I Became a National ‘Disaster’ Level Monster

Chapter 15 - I Won't Hold Back Any Longer

Chapter 15: I Won’t Hold Back Any Longer

The reason why the threat level of a monster was measured the same way as a hunter’s “grade” was for quicker comparison and extermination.

An E-rank threat-level monster would naturally be dealt with by at least a D-rank hunter, while a B-rank threat-level monster would be handled by an A-rank hunter.

And if the monster had the potential of being a national disaster-level A-rank, only hunters of national power could deal with it comfortably.

But such an A-rank monster was right in front of us.

“What should I do…?”

The reason the Twinhead was sitting in front of the large shelter.

It was obvious. It must have sensed the largest concentration of human presence there.

It had found its prey.

However, shelters for monsters were designed in such a way that even officially top-tier classified A-rank monsters couldn’t breach them.

Even the Twinhead couldn’t do anything, so it just sat there with a sense of regret.

But as luck would have it.

Good things come to those who wait.

A group of about 50 humans emerged through the sewer behind it, walking straight into its path.

The 15-meter giant slowly began to rise, turning one of its heads backward.

Yu Che-ran realized.

Even if they retreated back into the sewer, it could dig through and devour them all.

“Shin-woo! Quickly take the people inside to the shelter!”

“What?! What about you, Che-ran?!”

“I’ll buy some time and join you last!”

“…! Alright, understood.”

In this situation, no better plan came to mind than having one hunter act as bait.

So, I nodded and immediately exited the sewer, shouting to the people below.

“Come out quickly! Hurry!”

“What, what’s going on?!”

“There’s a giant out there that can crush the sewer! If you don’t want to become dried fish, get out now!”

“…! Yes, yes!”

I pulled the people coming up from below to help them get out faster.

Meanwhile, Yu Che-ran, who in the original story was a mere “C-rank hunter,”

“Haah!”

was a fighter hunter, the only hunter profession that couldn’t equip weapons.

As a result, she was one of the few hunters who couldn’t benefit from the usual equipment boosts.

But her advantage was:

Smack!

Thwack!

Thud!

“Grrr?!”

“Phew…!”

Every attack she landed, even if it missed, would always hit a critical point.

In other words, every part of the Twinhead she attacked became a weak spot.

“Not that it would make much difference given their vast skill gap…!”

Still, a skin that otherwise would have felt nothing might at least feel like it had been bitten by a mosquito.

Yu Che-ran, watching from a distance, played her bait role well.

Intentionally dodging in and out of the giant’s sight, she darted between its legs, looking like a mouse taunting a cat.

“Everyone’s out, right?”

“Yeah! Bro, we’re all out!”

“Alright. Then we’ll walk in an arc to avoid the Twinhead. Understood?”

Thanks to Yu Che-ran, the Twinhead didn’t seem to notice our group of survivors who had emerged outside.

Our plan was to move in a wide arc around the giant and safely reach the shelter.

The Twinhead, despite its massive size, was an incredibly perceptive monster.

If even one person started running, it would detect the movement and discover the fifty tasty snacks that had come out of the sewer.

“Alright, everyone, let’s stay calm and move…”

We began walking, all silently signaling to each other not to run.

Meanwhile, I could see sweat pouring down Yu Che-ran’s face from afar.

“Che-ran…!”

“Huff… Huff…”

Fighter hunters, unable to use weapons, each had a unique martial art style to specialize in unarmed combat.

Yu Che-ran’s style, born in Korea, was naturally Taekwondo.

“Why is it so tough?!”

Despite her powerful low kicks, high kicks, spinning kicks, and even the signature 1080-degree kick of Taekwondo, the Twinhead remained unscathed, standing firm.

Yu Che-ran felt a chill run down her spine.

It was like facing a giant mountain itself.

However, seeing the people moving in an arc toward the shelter, she remembered her purpose.

“I’m a hunter… Yes, I must prioritize protecting people!”

The purpose of a hunter wasn’t to defeat monsters.

A hunter’s true purpose was to “save people” from monsters.

Having nearly died sneaking into her father’s workplace and being saved by hunters, she knew this well.

“If you can’t win, buy time.”

“And once everyone is safe, abandon your pride and retreat.”

These were the teachings of her mentor, Rolling.

Recalling her teachings, Yu Che-ran steeled herself against the undefeatable foe, her pride in saving people being her greatest weapon.

She felt unbeatable.

“Whoaaaa… Oh?”

“…! Che-ran!”

