I Became an Extra Without Growth in the Academy

Chapter 29

A month has passed since Diggerus disappeared.

The news about the Student Council Vice President going missing was hot gossip among the academy students for quite a while, but now, for whatever reason, no one seems to mention it anymore. It’s like the bigger the problem, the easier it is for everyone to brush it off, right?

With the Jibchak Family causing a ruckus at the academy, it’s clear he didn’t return to them. So, where on earth did he go?

There were no events in the game where Diggerus vanished without being expelled, so even I have no clue where he is.

Naturally, this left the position of Vice President vacant.

Alkiné did try to fill the role with someone else, but everyone seems to know how talented Diggerus was, and they turned her down. She even slyly suggested me, but I desperately declined. That spot should go to Seria later. She’d fit much better.

Since then, the matter has been completely neglected.

No one was reliant on him, no matter how strong he was.

The Student Council was originally gathered to tackle the Rift, so losing one member wouldn’t cause it to collapse.

To top it off, Alkiné could cover for him with just a bit more effort… It’s not like we’d feel his absence too much.

At some point, his name and the vacant Vice President spot just faded from conversation, like they never existed in the first place.

I thought to myself, “I must not become like that.”

And so it was.

///

A few days later, the day finally arrived for Lilith to descend from her training.

Not only had she grown stronger… but midterms were approaching soon.

She needed to hit the books for theory soon enough or she’d be in a bind.

Of course, I meant Lilith, not myself.

“Hey Rudion… How do you ace exams while sleeping through lectures?”

Lilith confronted me, as if baffled.

By the way, she scored a whopping 20 points on today’s quiz, out of 100.

Meanwhile, Seria and I scored perfect marks.

Honestly, I was a bit shaky on magical theory, but to my luck, the same puzzle patterns I struggled with in the game came back, and I just plugged in the answers. So, it all worked out in the end.

Sure, I got a few answers by chance… but hey, perfect scores are still perfect.

That’s the vibe that comes from experience, Lilith. If you’re feeling upset, you should try pouring your life into a game like I did!

…Is that boastful?

Anyway, with that said, today was our last day of training.

Honestly, I felt like I hadn’t taught her anything in a while, and Seria was the one doing all the hard work…

“I only pointed out things that were bothering you. I didn’t struggle at all, so don’t worry about it.”

Whenever I mention it, she always responds like that and looks away.

Is she a tsundere or something?

Since today was the final day, I thought it’d be a good opportunity to invite Alkiné to watch from the stands.

“Wait a sec. Isn’t that the Student Council President over there?”

“I specially invited her. Since today is the last training session.”

To be honest, the real reason for inviting her was to show how strong Seria was.

I felt a bit guilty for using her like that. Maybe I should treat her to a meal later.

Well, I say that, but it’s clear that Lilith’s face will be quite the scene by the end.

Her skills have skyrocketed, and she’s grown so much compared to a month ago that she’s practically a different person.

At this rate, you’d have to avoid her links unless you mastered dodging.

Her martial skills were one thing, but the variations of magic she could use were staggering – it’d be impossible to avoid them outright!

Of course, a lot of that was due to the multi-casting methods Seria drilled into her… but still, the fact that she could master such difficult techniques was proof of her growth.

She wasn’t quite ready to enter the Student Council yet, but at this rate, by the time she reaches the second year, I bet she’ll be pulled into the council too.

If that happens, would she accept? In the original, she turned them down, so I was curious about what might happen.

“Don’t be too nervous just because the President is watching. Just act like you usually do.”

“Okay.”

Lilith took a deep breath before charging at me without delay.

It wasn’t just a simple charge. She opened up a space of light, filled it with Holy Power, and created an advantageous environment for herself.

Since all the Holy Power in this space was hers, it meant magic could fly at me from anywhere starting now.

WHOOSH!

Before I could react, light chains formed behind me, attempting to bind me.

I twisted my body to evade, and this time, holy arrows began raining down from above. At first, there was just one arrow, but as the days passed, the count rose, and now it was a volley of five!

Realizing it was too late to just dodge, I used my evade skill to shift away.

