Chapter 4 - 01. Adaptation Complete. (4)
When we completely exited the building, there were more police officers.
About 15 people in total with heavily armed police vans equipped with machine guns. Two vans, at that.
Anyone looking would think we’re raiding the city.
Im Soo-ah, who sent hand signals to get all officers into the vans, then came to my side.
“Since you don’t have a driver, shall I drive for you?”
“The police are being awfully kind?”
“It is only natural when serving you.”
“If you say so then.”
“Yes. Leave it to me.”
Im Soo-ah playfully saluted and got in the driver’s seat.
.
.
The first place we headed was a remote area of Namdong Industrial Complex, which, despite its name, had become a slum and paradise for violent organizations. Though not far from Songdo Future City, where the upper class lives, it’s one of the most chaotic places in Incheon.
Im Soo-ah, who had been chattering non-stop while driving, tensed her face here and busily surveyed the surroundings.
“Young master? This is a place where you could di~e if you make one wrong move. Are you sure this is the right place?”
“Yes. Turn right there.”
“Oh my~. Need to be careful. If we’re not careful, we might stir up a hornet’s nest.”
People came out wondering what was happening as a luxury car and police vans passed through the heart of the Namdong Industrial Complex.
None of them looked well-off.
It was commonplace to have arms and legs replaced with machinery, and some even replaced their heads with strange robot heads.
The common thread was they all carried weapons.
If I had come alone, I probably would have been hit by a stray bullet or grenade and had the car flipped over long ago. Even if I brought hotel security forces, they probably would have tested us.
Having police vans, two of them at that, seems to keep them just watching.
They’d only hurt themselves if they acted up and got mowed down by machine guns.
“There. In front of that abandoned warehouse.”
Our destination amid all this.
It’s a place where I can farm various items, including ‘ninelord,’ that can solve my drug addiction.
Im Soo-ah picked up her radio.
“Don’t come in. Block the entrance with the vans. Warn anyone who approaches. If they still come, just shoot.”
– Roger.
Then she skillfully parked.
Coming outside, we were greeted by sunlight that seemed like it would burn our scalps.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the sun is incredibly hot. This world’s setting has significant global warming and ozone layer depletion.
“But why did you come here? What’s here?”
Im Soo-ah looked around while drawing her gun.
Of course, there’s nothing worth farming in the visible abandoned warehouse, we need to find the secretly hidden basement.
I walked around the warehouse with her.
“Under.”
I tapped it with my foot.
Though it showed no particular difference from the surroundings, as it was thickly covered with dirt, it definitely felt familiar.
The location is right here.
Squeeze.
I crouched down and tried digging a bit, but the ground was too hard.
Seems we need tools.
‘In the game, it just dug up…’
Come to think of it, that was possible because I was playing as the protagonist with monster stats, but Ko Muyeol’s stats are middle school level.
“Don’t you have anything we can dig with? Like a shovel?”
“A shovel? Well…”
Im Soo-ah paused from surveying the surroundings and called one police officer on the radio.
“You called?”
He was a giant who looked about 2 meters tall, with both arms mechanical.
“He says something’s here. Dig.”
“Hmm.”
Indeed.
The giant instantly dug where I pointed and soon discovered a steel door, then looked at me.
It’s structured, so it can’t be opened without the password.
“Move aside.”
Of course, I know that password.
Beep.Beep.Beep.Beep.
Click.
Kuuung.
The door opened, revealing stairs that looked abandoned for about ten years.
“…How did you know? The password.”
“Secret.”
“…”
As I went inside, Im Soo-ah positioned the giant on guard and followed me in.
‘Should I stop her from coming in?’
I had that thought briefly but soon shook my head.
“It’s deeper and darker than I expected… Should I take the lead?”
“It’s nothing much.”
“…Could this be the young master’s secret vault? Or something like that? But why build a vault in a place like this…”
Man, she’s really noisy.
She was like this in the car, too.
‘Maybe I should shut her mouth. My dick would be optimal.’
….
Having that thought suddenly made me get an erection.
Except for her somewhat old-fashioned name and noisiness, Im Soo-ah is pretty and has an alluring body. She must be good in bed.
‘Ah shit.’
Thoughts keep expanding endlessly.
In my head, Im Soo-ah was already stripped naked, sticking out her white buttocks and getting pounded.
Sexual desire flares up.
‘Is it because of the sex addiction? This isn’t easy.’
But I endure it.
Fortunately, sex addiction was easier to endure compared to drug addiction.
Though that’s only relative….
Chik.
I took out a cigarette, put it in my mouth and lit it.
My head got slightly hazy, and the sexual thoughts somewhat disappeared.
“Huuu….”
While I stood blankly smoking, Im Soo-ah looked around.
