Hunter x Hunter : Germain Joins The Hunt

Chapter 25: Chapter 25 : Conjurer vs Transmuter!!

The candidates tossed around by Hisoka screamed, but he paid them no mind.

"However, I've got a pretty good grasp of the weapon you've conjured. A gun is a firearm, a cleaver is a bladed weapon—both have the same drawback, which is distance."

Hisoka flicked his "Bungee Gum," sending candidates, rocks, and mud flying in all directions toward Germain.

Germain's "Vitality" and "Endurance" were entirely different from what they were a month ago. His agility and strength had noticeably improved, and his stamina for prolonged fights had also increased.

He kept retreating, and Hisoka's "Meteor Hammer" missed its mark, repeatedly striking the ground.

"If range is the limitation for my Firearm and Cleaver..." Germain suddenly stopped and said, "then it's also the same for you."

One of the candidates Hisoka had latched onto with "Bungee Gum" suddenly snapped free, hurtling directly toward Germain.

Germain quickly dodged to the side, assessed the distance, and concluded, "It's about 10 meters. Beyond that range, your 'Bungee Gum' can't hold its grip."

"Bingo," Hisoka replied, snapping his fingers with zero embarrassment. "But that's going to be a problem. We can't keep this fight at a distance."

"I need to get my Hunter's License," Germain stated firmly. "Not next year, not the year after. It's going to be this year."

Hisoka's smirk was playful, hinting that his trick had worked. "Well, then I'll do my best to stop you. You'll have to earn my approval before you can move on to the next test."

After a moment of tense silence, both lunged toward each other, closing the gap with swift movements.

"Looks like we're 'partners' after all!" Hisoka exclaimed, launching his "Bungee Gum" towards Germain with a dramatic Spider-Man-like gesture.

Germain swiftly sidestepped, and with a click, his Cleaver's blade elongated, doubling in length as its serrated teeth swung toward Hisoka.

Hisoka, just as agile, dodged by tilting his head back, barely avoiding the blade. "I figured this weapon might have some tricks," he said, grinning.

"Oh, really?" Germain replied, using the opening to cover his Firearm with his hunter's robe. He aimed at Hisoka and fired.

The shot ripped through his robe, and the spray of bullets hit the ground near Hisoka, who was still very close.

Hisoka's eyes narrowed, and he quickly flexed his fingers. Using his "Bungee Gum," he flipped a chunk of earth, creating a makeshift barrier.

"Predicted it," he said, smirking from behind the earthen shield.

The bullets thudded into the soil, scattering dirt but missing Hisoka.

Germain rolled to the side, only to find himself face-to-face with Hisoka, who had also dodged in that direction.

They locked eyes, but neither retreated. Instead, they moved even closer.

"I think I've figured out your weapon's firing range and your Cleaver's reach after it extends," Hisoka said with a grin. "I've also guessed where you might strike."

Germain glanced down at his Cleaver. To his surprise, three "Bungee Gum" strands were attached to it.

"I stuck them on when you extended the blade," Hisoka explained casually, his gaze fixed on the Cleaver, calculating the Firearm's potential firing arc.

Germain, unfazed, dissolved the conjured items, easily freeing himself from the "Bungee Gum" tangles.

"Annoying..." Hisoka muttered, noticing Germain's quick recovery. Yet, instead of retreating, he lunged toward Germain, closing the distance rapidly. "This is why I don't favor Conjurers."

Hisoka deftly drew out a stack of playing cards, his fingertips twitching as he poured his aura into them. Instantly, they became razor-sharp projectiles, slicing through the air towards Germain, who had little room to dodge.

Since the Enhancement type is closely related to the Transmutation type, Hisoka could sometimes tap into enhancement type Nen to boost his attacks.

However, Germain reacted quickly, raising his right hand to summon a transformed Cleaver. It was a precise motion that blocked most of the playing cards with a loud clang.

Still, two of the playing cards managed to pierce Germain's left arm, and there was no doubt that they had "Bungee Gum" attached to them.

Hisoka grinned wildly at him.

"Ah, ah, ah, it seems like you won't be able to move your left arm freely for a while, which means you can't shoot that firearm at me... I can't wait to see what you do next... Huh?"

Suddenly, the Cleaver in Germain's right hand vanished, replaced by a strange-looking metal canister with a nozzle aimed directly at Hisoka.

The loud roar of the Flamethrower drowned out any other sound, and a torrent of flames erupted toward Hisoka, engulfing him in an instant.

Caught in the fiery blaze, Hisoka quickly leaped backward, rolling without hesitation to smother the flames. After several frantic rolls, he finally managed to extinguish the fire.

When he stood up, his clothes had been completely burned away, leaving him stark naked. His body was covered in burn marks, and a significant portion of his long red hair was singed. The powder on his face had melted, leaving a smeared mess.

Hisoka glared at the flamethrower in Germain's right hand, then calmly said, "I get it now. Your conjured weapons aren't limited to just your left and right hands, and you have more than just two weapons at your disposal. I should have expected that..."

Germain put away his flamethrower, then pulled out two playing cards from his pocket and tossed them aside. Blood trickled down his arms, dripping onto the grass below.

"Instead of the Conjuration type, you should favor the Specialist type, like Chrollo," Hisoka observed. "Given the effect you've achieved, it's not something Conjurer would usually accomplish."

"If my guess is correct, Firearm, Cleaver, and Flamethrowers aren't your real conjured weapons. Your true conjured weapon is hidden within you, and you use it to control all these weapons."

Despite Hisoka's serious tone, the fact that he was standing there almost naked made it hard to take him entirely seriously.

"Could be," Germain replied with a sly smile and a noncommittal shrug.

Hisoka paused, then chuckled. "So, you're not going to confirm whether I'm right or not? Fine, I'll give you a 'pass.' I won't bother you in the next exam."

"Huh?" Germain tilted his head, raising an eyebrow. "You can't bother me anymore, right? First, you attacked the examiner, so you're likely to be disqualified. And second, given your current... state of dress, do you really plan to keep fighting me like this?"

Hisoka hesitated for a moment, then smirked. Even with his peculiar personality, Germain's point was hard to argue with.

Suddenly, laughter echoed from the woods. Both Germain and Hisoka turned toward the sound, surprised that someone had gotten so close without them noticing.

Emerging from the trees were an old man and a man with a bean head, the same person who had handed out the number plates earlier.
