Chapter 80
Bang!
A Werewolf, all tied up with rope, was stuck headfirst in a trash can.
In that state, even if it woke up, it wouldn’t be able to escape on its own.
Plus, I took its terminal, so it’s safe to say it’s completely cut off from any power tonight.
With this, that makes eleven.
That was the number of Werewolves I had subdued.
“Phew, I’m still in good shape. I’ve really grown.”
Back in the day, my telekinesis would have started to wane after taking down a few.
To knock out a Werewolf, I needed to use a strong force to cut off its breathing.
No matter how weak they seemed, it was more work than I’d like to admit.
But I guess hanging around the cracked Raven’s nest paid off.
I must be outputting, sustaining, and reaching distances with twice the power as before.
For now, I still had energy, like I’d just been out for a light jog.
“Still… how many troops are gathered in this little city? How haven’t people noticed this?”
Yet, I still couldn’t let my guard down.
Despite taking down so many, the enemy count showed no signs of dwindling.
Just how many forces did they bring?
Even as I knocked them down, it felt like their numbers weren’t decreasing at all, and it was weighing on my mind.
Plus, I had already spent several minutes secretly taking down Werewolves.
At this point, it was about time for the enemy to catch wind of my attacks.
From here on out, it would probably be harder to find Werewolves wandering alone or in pairs.
That was bad news for me, as I needed to hurry and get to Greg.
“I need to get to Greg soon… but at this rate, I can’t get through!”
The reason I wasn’t heading straight to my destination and was instead taking the long route to subdue Werewolves was simple.
It seemed like they had noses as sensitive as a dog’s; they could sense you by smell even without any noise.
If I rushed in without taking them out, I might get surrounded and caught.
Unless I had confidence like Raven to take them all out in a frenzy, I’d need to be ready to face death.
“Maybe I’ll end up making an irreversible mistake while I’m at it. …Alright, I need to brace myself.”
After all, if I just dawdled around without making a decision, I wouldn’t make any progress.
I took a deep breath to suppress my tension and steadied my resolve.
Being cautious was reaching its limits now.
Since I’d subdued this many Werewolves, there must be some openings somewhere.
Feeling the cold wind seeping through the cracks, I jumped up to the rooftop.
“Echo, I need you to guide me. If you detect a terminal, let me know the direction and distance.”
[Yes, yes!]
Whoosh!
The wind on the rooftop felt like a cold blade.
All I sensed was the musty air typical of abandoned slums and the smell of beasts.
Greg must be around here somewhere. That thought reinforced my resolve.
And without hesitation, I flung myself into the deathly space devoid of even a flicker of light.
Compared to jumping out of a plane, the fear of falling was nonexistent.
My telekinesis was wrapping around me tighter than ever before.
Just before hitting the ground, I was propelled forward like a projectile.
I should say I was thrown instead of flying at that speed.
Without my telekinesis, my frail body creaked and protested in agony.
[Master! Four terminals detected 120 meters ahead at a 30-degree angle!]
There were four enemies on the right. Thanks.
I didn’t doubt Echo’s information for a second and mapped their location in my mind.
Just like I’d programmed, I halted precisely in front of the enemies with sudden acceleration.
“Captain, is that really…?”
“Enemies…!”
“Damn it! Kill…!”
“….”
Were they already on their toes?
They seemed unfazed by my sudden appearance, showing no surprise.
But even so, they were a beat late. The advantage was already mine.
I whipped telekinesis around my legs and slammed down on the ground.
Instantly, the pulled telekinesis ensnared the Werewolves’ entire bodies in an instant.
Then, I forcefully hurled the tightly-gripped Werewolf toward the wall.
“What the—, I can’t resist… urgh!”
BANG!
The Werewolves smashed into the sturdy wall, disappearing inside the building.
They were tough enough that they wouldn’t die from that, but it was definitely sufficient to break some bones.
I didn’t check on the thrown Werewolf’s condition and pushed forward with my telekinesis.
This wasn’t about taking down enemies; it was about clearing a path.
Whether or not the enemy was subdued didn’t matter much anymore.
[Master! An unidentified terminal is approaching rapidly! There are over ten of them!]
But still, the enemy was proving to be no joke.
As soon as I made a ruckus taking down the Werewolf, enemies started closing in.
I’d hoped to stick to the plan of quietly taking them out without leaving traces.
To hurry now meant I’d have to go all out.