The moment the survivors began entering the shelter, the Twinhead suddenly raised both heads skyward and lifted one hand high.

I felt a chill as I realized we had hit the lowest possible odds.

“This is too much…!”

The rare ability of high-risk A-rank monsters: the “special powers” only a few could wield.

“Raaaaarrrrrggghhh!!”

A monster’s unique equipment.

Exclusive gear for the monster itself.

As the Twinhead roared at the darkening sky, a black lightning bolt struck its raised palm.

“What is that…?”

Then, in the previously empty hand of the Twinhead, a massive, black, flaming ogre’s club appeared.

“The Twinhead could use ‘Magical Gear’?”

The probability of encountering a creature capable of using Magical Gear among the same species was exactly one in ten thousand.

In other words, it was like discovering a hidden monster you’d almost never see in a typical RPG game.

But for it to appear right when there were so many survivors forming a group, and right when Yu Che-ran was acting as bait—what a string of coincidences.

As these unbelievable events piled up, I could only think of one possibility.

“Today is the day! The last day of the prologue where Yu Che-ran dies…”

In the game, this part passed by so quickly that I didn’t know exactly when or how it happened.

I just arrived at the scene and found Yu Che-ran’s severed head rolling on the ground.

Seeing this scene now, it was clear.

“Raaaaarrrrrggghhh!!”

Boom.

The Twinhead slammed its ‘Magical Gear – Ogre’s Club’ down towards its feet.

Even with Magical Gear equipped, the monster’s inherent abilities remained the same, so Yu Che-ran evaded the attack like a nimble mouse, hiding behind its heel.

However, that was a mistake.

“Che-ran! Below you!”

“Huh?!”

Black energy began to radiate from where the ogre’s club had struck.

Then…

Crackle.

“Aaaaarrrgh?!”

“Che-ran!”

From beneath the ground within a 100-meter radius, black thunder surged up, engulfing the startled Yu Che-ran in an instant.

And when the ground stopped shaking…

“Che-ran! Snap out of it!”

Yu Che-ran was lifted before the Twinhead’s face, her hair gripped between its thumb and forefinger, each the size of a human.

Her body hung limply, suggesting she had already reached her limit.

“Shin… woo…”

By then, all the survivors had already fled into the shelter.

On the road in front of the shelter, only Che-ran, the Twinhead, and I remained.

And usually, when even the greatest person is about to die, their true feelings come out.

Flick-. Flick-.

“…!”

Che-ran weakly waved her hand toward me with her last bit of strength.

The gesture was simple.

She wasn’t asking for help. She was telling me to take this chance to ‘escape.’

Smiling faintly even as she knew she would be chewed up soon, Che-ran lost consciousness completely.

“Damn it…”

In the prologue, we met briefly and parted ways, so I didn’t know her well.

But even though I could have protected her, I had driven such a person to her death.

There had never been any vengeful spirit here. What had been here was a true hero.

“Shit…!”

There wasn’t anyone watching, anyway.

…No, forget it.

I had already lost it, and whether anyone was watching or not, I’d deal with the consequences later.

“Raaaaarrrrrggghhh!!!”

***

The Twinhead was pleased.

It felt like a chef who had caught the thieving mouse that always stole ingredients from the pantry early in the morning.

Thinking about crunching up the pesky insect that had been annoying it at its feet, the monster was grinning ear to ear.

How should it eat this one?

Should it just chew it up like the previous bugs?

No, if it did that, it would end up spitting out the tasteless head like before without savoring it properly.

So, it planned a more refined meal.

First, it would pluck off the insect’s two legs and eat them.

Then, it would use its front teeth to nibble and bite off one arm into small pieces, and crush the remaining arm with its molars.

Finally, it would put the body of the insect, which would be crying out in pain just before it died, into its mouth to dissolve and savor it.

The Twinhead laughed gleefully as it devised its gourmet plan.

“Raaaaarrrrrggghhh!!!”

A roar from right next to it.

Then, an overwhelming killing intent it had never felt before shook its entire body.

“Grrk?!”

Instinctively, it raised the ogre’s club towards the shelter in a defensive stance.

But it was too late.

Crack.

The thumb and index finger that had been gripping the insect, along with all the other fingers, had already fallen to the ground.

However, the Twinhead didn’t even have time to scream.

It was already there, right beneath it.

A jet-black monster, holding the unconscious Yu Che-ran in its arms.

Ten years after the “Laughing Monster Incident” in Busan.

The “Monster of Jamsil” had once again revealed its identity on the Korean Peninsula.
