I Became the Lieutenant Character in a Bishoujo Game.

Chapter 16

[Author: Gggamyeokma] [Title: I’m an Agent Who Walks Around the Lobby Every Weekend, What’s Up Today?]

Even at breakfast in the cafeteria, I saw the Commander and Vice Commander together, and they were having dinner together too. What’s with that?

– [Is this the real deal?]

– [I’m not saying it’s a deal, but they were definitely together. I’d upvote that 500 times lol.]

– [Wasn’t the Vice Commander just hanging out in the cafe?]

This post was all sorts of confusing.

I stumbled upon this board just because I had nothing else to do.

Yesterday, I had a delicious steak, went back to my private room, relaxed a bit, and slept.

There were a lot of things I was curious about, but they probably wouldn’t tell me, so I didn’t bother asking.

“But seriously, what kind of post is this…?”

My head throbbed as I read the post reflected on the screen of my pad.

I really didn’t think I’d see something like this. Honestly, I never expected to get tangled up in it.

To be frank, Lindera is pretty, but compared to the Agent, I felt it could be better.

Her features of blonde hair and blue eyes honestly weren’t anything special compared to the other agents.

“She doesn’t even have cat ears, her appearance isn’t that unique, and she doesn’t have horns or anything.”

Why am I in such a situation in the first place?

At least as the Commander, shouldn’t I be associated with a character who’s a bit more unique and protagonist-like?

No matter how I thought about it, Lindera didn’t seem like that kind of character.

I felt I wasn’t cut out for that, honestly.

“Hmm… Well, she is pretty…”

Is it really necessary to link me up with the Commander?

I do spend the most time with the Commander, but that’s all work-related.

If I really didn’t want it, I could’ve just said I wanted to do all the work in the office.

To be honest, we’ve been managing the office with three people up till now, but the workload would only increase in the future.

It could’ve really been… nice.

“…?”

I suddenly thought of a good solution.

It seemed like I could expand the office space and reduce the workload on Midori and me completely.

Of course, the Commander would never approve that, right?

“What if I could sit next to the Commander, but I work unpaid…?”

Of course, that could never happen.

I knew it was a silly thought.

Could you really exchange labor for, I don’t know, someone’s body…?

That doesn’t make sense at all.

“Well, honestly, agents would love it.”

Thinking like that, I decided to overlook any weird misunderstandings that might arise.

After all, time would fix everything eventually.

Even if you tried to link two unrelated people, nothing special would really change.

Actually, as time went on, that would only decrease.

The contents of the post I just saw would obviously disappear before long.

“Going to work today!”

“Midori!”

“Uh…?”

“Come here for a moment.”

After arriving at work alongside the Commander, I was sitting at my desk, as per usual, waiting.

While I was waiting, Midori came into the office.

I noticed Midori enter and immediately called her over.

I didn’t need to call her right away, but it’s better to share good news first, right?

“I didn’t even arrive late today… suddenly, what’s this? Did I secretly take three cups of coffee the other day…?”

“….”

“Oh, that’s not it?”

Hmm.

From Midori’s perspective, this situation might be a bit startling.

Suddenly, her boss—so for me, that’s the Commander—calls her as soon as she arrives at work.

That’s honestly a bit scary.

“This isn’t that kind of talk. I’m saying you can take the day off today.”

“…Huh?”

“I finished the operation report you need to write for the weekend at the cafe.”

“…Really!?”

Midori’s eyes widened as she reacted that way.

She must be really surprised by what she just heard.

I understood this time as well.

Suddenly, her boss did her work for her and gave her a day off.

“Yes. Anyway, that was the only thing Midori had to do today.”

“Whoa!”

“If you don’t want that, I can give you more work….”

“Absolutely not! I’m definitely taking a break!”

Her panicked reaction was a little amusing.

Of course, she didn’t show it much, but her eagerness to express how okay she was and how she really wanted to take a break was fun to see.

Honestly, Midori’s cheery personality added to that.

“So can I leave right away?!”

“Um… I haven’t mentioned it to the Commander yet.”