Just then, Lilith, having reached me, swung a fist packed with Holy Power.

Her links were impeccably clean. If this were a game, she would’ve received glowing praise like, “This is truly badass!”

If I were just a regular person, I would have been instantly defeated.

But luckily, I wasn’t a normal person. I had the game brain… no, the gamer’s eyes, allowing me to see all the magic she was activating.

Of course, I couldn’t see attacks coming from behind, but for some reason, my body felt the air shift when something was approaching from behind. I evaded the chain just like that.

As I was trying to dodge Lilith’s punch, she suddenly compressed all the Holy Power in the space into her fist… and then… BOOM!

KA-BOOM!

“Wow… you’re really intense for the final day, huh?”

Her determination to land a solid hit was palpable.

If I hadn’t dodged, it would’ve definitely been dangerous.

Despite her disheveled appearance from the explosion, she charged at me again without hesitation.

Seeing that, I drew my sword – something I hadn’t used in all my duels with Lilith until now.

I had planned to bring it out today anyway, but I didn’t expect her to go all out like this.

I felt a bit bad for underestimating her resolve.

Of course, I still couldn’t wield the sword well.

Whenever I visited Frank’s room to practice, I managed to swing it a few times, but I still wasn’t making much progress.

I could mimic the motions I saw in the game, but nothing more.

So, it remained a tool mainly for parrying.

But… that’s all I needed, right?

Since my growth has plateaued, practicing weapon techniques doesn’t suit me.

CLANG!

I dodged all the incoming magic while parrying those I could.

Even without utilizing my parries until now, I hadn’t allowed a single effective blow to hit me. There wasn’t a chance of me getting hit now!

If I kept this up, it would smooth sailing until the final end of our training.

…But if that were the case, I wouldn’t have called Alkiné over.

“Lilith! I’m coming to help!”

“Huh?”

Seria joined the fray beside the struggling Lilith.

Lilith might not know it yet, but Seria and I had an agreement.

Once I drew my sword, Seria would join the duel as well.

Since this was to showcase to Alkiné, I told her to go all out and not hold back.

Facing two mages might be a bit much, but if we give it our all now, Seria wouldn’t be down about being unable to keep up with the Rift later.

Honestly, I was curious about how capable Seria really was at this point.

“Alright then, I’m going in. Rudion, just know I won’t hold back!”

“…Wait a sec. Does it even mean anything for me to fight alongside her?”

“Lilith, this is about intensity. Just carry that mindset and give it your all!”

“Wow, you really sound like Rudion now!”

With that, the 2v1 duel began… and honestly, I’ll say this: if things had gone even slightly wrong, I could’ve been dead.

Seria… was beyond my imagination in strength. When five magic spells launched simultaneously, at a level that could wipe out the cafeteria ceiling like last time, I nearly jumped out of my skin.

Why on earth is she this strong? Even considering the harder difficulty, her growth was absurd!

At this level, she could solidify her top seat as a second-year, or she could even be prepped for graduation.

On top of all that… Lilith’s links were also super dangerous. While they might not match Seria’s power, they were definitely sharp in targeting openings!

I never expected to utilize the parry cancel technique until now, but here we were because of Lilith!

After everything was done, the training ground was a complete mess.

Seria’s magic had wreaked havoc, and the spectators were getting caught up in the chaos, yet surprisingly, Alkiné’s seat remained perfectly intact.

It seemed she had her own way of managing amidst all the craziness, and honestly, it was starting to freak me out.

Anyway, this should prove Seria’s strength now, right?

From the next Rift expedition forward, she’d definitely be called along too.

And Lilith will…

“I suddenly feel super insignificant now.”

Sorry, I genuinely didn’t know Seria would be this insane.

But you did great too! I think you’re definitely at a top-level position among first-years now.

Despite Seria being completely out of the ordinary, Lilith had still managed to achieve this kind of growth in just a month, which was remarkable!

Of course, it seems she doesn’t realize that… but well, she will likely figure it out during the practicals of this mid-term.

Don’t be too disheartened, Lilith! The important thing is to have an unyielding spirit!
