Chapter 5 - Card Drawing Ability (3)

Chapter 5: Card Drawing Ability (3)

Looking around, the arrangement of the office looked plain and simple as one would expect of the military men and women. Everything was neatly arranged while a brown and tidy desk rested in the middle of the office.

Sitting behind the desk was a middle-aged officer dressed in service uniform. His eyes were grim, and lips tightened while looking at the two fiercely as his two hands rested flat on the desk.

Looking at the officer’s insignia, Kyle knew he was the commander.

The officer was known to others as Brandt, Chief Commander of the Recruit Training Super Soldier Operation. Standing next to the officer was a black-haired female agent dressed in simple clothing. Her eyes never left the document she held in hand.

“Recruit, how’s your body?” Officer Brandt said coldly.

“Sir, this Recruit’s body has healed and requests permission that he begin training immediately!” Kyle screamed from the bellows of his lungs.

It was expected of a recruit to shout as loud as they can.

“There’s no need. You will no longer resume training. Head back to the barracks and quickly pack up. Someone will send you home tomorrow morning.”

Steven’s countenance morphed. Officer Brandt’s statement spelled the death of Kyle’s military career long before it began.

The black-haired agent said nothing, only lowering her head to record a statement.

Kyle remained calm.

“Permission for this Recruit to speak freely, Sir?” Kyle asked respectfully, but before giving the officer a chance, he continued on. “This Recruit insists he continues his training, Sir.”

Officer Brandt snorted. “Continue? Training? What training? You had a heat stroke on the first day of recruit training. Son, you don’t have the discipline, willpower, and determination! You’re lacking! I’m afraid this isn’t good enough, Recruit. You simply think this is a game!”

“Did Sir ever ask what qualification he has to offer?” Steve blurted out.

Officer Brandt’s eyes quickly swept over Steven’s thin and frail body. He counted the blonde-haired youth as one who’d soon leave this place together with Kyle.

In the face of immense pressure, Kyle did not relent. He breathed deeply and stepped forwards slightly. “This Recruit requests that Sir give this Recruit a chance. Sir, this Recruit will show that he is qualified to continue Recruit Training.”

Kyle bravely stepped within a three-meter distance between him and Officer Brandt. His eyes flashed and soon, more than thirty white and green skill cards appeared and hovered above Officer Brandt.

Good! He’s not an officer for nothing… to think he’d have nine green skills card. Hehe… landed a gold mine here!

「Pistol Master」,「Rifle Master」,「Radio System Master」,「Martial Arts Master」…

Officer Brandt smiled coldly. “Son, you talk small. What do you want to show me?”

He was surprised. To have the means to speak such words in that sort of manner, one needed the ability and self-confidence to boast of their might else they’re only conceited beings who think too highly of their lowly abilities.

Officer Brandt began wondering what Kyle would show him. Would he be left in surprised wonder or grim disappointment?

The black-haired agent shook her head lightly. Her initial goodwill thought of Kyle diminished and only grew worse. Though he braved here with great willpower to continue training despite all odds, the female agent felt it was unable to compare to Steve Roger’s honorable values.

“If Sir does not believe in this Recruit, would Sir be willing to make a bet?” Kyle’s charming eyes twinkled evermore.

A sense of excitement flooded his body after seeing Officer Brandt’s skill cards.

“If this Recruit wins, then he will stay. If this Recruit loses, then he will go.”

“Bet?” Officer Brandt looked at Kyle idiotically. “Son, you want to play cards and toss coins?”

“Of course not, Sir! This Recruit only wants to compare skills with you, Sir!”

“Enough! Don’t be too arrogant.” Officer Brandt quickly stood up from his swivel chair and hurled his enclosed fist on the table. “As a recruit, one needs to know when to speak and when to shut them goddamn mouth! Son, you have no bearing of a soldier! None!”

Kyle did not cower back. He replied sincerely. “Sir, this Recruit certainly did not mean to offend you. It was not of this Recruit’s intention. Sir, this Recruit is serious, only wanting to show his sincerity to continue training and prove his worth and qualification.”

“Very well. I approve.” Before Officer Brandt had the chance to respond, the black-haired agent who stood silent suddenly interjected. “How do you wish to compare with Officer Brandt?”

“Anything dealing with weapons, M’am.”

The black-haired agent examined his eyes, attempting to find any revealing flaws.

“I think he should be given a chance.” The black-haired agent said bluntly. Then, she reverted back to her complacent attitude.

“Son, to compare shots with me… heh… I’m not sure if you’re too overconfident or you’ve simply lost your mind. Alright, I’ll play with you.” Officer Brandt chuckled lowly and sat back on the chair. “Go back to your barracks and prepare yourself. Meet me in the shooting range in 1700. [I] There, we will compare shots with a fifty-meter target using a weapon of choice.”

“Yes, Sir.” Kyle replied hastily.

Everything had gone as expected. Kyle looked at the black-haired agent from the corner of his eyes. He wondered if she held a far higher status than Officer Brandt. She was, after all, able to placate his rising anger. Then… she should have a good skill that’d come in handy.

Smiling inwardly, Kyle’s eyes flashed and he almost fell in shock.

The black-haired agent had more than seventy skills cards! It not only hovered from above, it surrounded her body whole!

「Psychology Master」,「Medical Care Master」, 「Morse Code Master」, 「Assassin Master」, 「Rifle Master」, 「Etiquette Master」……

Kyle’s heart was giddy. There stands at least twenty green skill cards ready for the plucking. And among the throughs was a deep green the color of the evergreen. The skill card differed from the ordinary green skill card.

“Since this is a bet, won’t you bear witness to the scene? It’s better to have a paper certificate as proof than none at all.” Kyle smiled and hinted words of suggestion.

To extract the rare skill card, it’d surely take more than three minutes of his time. For the extraction to be valid, he’d need to be within a one-meter distance.

Kyle can see the future clearly.

Victory was within his grasp so long as he’s able to pluck the rare skill card.
