Chapter 39 – Saturday 03.
[Chapter Size: 2300 Words.]
Third Person POV
Hogwarts.
...
...
Hagrid continued walking through the forest with the bulldog illuminating the area with his lantern, while wondering what that thing was a while ago that seemed to be a scream of fury from a creature in the distance... causing him to worry about Horn.
Horn was an animal that he had acquired some time ago, from an acquaintance found on one of the coasts of the Scandinavian countries north of England. Its parents were hunted, as the skin of a Graphorn is extremely expensive in the market, due to its hardness, so much so that it took dozens of dark wizards to take down two Graphorns, which were Horn's parents, while the cub survived due to being in a hidden place and that became inaccessible with the fight, the acquaintance of Hagrid found him and sent him to England hoping that Hogwarts would have a better solution for the animal.
Hagrid was very excited about this magical animal, even trying to keep its guard while hiding it at the beginning of the Black Forest so no one would see it, what he did not imagine was that the animal would leave its place, which was a region protected by centaurs and was behind him wondering where he should go, with a worried countenance.
He walked until some centaurs approached him. "Hagrid! What are you doing here?" one of them immediately asked, with a tone of urgency.
"I'm after Horn... He left the nest and we're after his scent..." Hagrid said, although he was quite surprised by how the centaur spoke to him, they were dressed for a fight as well. "Has something happened?" He asked at the end.
"That your animal? Was it him that caused this... If so, he must already be dead..." The centaur murmured thoughtfully and Hagrid was at a loss for words to what he heard.
The centaur sighed before continuing. "Come with me, something is happening in the forest." He spoke and began to walk, Hagrid glanced at his dog a moment before they followed him into the fog of the forest.
When they emerged, Hagrid was surprised to see a giant line with over 200 centaurs preparing for a fight as they looked toward the forest.
"What's going on here?!" Hagrid immediately asked, surprised by it.
"Something irritated the witch of the forest... there are at least 1000 Acromantulas running through the forest, we're preparing so they don't come into this territory..." The centaur said.
"1000 Acromantulas?!" Hagrid couldn't have been more surprised by that. Wondering what was happening.
"Wait! Horn! I have to rescue him!" Hagrid immediately shouted, remembering that the scent led to that territory!
"You can't Hagrid, do you think you can handle even one Acromantula?" The centaur mocked, preventing the man from making a mistake while standing in his way.
"But Horn is in danger!!!" Hagrid immediately shouted.
"Forget that your animal, he must be dead now, we just have to protect this area, if you go in there, you will die too." The centaur warned him severely.
"..." Hagrid couldn't help but stop feeling the ground at that moment, his world was collapsing with the idea that Horn was dead right now. The bulldog beside cried as tears came out of its eyes. "Why... why did this happen? Horn..." Bitterness and regret filled Hagrid's heart as he stared lifelessly ahead where hundreds of centaurs shouted orders and waited for the spiders to come to their territory while the fog of the forest prevented a deeper view from there.
Meanwhile, the centaurs were conversing among themselves lined up with their bows pointed toward the forest, waiting for any sign of the enemy, but only the fog and silence filled their front...
"Strange... they don't seem to be coming this way..." one of the centaurs commented.
"They are after something, but they went to the other areas of the Black Forest..." another frowned with his own conclusion.
"They are not going there, are they?" someone suggested...
"Could the witch have come into conflict with that thing? Did she invade his territory?" a fifth centaur spoke.
"He doesn't care about the witch... either he thought of attacking her finally or the witch that wants war..."
"Don't be foolish with the witch wanting war, you know she fears him and not even the Acromantulas step on his territory for fear of him..."
"This is quite troublesome, we don't even know what exactly is happening on that side..."
As the centaurs continued their conversation, in the forest ahead, many, many kilometers from the centaurs... The forest still maintained its sinister aspect, with small flashes of light from the midday sun at its highest point. However, these small rays, which emerged between the giant trees, were just a faint light amidst the darkness of the forest, which always looked as if it were never day.
As the fog rose from the dark ground upwards, a shadow appeared: a boy of about 17 or 18 years old running through the area, dodging rocks and branches as he pressed on. He was holding an animal in his arms, keeping up the pace and running through the forest non-stop.
His goal: to escape from the hundreds of giant spiders that had been following him the entire time. Meanwhile, meters behind, Acromantulas began to cover the entire place—trees, rocks, hills; everything was filled with spiders.
Snape continued running, the animal in his lap making some frightened sounds, but Snape ignored them as he kept running through the forest, trying to elude his pursuers who had him as their target the whole time.
He continued running until he came across a small stream in front of him, used as his line to exit the forest, he decided to follow it, while the spiders continued to pursue him.
"Come on, fast, faster!" he shouted to himself, knowing that he was still competing with a multi-legged animal, but still maintaining a speed that allowed him to keep a distance due to his status in the system.
As he followed the stream that continued to grow and become more voluminous as they descended in pursuit, one of the spiders tried to attack him as he jumped and Snape supported himself on a tree and dodged the attack. Others tried to throw their webs as he dodged in a zigzag. He then found a deeper terrain and quickly went there, going down while noticing that the wider stream was beginning to become a river.
