Chapter 12: Chapter 12: My Son is Definitely Not That Kind of Person

Chapter 12: My Son is Definitely Not That Kind of Person

"I'll remember that," Chen Ye responded to his father.

Chen's father then mentioned, "Recently, there's a girl named Tang Zichen who's very popular online. You should know about her, right?"

"Yes," Chen Ye replied calmly, "She became famous nationwide for successfully bonding with the S2 hero talent, becoming only the second person in history to achieve this."

"Right! Her father was actually a comrade-in-arms of mine, and our families are close..." Chen's father said. "She has also been admitted to Modu Martial University. I've spoken to her; she'll take care of you in the secret realms. When you get to school, remember to find her and try to get along well with her, understand?"

"Understood!" Chen Ye readily agreed, feeling a deep sense of gratitude inside. His father had really gone out of his way for him. Being a parent is truly not easy!

At this point, his mother, Yang Rongzhi, suddenly interjected, "Son, if you could bring that girl back home, that would be even better. A girl like her fits my standard of a perfect daughter-in-law!"

Both father and son were speechless at her comment.

"I'll try my best!" Chen Ye replied noncommittally.

He was aware that Tang Zichen, having risen to fame at a young age, might develop a proud personality, which he disliked. Even if she was extremely beautiful, it wouldn't change his opinion. The idea of fawning over her was even more unthinkable for him.

"Alright then," Chen's father stood up, "I have some work to do and won't be back for dinner tonight."

Yang Rongzhi expressed her discontent, "Our son is leaving in a few days, can't you stay at home for a while?"

"It's Mr. Tang and his wife visiting. I have to go and entertain them," Chen's father explained reluctantly.

Hearing the surname Tang, Chen Ye guessed that his father, perhaps feeling obliged to return a favor, had managed to arrange things, but it might have upset the parents, who seemed to be looking for a confrontation. Otherwise, if they were just coming to maintain relations, Mr. Tang would probably have also invited Yang Rongzhi, as per etiquette.

Yang Rongzhi, a businesswoman herself, would have certainly thought of this as well.

"Drink less," she advised her husband and said no more.

After Chen's father left, Chen Ye said to his mother, "Mom, I'm going to the basement to train."

...

In the blink of an eye, five days passed.

At the bus station, Chen Ye, carrying his luggage, said goodbye to his parents.

"Mom, Dad, you should head back. No need to see me off," Chen Ye said with a smile. "The station is crowded, and you both are public figures. You might get recognized."

His father remained silent, while Yang Rongzhi said, "Alright, then we won't go inside. Be careful, and don't fall asleep on the bus."

"Okay," Chen Ye replied. "I'll message you as soon as I arrive to let you know I'm safe."

With that, he didn't linger any longer and left with his luggage. Due to some special reasons, supernatural universities start their academic year early, usually in early June, and it was already the end of May...

After Chen Ye left, his parents sat in their car, silently watching his departing figure until he completely entered the station. Finally, Yang Rongzhi sighed and said, "Xiao Chao is always away in the military and can't come back, and now Ye'er is leaving too. Our home is getting quieter by the day."

"I remember," Chen Ye replied.

Chen's father frowned and said, "Children grow up and have their own careers and lives. Do you want to keep them tied to you forever?"

Yang Rongzhi did not argue with her husband but expressed her concern, "Old Chen, have you noticed that Ye'er has changed a lot recently?"

"He does look much sturdier than before, which is a good change," noted Chen's father.

"I'm not talking about that!" Yang Rongzhi said irritably. "I mean his personality. He seems to have matured suddenly."

"Now that you mention it, the boy has indeed changed quite a bit," Chen's father reflected. "Perhaps facing some challenges isn't entirely bad. It can lead to growth."

This led Yang Rongzhi to express her frustration, "My son is already smart. He doesn't need to grow through others' criticism. Old Chen, have you found anything about the matter I asked you to look into?"

"Not yet," Chen's father replied insincerely.

In truth, he had discovered something. He had contacts in the telecommunications company and had checked his son's phone records, noticing that Chen Ye had been frequently contacting a few married women in the past six months, two of whom he recognized.

However, Chen's father didn't want to believe that his young son could be involved with these women. "It's impossible! Absolutely not!" he thought, convincing himself that Chen Ye must have been contacting them for help with homework.

To avoid causing unnecessary worry to his wife, Chen's father kept these findings to himself.

"It's been so long, why haven't you found any clues?" Yang Rongzhi frowned. "Don't you know people at the telecommunications company? Can't you ask them to check our son's phone records?"

"I've already had someone check them. There's nothing unusual about his phone records," Chen's father half-lied. "I even asked some of his classmates, and they said he didn't date anyone at school... I guess he might have met someone online."

"Is that so?" Yang Rongzhi remained deep in thought, while Chen's father started the car and said, "Wife, about this matter, don't be stubborn. If we can't find anything, let it be. At least the boy has come out of it and has become much more sensible. It's a good thing. If he finds out you're investigating him, it might affect your relationship."

Yang Rongzhi wavered upon hearing this.

Changing the subject, she asked, "Old Chen, do you have any plans for Ye'er's future?"

"Xiao Chao has inherited your talent and is doing well. I'm not worried about him," he replied. "But Ye'er, he made a foolish decision at a critical point in his life. If we don't guide him, his future achievements will be limited. I fear that even if we leave the family business to him, he won't be able to sustain it..."

Hearing this, Chen's father frowned, then sighed after a moment of thought, "In his case, there's only one way to change his fate..."

...

Due to the threat of monsters, many transportation channels had been disrupted, causing inconvenience. Despite the relatively short distance between Chen Ye's city and Modu, it took him over seven hours and three train transfers to arrive.

After leaving the station, Chen Ye sent a message to his parents to reassure them of his safety, then hailed a taxi to head straight to Modu University.
