Chapter 166: danzo manipulate
"You're the one who's vile!" Danzo shouted, his exposed eye glaring at them in front of him. "This is a small sacrifice for the sake of Konoha!" he declared.
Nano sighed, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. "I know..."
"Nono, please..." pleaded the aunt.
Danzo sharply cut her off. "You're too soft-hearted. That's why you ended up like this!"
"How dare you!" the old man protested, but Danzo paid him no attention. He stared out the window and continued, "One of my men gave his life to obtain this intel. I need to take a child from here to replace him."
"I've already agreed to your demand!" Nano snapped, losing her patience.
"This is a separate matter," Danzo asserted, his tone unwavering. "We will arrange for the orphanage's future expenses, but right now, we need to trade the money for a personal!"
At the same time, Fugaku arrived and landed gracefully. He stretched his neck and exclaimed, “Urushi? What are you doing here? Where is your mother?"
Urushi, who had been spying on the conversation between his mother and Danzo, turned his head at the sound of someone calling him. He was shocked to see his uncle, exclaiming, “Uncle?”
Urushi's instinctive, loud exclamation revealed his presence.
Inside the room, the three of them had already noticed Urushi, but they pretended not to. They frowned upon hearing him talk to his "uncle"—how had someone entered without them noticing?
The voice of the intruder sounded vaguely familiar to them. However, Danzo didn’t bother with that; he glanced at Torune Aburame, who gave him a subtle nod, and sent a swarm of insects flying out of the window.
Nano was surprised to hear Fugaku’s voice. What was he doing here? She wasn’t worried about him, though. She knew Fugaku’s prowess and knew how strong he was.
Fugaku was startled by the insects flying towards him. "Aburame Clan.”
The bugs swarmed him, covering his entire body. “Attack me?” he was baffled.
Some bugs attempted to bite him, while others tried to drain his chakra. However, Fugaku wouldn’t let these insects have their way. He employed the peacock method, with flames swirling around his body. The insects fell to the ground as soon as they burned crisp, leaving only a few remaining on him.
Fugaku marveled, “There are insects that are fire-resistant? The Aburame clan is impressive.”
Without hesitation, he unleashed the Chidori-current flow jutsu, and not a single bug was left on him.
“Uncle…” Urushi stared at him, who looked unfazed, in awe.
Fugaku smiled, curious about who had attacked him with the Aburame clan. “Aburame clan, huh? Come on, let’s go inside and find out who did dare!”
----------
Upon hearing the voice, Danzo and Orochimaru immediately recognized who it was. Torune Aburame, sensing that his insects had been killed, frowned in response. Before he could react, a voice echoed through the door.
“The Aburame clan is getting more daring. Attacking me? Hey? Danzo, what are you doing here? Orochimaru?” Fugaku entered the room, finding the three individuals looking puzzled.
The war was almost over; he had come to find Nano to enjoy some romance, but he was shocked to see Danzo here. And who was that Orochimaru in a black dress next to him?
Fugaku was confused by Orochimaru’s outfit, which made him look like Danzo’s underling. However, Fugaku was unaware that Orochimaru was actually working for Danzo. Something else caught Fugaku's attention: Danzo’s hand was not wrapped in bandages.
Questioning whether he was just being paranoid, Danzo's face turned pale upon seeing Uchiha Fugaku. He still had nightmares about the last time Fugaku threatened him with the release of the jutsu scroll.
They had met Orochimaru at the Land of the Rivers camp before, and Danzo had returned to the Konoha border, patiently waiting for Orochimaru’s experiment to succeed.
Today, Orochimaru contacted Danzo with the results, not intending to show up at the orphanage in this manner. Driven by a sudden whim for an assistant, Orochimaru had set his sights on a child from the orphanage. Aware that Nano, a former spy of his, was running the orphanage, he arrived with a proposal.
He wanted Nano to work for him again, and he had a specific child in mind to serve as his assistant.
Upon seeing Uchiha Fugaku enter the hall, Orochimaru frowned.
Now exposed as Danzo’s follower, Orochimaru knew he couldn’t keep him around any longer.
The room fell into a heavy silence as everyone grappled with their own thoughts.
“I don’t know; it’s you, Clan Head Fugaku. I’m really sorry!” The Aburame clan broke the silence, offering an apology.
Aware that blaming Danzo wouldn't suffice, he took responsibility himself.
However, even in his apology, Aburame's tone was nonchalant, devoid of any apparent remorse.
Fugaku didn’t seem to mind, casting a meaningful glance at Orochimaru.
He then asked curiously, “It’s fine, but why did you come to the orphanage?”
As soon as he entered, Fugaku noticed the tense atmosphere. Based on his recollection, he seemed to guess what was happening but wanted to confirm it.
“Lord Fugaku, why do I have to report to you?” Danzo said it coldly to Fugaku, his face wearing a gloomy expression.
He had always harbored a deep-seated resentment toward the Uchiha without needing a specific reason. As a disciple of the Second Hokage, he inherited his master’s views on suppressing the Uchiha. Danzo's goal was to destroy the Uchiha, become the Hokage, and lead Konoha.
“Of course, Lord Danzo’s position in Konoha is higher than mine. I’m not qualified to question you,” Fugaku laughed loudly. His tone then changed, and his expression turned serious: “But why did you bring Orochimaru with you? What are you up to?”
At Fugaku’s question, the scene froze, and Uchiha Fugaku found himself facing three opponents. Despite this, his aura remained undiminished. His history with Danzo had never been smooth, and Orochimaru's sudden appearance raised suspicion.
Although there was no concrete evidence against Orochimaru, Fugaku couldn't tolerate having such a blatant spy near him.
“Lord Fugaku, you’re overthinking things. I didn’t expect you to be so paranoid. Do you have a grudge against the old man and Orochimaru?” Danzo's words made Uchiha Fugaku frown. The old man was adept at playing the victim.
Just as Fugaku was about to respond, a voice came from his side. “Uncle, they want mom to go to Iwagakure as a spy!”
