Chapter 170: God of the Shinobi
In the heart of Iwagakure, the Village Hidden in the Stones, Ōnoki, the Third Tsuchikage and the esteemed grandson of the First Tsuchikage, furrowed his brow as he perused the latest intel from the Sunagakure battlefield.
"Controlling natural lightning? But aren't the Uchiha renowned for their mastery of fire release?" He mused aloud.
The Sharingan and the art of fire release were undeniably synonymous with the Uchiha clan. It left Ōnoki astonished that one of them not only exhibited flying justu but also wielded formidable lightning attributes.
However, he harbored no inclination to retreat. His army stood mobilized, primed for the impending clash. The concept of a flying jutsu posed no challenge for Ōnoki; in fact, he was a master of the skill, not just for himself but for his allies as well.
Deciphering the underlying principle of this enigmatic technique, Ōnoki recognized it as a fusion of flying ability coupled with the manipulation of lightning. While admittedly intricate, it did not daunt him; it was a challenge within the realm of the achievable.
Once he comprehended the mechanics of the jutsu, countering it became a straightforward task. His perception of this adversary shifted—no longer an elusive god of the Shinobi tier, but a formidable opponent nonetheless.
--------
Kumogakure, the hidden village of Lightning, a voice echoed with enthusiasm.
"Early morning training… Training is hard. Yo, me, who loves to rap... and it's lunchtime... Sukiyaki had. Oh… yo!" chanted a figure immersed in both the art of rap and training.
This individual possessed a distinctive appearance—sunglasses adorned his face, tan skin reflected his outdoor resilience, and blond hair added a touch of flair.
The kanji for "iron" adorned his right shoulder, while marks resembling ox horns graced his left cheek. Engaged in a unique form of training, he seamlessly swung seven swords with unconventional and rapid movements.
A is the son of the Third Raikage. A distant voice interrupted the rhythmic spectacle, calling out, "Hey, Bee, stop training; the army is ready, and it’s time to go!!"
Acknowledging the message, the man known as "Bee" halted the relentless swing of his swords, all while maintaining his rhythmic rap.
"Yayy!! I got it, big bro!! Yo!" He affirmed, seamlessly transitioning from rap to military readiness.
With unparalleled agility, Bee smoothly sheathed his seven swords, executed two flips, and rose to his feet.
"Father's order, move over and make camp, and then assess the situation!!" commanded A authoritative voice.
"OK, but!! Listen!! The Land of Fire... Konoha Village, yoy!! They have a god of the Shinobi now, yo!! Are we going to fight a god of the Shinobi? Yo elder bro!!” Killer Bee waved his hands emphatically, all the while maintaining his rhythmic rap.
A smirked scornfully in response: “Hmph, do you buy that kind of rumor? It’s just using lightning releases to attract natural lightning. What can this technique do to us?"
Once they grasped the release principle, countering it proved to be no challenge. As seasoned lightning users, redirecting the lightning away by manipulating their own lightning was a straightforward tactic.
“Yay!! Big bro!! You’re right, we are! Let’s go, yo!!”
With another rap, the duo energetically headed towards the 10,000-strong Cloud Ninja army, undeterred by the supposed godly prowess of their adversary in Konoha.
------------
Konohagakure, the Village Hidden in the Leaves, buzzed with conversations about a recent extraordinary feat.
"Wow… That’s incredible," murmured a villager in amazement.
“Using natural lightning? He actually made a kind of ninjutsu; the Uchiha clan leader is really strong," pondered another, marveling at the prowess displayed.
“But is it true that he alone can fend off thousands of sand ninjas??” questioned someone, expressing both awe and skepticism.
“Is the Uchiha clan leader really that strong?” inquired yet another, seeking confirmation.
“Are you kidding me? Thousands of ninjas at the border witnessed it with their own eyes; my son was one of them, and the whole Konoha is buzzing about it; you haven’t heard yet."explained a knowledgeable villager, emphasizing the widespread awareness and excitement rippling through the village.
Stepping out into the bustling street with her baby cradled in her arms, Mikoto absorbed the lively conversations swirling around her. A gentle smile adorned her lips, fueled by the gratification that accompanied every compliment directed at her husband.
Since the news of Fugaku's remarkable feat had spread, Mikoto couldn't help but notice the admiring glances from familiar faces during her routine trips to buy groceries. The warmth of recognition added a delightful touch to her daily life.
“Mikoto… Wow, your husband is amazing!! I heard that he used this ninjutsu to drive away thousands of ninjas; he’s so cool!!” exclaimed a red-haired woman, approaching Mikoto with cheerful admiration.
Turning to the blond-haired man beside her, she continued, "Minato, you have to do it too!! Show those ninjas from enemy countries how strong you are."
Kushina, fueled by enthusiasm, seemed ready to dive headlong into battle. Minato, with an awkward smile, scratched his head in response to Kushina's urging.
"Lord Fugaku is really strong, but Kushina, it war be serious!" He cautioned, injecting a note of gravity into the conversation.
“Ahem!!” Kushina cleared her throat, tapping Minato’s shoulder earnestly. “Listen to Minato; you have the strength to do it!”
Kushina's seriousness prompted an awkward smile from Minato. Mikoto, glancing at Kushina’s expression, smiled with a hint of bitterness.
She discerned that Kushina's concern wasn't for Minato's safety on the battlefield; she was well aware of the incredible speed of Minato’s Flying Thunder God technique. If he encountered an unbeatable adversary, escape was always within reach.
While contemplating her husband's abilities, Mikoto found herself musing about the flying jutsu.
When did he learn it? How had he kept it hidden from her? The questions lingered, and she resolved to seek answers when he returned from his duties on the battlefield.
------------
In the 44th year of the Konoha calendar, the Land of Earth initiated a relentless assault on the Land of Lightning.
Their invasion route spanned the grass country, culminating in a formidable attack on the land of the fire.
In response, Konoha swiftly mobilized its defense, dispatching a coalition comprising the Inuzuka, Hyuga, and Aburame clans and over 10,000 civilian ninja.
As the Iwa found themselves engaged in a two-front war, the realization dawned that breaking through either side proved insurmountable. Consequently, they scaled back the frequency of their attacks, leading to a prolonged stalemate.
In March of that year, the Land of Lightning retaliated with a large-scale offensive against Konoha.
To counter this threat, Konoha deployed Jiraiya, one of the legendary Sannin, as the jonin commander. Orochimaru, who had previously departed from the Suna camp, also joined the defense effort.
With more than 10,000 ninja on each side and the formidable presence of the two Sannin, the Kumogakure forces struggled to advance further. The intensity of the clashes gradually waned, resulting in a tense deadlock.
Orochimaru's decision to fight stemmed from the strategic significance of the Land of Iron, situated between the Land of Fire and the Land of Lightning. He had established a base there for his experiments.
Unfazed by Tsunade's departure, Orochimaru had anticipated such an outcome, understanding her unsuitability for certain responsibilities. For him, it was merely a calculated trial.
He knew Tsunade’s personality very well; she was not cut out for this kind of work anyway, and he only wanted to give it a try!
Concerns over Sunagakure's potential advance were tempered by suspicions of collusion with Danzo, prompting Fugaku to exhibit restraint and mercy.
Despite the clashes and injuries sustained, the unique styles of ninja combat among the three nations averted a catastrophic escalation.
In July of that tumultuous year, amidst the chaos of the conflict, eleven-year-old Obito and Rin achieved the rank of Chunin, solidifying their status as accomplished ninja. The curtains officially rose on Team Minato's journey in the midst of these challenging times.