Meanwhile, the spiders behind him scrambled to descend that terrain on top of each other, forming even a wave of shrill screams as they didn't care and hit each other as long as they could follow Snape with his animal.
Snape passed by the side of the river while the wave of spiders came right behind. They continued trying to reach him while he used his free arm with his wand, beginning to shoot fire spells to get those things off his back.
The first ones quickly burned, tangling up with each other as the fire began to spread through the first ones, with cries of lament, pain, and anger.
He continued with this and at one moment something changed. "What is this atmosphere?!" Snape continued with a furrowed brow, he entered an area of the forest different from anything he had ever seen in this place, this place was even more malevolent, with the presence of death filling the entire atmosphere.
The spiders entered this territory with him, but soon Snape noticed that they were scared and it was not of him, as they slowed down their legs... giving him a certain advantage over them, but then, an explosive sound came from the forest in front of him, a sound so powerful that it made the trees tremble and the spiders quickly began to stop immediately.
"They're scared...?!" Snape, although surprised by whatever had made that sound, the spiders seemed terrified, the sound clearly questioned why they were there and afraid of being exterminated, they began to flee, leaving their prey behind.
Snape finally stopped, seeing that they were in complete silence at that moment, looking at the spiders returning to their area in the distance, while wondering what was happening and his gaze returned to the young Graphorn.
The animal was trembling in his arms looking as frightened as the spiders... "What do you think this thing is?" Snape couldn't help but murmur, he certainly knew he had entered an even more dangerous territory and it only took a roar to scare away 1000 Acromantulas.
The environment seemed dry, but Snape thought here he would have more chance than facing 1000 giant spiders, he just had to avoid whatever had made that roar before...
He continued walking and noticed something as he followed the river... "There's nothing alive in this area..." He murmured as the animal in his arms trembled and he continued following the stream, hoping to find a way out of the forest.
He continued for a while as a bad feeling began to emerge, that he was being watched in that forest.
That thing was watching me, Snape concluded, and stroked the animal, the enemy is close but I will keep it alive I promise, Snape thought as he continued walking, trying to observe why it was looking in the middle of that desolate place.
He also noticed a large number of bones scattered all over the place. The answer to nothing being alive there was because they were all dead, at least those that couldn't escape. While eyes in the darkness kept him there the entire time, moving like a shadow among the forest watching the student. Snape felt movement and looked to the side, but there was nothing there with his eyes.
He was curious, he didn't know what it was, as there was also nothing in anything he had read about whatever it was. It was a moment, seeming like the creature no longer wanted to wait and started to move, a sound came up behind Snape. Snape immediately stopped at this moment, his gaze turned to the side, but there was nothing in the area behind him, limiting the vision of his eyes, but his feelings said otherwise.
There was something there, and suddenly, a black fog appeared and began to shape into a mix of humanoid and beastly form.
The thing had not yet appeared to Snape, as it was just fog, but he saw the movement and felt claws coming in his direction and, with quick movement, he dodged as the ground was scratched by giant cuts.
The animal was more frightened than ever in his arms. Snape held it tight so it wouldn't do anything foolish and began to run again with all his speed, since, unlike the giant spiders, this monster made his senses scream for him to get away from there as quickly as possible. It was something that even he could not handle in a battle. He started to run and the creature, still enveloped in fog, began to chase him at an even greater speed than Snape.
Snape began to dodge the attacks of his pursuer, dodging and passing inches from them, while those claws continued cutting trees, rocks, everything along the way. That creature seemed unbeatable, until he finally saw a light at the end of the forest as he continued running.
He saw that, beyond the light, there was a view of a valley below, which meant that the river was nearing a waterfall, as the water fell downward, right in front. The creature pursued him even more now that he was reaching the end of his territory in the forbidden forest and wanted to kill its prey as soon as possible.
Snape kept running, until he was scratched by one of the attacks while the creature put more pressure on him, but even with his arm bleeding, he didn't stop, continued at the same pace. As he approached the end of the forest, right in front of the waterfall, he jumped off the cliff as a claw tried to grab him, passing inches from him, but managing to escape in the end.
Snape began to fall at this moment while a scream of fury arose behind him, it seemed that the creature did not want to follow him there as he fell more than 200 meters. The animal cried in his arm, scared. Snape, seeing that this could damage it as soon as it hit the water below him, held it to his chest and used his own back for the impact in the water, so he could protect the cub. Seconds later, he hit the water, creating a large slap sound, since his back was his point of impact.
As soon as they hit the water, sinking a few meters before coming back to the surface, the sound of the waterfall immediately came as they reached the edge of the water, Snape sighed taking in some oxygen before moving in the water with the animal still clinging to him.
He swam to the shore and released the cub as it finally walked up to the bank. As he stood up and walked, the animal began to shake all over to remove the water.
Snape took out his wand and used a spell to dry. The animal looked and he looked at the animal, "That was quite strange..." He couldn't help commenting and looked at his bleeding arm. "Let's take care of this first and then get out of here soon after." He announced and began to take some things out of his bag, which had been kept on his shoulder the whole time.
