's voice, and before I could answer, he had already gone to the middle of the hall. After that, as usual, he began to say a lot of things, most of which I did not understand.

After observing Rod Reiss stride confidently into the middle of the hall while maintaining a composed demeanor, he started making a speech like a king making a statement to his people.
Everyone in the room paid attention to what Rod Reiss had to say, and as a result, only his voice could be heard echoing through the hall.
Ahh... this is such a waste of time, and I also don't really care about the information that he is providing because it is not that important either. Just like the nobles that are present, they're all not that important.
Because of this, whenever I watch the Attack on Titan manga or anime, I frequently find myself laughing and amused.
Imagine for a moment that the various coups that take place throughout the story are nothing more than elaborate comedic shows that are based on complete and utter nonsense. Still, none of the characters involved are aware of this fact. Of course, I have no interest in the minor characters.
But even to the point where the main character and the other important characters around him also participate in the comedy show?
"It was boring," I mumbled in a low voice.
After that, I gave Milch's robe a little tug to get her attention, and even though she didn't seem overly concerned about what was going on in front of her, so she picked up on it right away.
After indicating with a hand gesture that I wanted to say something into her ear, Milch knelt down next to me in order to make it simpler for me to get close enough to whisper in her ear.
After listening to my hushed remark with a solemn expression, Milch stood back up and gave me a slight nod.
"Excuse me, but it appears that little Kaiser needs to go to the restroom."
Both Pastor Nick and Roderich, who were listening to Milch's words, appeared perplexed at first, but after that, Pastor Nick's voice caused Roderich to nod his head in agreement with what he was saying.
"Don't keep us waiting, and get back to us quickly."
After that, Milch took my hand, and without priest Nick and Roderich's knowledge, the direction in which we headed was not the door to the restroom but rather the direction of someone else in the hall.
