I Became an Extra Without Growth in the Academy

Chapter 19

Not long after, Professor Reina arrived at her seat.

Seeing Alkiné having flown in on her back, it was impressive that she didn’t look disheveled at all.

Anyway, as soon as Reina got there, she started using her abilities to heal the injured, and the grotesque limbs of those affected began to revert to their original forms.

Kududu-duk—

Of course, there were bizarre sounds during the process, but since no one screamed, it seemed there was no pain involved.

So that’s how it works! Well, considering she can regenerate lost limbs, fixing a bent one is a piece of cake.

Still, witnessing it firsthand was quite fascinating. In games, no matter how good the effects are, the descriptions are just a bunch of text, while the actual demonstration is just things like maxing out your HP or clearing status ailments.

Seeing her abilities in reality felt miraculous enough to make me think that no wonder nobility doesn’t mess with her lightly.

It took her only a few minutes to completely wipe out the severity of the earlier incident.

After treating everyone, she glanced around and our eyes met.

“Rudion? What are you doing here?”

“Well, it just kind of happened.”

“…Alright, you seem to be fine. Be careful.”

What’s with that? Why is someone who likes gaining experience even if they get hurt saying that?

I couldn’t understand it, but I simply nodded in agreement.

“Is there anyone left in pain? If not, I’ll be on my way. Anyone with lingering issues should come back… Student Council President? Make sure to write up and submit a solid report.”

After that, she seemed to think there was nothing more to deal with, leaving only those words behind as she turned to leave.

Her demeanor made it seem like this kind of incident was nothing to worry about, which filled me with a bit of awe.

What kind of life has she lived…?

From there, things moved quickly.

Those who had been unconscious started to wake up one by one, sharing their joy, and afterward, we all headed back to the Student Council building for one last health check. Eventually, we disbanded.

During that, Alkiné declared that we would temporarily halt Student Council activities to ensure everyone’s stability, but since the Rift had been dealt with, there wasn’t much to do anyway, so the atmosphere was accepting.

As people trickled out one by one, soon only familiar faces remained inside.

Me, Alkiné. Then Diggerus and Grain.

While it made sense for Alkiné and me to stay because we had something to discuss, why were Diggerus and Grain still hanging around?

That question was soon answered by Alkiné herself.

“Vice President. Didn’t I tell you to go back and recuperate?”

“You can’t just let the President work alone. I’m perfectly fine, so you don’t have to worry about me.”

“…Alright. If you’re saying that, I won’t stop you. Grain, why are you still here?”

“I have matters to discuss with that junior, so don’t mind me.”

Suddenly I was pointed at?

I was taken aback by the unexpected attention, but I could think of several reasons.

Like the time I sent a mocking letter and then ran away… and the first person I locked eyes with after coming out from the Rift was Grain.

He must have something he wants to talk about.

Thanks to that, I wouldn’t have time to chat with the President.

I hadn’t even figured out what kind of excuse to give, so this was kind of a relief. I should just slip away and look for the next opportunity.

“Well then, I’ll be going back with Senior Grain.”

“What are you talking about? Rudion, you need to come with me to help write the report.”

“…Why should I help with that? You’re the Vice President.”

“From today on, you’re the Secretary.”

“Huh?”

I knew that in the Student Council, there were only the President and Vice President, so where was this Secretary business coming from?

Look over there! The Vice President’s eyes are popping out and glaring at me!

Even if I’m not the Vice President, newly joined first-years who just got here can’t simply take on an executive role like that. There’s no way I could do that!

So I expressed my refusal…

“I really don’t want to.”

“Well, you can leave the Student Council if that’s how you feel.”

“Why are you being so extreme about this?”

I received an unexpected ultimatum.

From her perspective, it wasn’t strange; after all, I was the one who took care of a Demon by myself.

In the Student Council, where brute strength took precedence over basic human decency, that incident would likely raise my status beyond the President’s if the word spread.

So in the President’s mind, I must have already taken up the position of top predator.

Thinking about it that way, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable for her to offer me a position.

The problem was that the rest of the Student Council, besides Alkiné, didn’t know what had happened today.

Bringing in new members wasn’t the issue, but suddenly giving an executive role to a first-year?

Sure, they might not openly oppose it due to the President’s authority, but it was certain some would harbor dissatisfaction.

She must be aware of that too, so why push so hard?

No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t figure it out.

In the game, my interactions with her were only from the perspectives of the Student Council President and members, and the setting books were just a list of fragmented information, so they didn’t cover these deep emotional shifts.

Well, let’s put that aside for now.

This isn’t something to be brushed off lightly, but for the moment, it was.

Even just taking up an executive role is a huge hassle.

Secretary. Essentially, it usually involves recording the contents of meetings.

But from what I’ve heard Alkiné say now… it seems I’d also be tasked with organizing exploration records and writing reports.

In truth, since I know most things about Rift environments, structures, and the behaviors, characteristics, and weaknesses of monsters that appear inside, writing reports tailored to actual explorations wouldn’t be that hard for me.