A metal space with rust marks everywhere and corpses of rats and insects scattered about.
Various objects were stacked randomly, looking like it would take quite a while to search through everything.
“But this place looks abandoned for a really long time. What is it?”
“Who knows.”
I put out my cigarette and started looking for ninelord.
“Look for something like an ampoule. With transparent liquid inside.”
“Is it okay if I touch things here?”
“Yeah.”
“Then….”
It’s not like there’s anything else besides ninelord, anyway.
Of course, if I came as the protagonist instead of Ko Muyeol, there would be much to gain.
Most notably, new drugs not yet released to the market.
It’s a kind of cheat drug with much stronger effects but weaker side effects compared to existing ones. It’s very good for making money quickly and building up businesses in the early game when you’re poor.
But I’m a chaebol, right?
I already have a business too.
Rather than struggling by getting directly involved for efficiency’s sake, it would be better to just quietly run the company.
‘Still, it’s a waste to just throw it away… Should I entrust it to her?’
Brushing back her blonde hair gradually getting wet with sweat, she looks around with her pretty face—she’s undoubtedly a corrupt police officer.
Could I make this woman rule Incheon’s underworld and use her as my pawn?
‘Just because I’m in the light doesn’t mean I have to give up the darkness.’
Loyalty can be bought with money and other things.
I opened Im Soo-ah’s information.
[Im Soo-ah]
Age: 31
Affiliation: Incheon Autonomous Police Bureau Songdo Innovation Future City 3rd Public Support Team
Race: Human
Level: 84
Power: 69
Will: 77
Tech: 91
Leadership: 92
Charm: 89
Corrupt Police, Patience, Greed
She is a wonderfully corrupt police officer with it blatantly stamped in her traits.
Perfect for exploitation. The type who’ll do anything for money.
Though her stats are lower and she’s older compared to Ha Eunyoung (Seo Eunmi), the NIS spy, that woman was unusual, and this level is normal—no, rather above average.
“Kyaah!”
Meanwhile, Im Soo-ah, who had entered one room, screamed.
Thinking she might have found it, I went to look and found her frozen after spilling a box.
“Th-this….”
Drugs.
And an enormous amount at that.
Just one box would easily be worth tens of billions, and such boxes fill an entire room.
If you could sell it properly, you could gain immense wealth.
Im Soo-ah swallowed hard and picked up one spilled package.
The thick transparent package was packed full of powder-like salt.
“…We would need to test to know exactly, but,”
“It’s drugs.”
“…Y-you knew? Well, you knew the password too. Did you originally do drugs… Eep! I-I’m sorry!!”
She panicked at her carelessly spoken words and kept bowing deeply, but when I said I didn’t mind, she finally straightened up awkwardly and fiddled with the package.
Greed shone in her eyes.
Biting one side of her lip with an earnest face I’d never seen before was quite a sight.
She must be torn.’
Just one box would probably cover what she’d earn in her entire life.
That new drug is worth that much.
The problem is my presence.
My status is too ridiculous to kill and dispose of, so she can’t swallow it up even if she wants to.
Well, she could confiscate everything as a police officer for achievements, but honestly, how would that compare to the profits from selling drugs? Moreover, this woman is a corrupt officer.
“What? Going to use that to put me away?”
“I-I would never…”
She trailed off while stuffing the package she was holding and the ones that fell into the box.
Seeing her even reattach the torn tape, I can tell she plans to cover this up if I don’t say anything.
“Are you confident?”
“Pardon?”
“I’m asking if you’re confident you can sell that without problems.”
She froze just as she was putting the box back in place.
“Isn’t it a waste to just leave that buried? If we don’t take it, the ones outside will swallow it up.”
They’re not coming because of the police, but they must be watching this place already.
Once we leave, they’ll come right in to see what’s here.
Therefore, anything here will be lost if we don’t take it now.
“Wh-what do you… mean…”
“You’re the police, and I’m Korea Group’s grandson.”
“….”
“I’m buying a house in Songdo. Move it there. We’ll talk details later.”
“!!”
She opened her eyes wide in shock, swallowed hard, and quietly put down the box.
“Y-yes…”
And immediately used her radio.
.
.
[NINELORD]
A drug that normalizes the abnormal.
Sometimes as a side effect, it abnormalizes the normal.
Effect: Can delete one trait.
Back in the car, I immediately drank the ninelord.
The item description is a bit vague, but simply put, you can choose and erase one trait. The side effect warning is there because it can erase good traits too, but it’s a very useful item if used properly.
I wanted to erase all the bad traits, but unfortunately, there was only one bottle, so I only erased the drug addiction.
Still, that’s something. Breaking free from being a junkie.
[Trait will be deleted.]
My head cleared along with the rising message window.
Now I feel like I can live.