“Ah.”

I was planning to let her go early.

But I hadn’t told the Commander yet.

And precisely, I was about to say it.

“Commander? If that’s the case, can I ask you now… is it alright?”

“Since the operation is done, and you don’t need to do any paperwork today, it’s fine.”

“Yay!!!”

Midori began to revel in joy, raising both her hands and feet in the air.

Is that really such a big deal?

Well, after all, she had early leaves on Friday and Monday too.

Who wouldn’t want to enjoy an early leave from work, right?

“Then I’m off right now!!!”

“Take care….”

“….”

She dashed out before I could even finish my sentence.

She really bolted out with the kind of speed that only an agent could muster.

The Commander and I had no choice but to watch her retreating figure.

“Haha….”

“By the way, what do you mean you worked on the weekend? What’s that about?”

Speaking of which, I hadn’t brought that up while having dinner together over the weekend.

She only said she was hanging out at the cafe.

She didn’t mention having done work at all.

Well, I hadn’t had a reason to explain, but I also just spaced out and forgot.

So the Commander’s question surprised me a bit.

“What would a woman do sitting alone at a cafe? I wasn’t looking to meet anyone, I just wanted to kill some time.”

So I decided to give a rough explanation.

Honestly, I had no idea what a woman would typically do alone in a cafe.

“Somehow, I had some time left over, so I just dealt with some work through my pad.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes. I had finished the workload to some extent, so I decided to write up Midori’s last operation report.”

That was really all there was to it.

I had nothing else to do, plenty of time on my hands, and the taste of coffee was bittersweet, so I just started working.

Sure, it was the weekend, and I had done what felt like remote work in a cafe.

“So, I just finished all the stuff that Midori was supposed to do today.”

“I don’t recall assigning you work over the weekend….”

“I did it because I wanted to. So don’t think too much about it, okay?”

“If this continues, doesn’t my image as your superior get a bit weird…?”

“That’s alright. Commander, you’ll naturally look good to the agents no matter what you do.”

“H….”

Wouldn’t it be better?

They’d surely think I had no relationship with the Commander, seeing as I only seem to think about the headquarters’ work!

Of course, I might be wrong.

That post I saw on Sunday had shocked me so much, though, I felt that way even more.

No matter what, bringing living people up on the internet… really felt a bit much.

Honestly, I wanted to make sure that board could never be used again, but I also didn’t want to foil the agents’ lives.

“More importantly… are you really okay working like that?”

“Of course. If I drink some caffeine, I won’t feel sleepy at all. So stop worrying about it.”

It’s not like this was the first time I had done this.

I had gone through it multiple times before, and since becoming Lindera, I enjoyed many caffeinated drinks while working as well.

“By the way, Commander, don’t you have leftover tasks? I don’t have any, but….”

“I do have some… but are you possibly thinking….”

“That’s it. If you have any leftover work, I’d like to help.”

It’s Monday, and it happened to be a day with fewer tasks.

Since I had worked hard on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, my workload naturally decreased.

I figured it’d take only about two hours to finish everything today.

Of course, I had spent most of the weekend working, to begin with.

“Hmm… Well then, let’s tackle this together.”

“What’s it about?”

I stood up and leaned slightly over beside the Commander’s desk.

It wasn’t about the operation report Midori and I were writing; it was an evaluation form for the agents in the ship.

Of course, I wasn’t being evaluated, just doing it to assess the other agents.

In a game, it was the currency used for upgrading characters.

Seeing it in this context felt a bit surreal.

Of course, it felt just as strange when I first saw the operation report.

“I still don’t know much about the agents, so this is indeed difficult.”

“Ah….”

“Can you help me out a bit?”

I have no choice.

I had said I’d help and the Commander really hadn’t been in his position that long.

Naturally, it would take a while for him to get everything in order.

No, scratch that; it’s possible he might not be able to do it at all.

I had to know something in order to write anything down.

Of course… reading the information recorded in the archives would make it somewhat easier, but the Commander wasn’t at that level yet.