It can’t be helped. Ignoring them would just lead to more. I have to wipe them all out while I can.
I began to slow down, seeking the most effective place for my telekinesis.
Fighting from a location of advantage is one of the easiest ways to increase my chances of winning.
‘This should be… fine.’
I quickly found a suitable spot.
It was full of usable objects as weapons and had Cover enough to make it hard to surround me.
Even if the enemy outnumbered me, it looked like I could handle it just fine here.
Crash!
But just then, I heard a thunderous roar from not far off.
The earth-shattering noise made me stiffen up in shock.
Following that, gunfire erupted all around the slums like fireworks going off.
It sounded like a full-blown war was breaking out.
Feeling the seriousness of the situation, my face hardened like stone.
“Wait a minute, those guys have no intention of hiding. That means…!”
They’d been quietly moving until now, but now they were making noise like it was an advertisement?
I could only think of one scenario.
They finally found the target I’d been searching for, and now there was no reason to hide anymore.
Greg has been spotted by the Liberation Army of the Other Races!
Realizing that, I perked up my ears like a rabbit and quickly turned toward the sound.
“There it is! An ambush!”
“Stop that guy!”
“We can’t let him interfere!”
But there were those holding me back. A pack of Werewolves, that is.
As they approached, it seemed they recognized me and raised their voices, aiming their weapons.
Tch, sorry, but I’m not in the mood for a hangout.
Grinding my teeth, I shaped my telekinesis like a giant’s hand and slammed it down on the approaching pack.
Perhaps due to the fact that telekinesis was a formless attack.
Aside from a lucky few who reacted, the rest got squashed under the massive fist.
And when the dust settled, the sight of Werewolves rolling around with their eyes popped up came into view.
Judging by how they trembled, it seemed they were all still alive. Such tenacity!
Despite that, it was a powerful blow that took out more than half of the enemy.
Well, considering the telekinesis I spent, the exchange rate was leaning more towards a loss.
“D-Don’t be scared! It’s magic, magic! Aim for the weak spot!”
“Wind magic? Damn it… what an annoying guy!”
“Kill him!”
The remaining Werewolves fired their guns while slicing at me with sharp claws without hesitation.
It seemed they were taking me for a magician, immediately going for the weak point.
That showed their efficiency as trained soldiers who fought to the death.
Meanwhile, I was just too soft to keep up with their intensity.
I spread my telekinesis like a wall to block the oncoming bullets and lured them into a wider area.
‘Of course, I’m not exactly a magician. And I’m certainly not a soldier who’s going to fight fair.’
CRACK!
The ground where the rushing Werewolves stepped faltered beneath them.
While the floor was rather old, it was made of durable stone tiles.
It was certainly strange that all the rushing Werewolves found themselves in the same predicament.
…Actually, it wasn’t that strange.
I had anticipated they’d rush in straight away.
I merely made the floor around here easier to fall through.
And once the Werewolves fell through the ground, I secured their legs with some dirt again….
They became nothing but puppets unable to move an inch!
“…!”
I pointed my finger at the Werewolf whose legs were bound.
Then the ground split apart, swallowing them and pulling their bodies down.
The principle was simple. This area was within the range of my telekinesis.
I had just buried my enemy in the ground with my telekinesis.
Thinking back, this was the first time I used my telekinesis without holding back.
Until now, I had been fighting while restraining my abilities.
Looking back, that was a rather absurd approach.
The opponents I had faced were Drakels, Lexi, Ethan… all vastly stronger and higher-tiered than me.
Still, I had managed to battle while staying capped, it made me chuckle at myself.
But I couldn’t help it. If the opponent was weaker, there was no reason to unleash full power.
And if they were stronger, there was no way to keep my telekinesis hidden.
That left me with no choice but to work hard at keeping my possibilities hidden.
But now things were different.
There was no need to conceal my telekinesis.
Even if I were found out, there were far more important things at stake.
Just that thought made me feel like the world was shifting in my eyes.
“GAAAAAH!”
“P-Please, save me!”
“I don’t want to die…!”
Thud!
The bodies of the Werewolves were trapped in the ground.
I’d made sure to leave them with breathing holes. They probably wouldn’t die, just feel stifled and uncomfortable.
“Phew… let’s go. To where Greg is.”
With this, there shouldn’t be any worries about hindrances for a while.
Hang in there, Greg, I’m on my way!
Weirdly enough, I wasn’t feeling any fear now.
It was like I could take down any enemy that came my way.