I actually enjoy tidying things up and writing them down.

I mean, I’ve even completed and posted various guides online, with everything from escape timing spreadsheets to the works!

But that’s something I do when I feel like it.

If I have to force myself to do it just because I’m given the title of Secretary, it sounds like a massive chore!

Should I just take her advice and leave the Student Council instead?

That’s a bit troublesome. I need to unlock my inventory.

“Dilemma, you’re so extreme!”

A melody that sounded familiar suddenly started echoing in my head.

At the same time, I remembered the serious scenario I glanced at earlier.

[Congratulations! You have successfully conquered the Rift!]

[Calculating contribution…]

[Your contribution percentage is 79%.]

[This feature is currently locked.]

[Unlock conditions: Successfully conquer a total of 5 Rifts with a contribution of over 40% (1/5)]

Thanks to taking down the Demon on my own, I had a massive contribution percentage.

Because of that, I was already one step in.

And I’d need to do this four more times… but if I left the Student Council, I’d have to bolt out of the Academy to make it happen.

Truthfully, being in the Academy doesn’t hold much meaning at this point since my stat growth is stalled.

But if I considered leaving now… that wouldn’t hold much significance either.

After all, most major events occur at the Academy. There’s no real reason to leave.

I don’t know why she suddenly created the role of Secretary out of nowhere… but it’s definitely easier to just accept the position instead of leaving the Student Council.

Having reached that conclusion, I could only nod my head, feeling like I was swallowing mustard.

“Understood. Let’s give it a go.”

“Good thought! Then I have some things to discuss regarding this report, so follow me for a moment.”

Wait a second! You’re not making a mess just to set a place for me, right?

Pfft, no way. Alkiné isn’t that reckless.

She couldn’t be, could she?

Following Alkiné, we entered a small room inside.

This was a space used as the Student Council President’s workspace.

Considering it was just for writing reports, there wasn’t much in there—just piles of paper, pens, and ink for completing the reports.

As soon as we entered, Alkiné sat down and started writing something.

The sound of her pen scratching was quite pleasant.

After a moment, she put down her pen and spoke up.

“There’s not much room to sit, so I hope you can tolerate standing.”

“It’s fine with me.”

“Alright then… let’s talk about the important stuff first. If you have any requests on what you want regarding this incident, let’s hear them.”

To sum up our discussion, it went like this:

I brushed past the part about my powers, saying I couldn’t disclose them.

Alkiné didn’t seem interested in digging deeper, accepting my statement without further questions.

Then we agreed that Alkiné handled things solo during the incident.

I, totally clueless upon entering, lost sight of Alkiné as she bolted out, and ended up lost and wandering, playing the extra role of breaking free along with taking down the Rift.

Alkiné, thanks to that demon’s whims during battle, somehow survived, escaped, and later found the Rift stone to destroy it—effectively playing the role of a hero.

Honestly, that was the most believable story we could come up with.

Alkiné didn’t seem to offer any disagreement.

Although it might be communicated as the Demon coming back, it shouldn’t be a problem since Crumple wouldn’t cause any trouble even if he didn’t show up in the game.

After we wrapped things up, Alkiné picked up the paper she’d been scribbling on and showed it to me.

What she showed was a neat summary of everything we discussed up to that point.

“Is it okay to report this?”

“It’s perfect. Doesn’t seem like I need to do anything as Secretary.”

“What are you talking about? This is your job moving forward, so I’m showing it to you for reference.”

“Hey. My handwriting is terrible. Please take that into account.”

“Right. In the end, it won’t be me reading it, but the higher-ups.”

She didn’t deny it, and it seemed she was amused at my remark.

But thinking about it, she’s right. The report will be reviewed by the dean or the professors.

If I accidentally blurt out some irrelevant TMI, I might get showered with love calls from all the professors! Just thinking about it sends chills down my spine. Better be careful!

At that moment, Alkiné pulled out another piece of paper and began writing something new, a light question escaping her lips.

“By the way, you didn’t seem to be trying to hide your strength, yet to simply say you did nothing? That’s unexpected.”

I’m not hiding my strength; it’s that I don’t have the power to hide it!

But it seems like there’s too much misunderstanding to clarify that…

“Big power comes with big responsibility, doesn’t it? I’m just not keen on taking on that responsibility.”

“From what you say, you seem quite responsible after all.”

What is she basing that on? She might have a keen eye for talent but seems to lack one for character judgment.

Regardless, compliments are never unwelcome.

“Well then, I’ll be heading back for today.”

“Right. I’ll write up the whole report, so our new Secretary should get ready to work harder next time.”

With that conversation wrapped, I left the room.

And…

“Can we have a quick chat?”

As soon as I stepped out, I was grabbed by the Vice President.

Looking back, I noticed Grain was also watching me from behind, waiting for his turn.

Looks like I might be quite popular? Not that I need this kind of popularity…

Well, whatever. I was destined to stand out, especially since I needed to meet the inventory unlock conditions during the Rift conquest.

Now that I’m an executive, let’s shake things up in the Student Council!
