Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Innate Magic
At the Edge of the Forbidden Forest.
"Innate magic is a very, very special kind of magic."
Taylor looked at Luke, holding a silencing ball, and spoke seriously.
"Innate magic is basically developed based on each individual's unique gift. And the development process is highly personalized because it's a wizard's greatest Ace. Unless it's someone you absolutely trust, you must never reveal it to anyone."
"Moreover, some of them cannot be inherited, so many forms of Innate magic tend to be short-lived."
"For families with a stable inheritance of Innate magic, each person's magic differs due to their individual mastery of their talent, as well as varying auxiliary conditions. And families like that are extremely rare, spread across different countries, and often, their magic don't pose significant threats."
Seeing Luke's thoughtful expression, Taylor hesitated, then said, "In my family, it only manifests in women. My mother, my grandmother, me, and if I have a daughter, she'll have it too."
"The basic principle of manifestation is..."
"Stop." Luke quickly interrupted Taylor, looking helpless. "You don't need to explain the specifics."
He saw Taylor's slightly confused expression and asked, "Does your ability require the talent of Legilimency?"
Taylor nodded. "Yes, but not just that. It also requires a special sensitivity to sound and talent in music. Bloodline might also be a factor, though from what I know, no one outside of my family has mastered this magic."
"Musical magic?" Luke asked, surprised.
"Sort of, but not entirely. Some simple notes can serve as a magical medium but it's not like every word can carry magic."
Taylor turned, humming a short melody toward a rock within the silencing area, and the rock instantly shattered.
Luke watched her movements, his brow furrowing deeply.
"Your grandmother used the same magic..."
"Stronger, capable of injuring people, but unless someone is much weaker, it's rarely lethal. Against a stronger wizard, it's even less effective, only slowing them down slightly, and only if you choose the right music."
Taylor said, frustrated.
Luke took a breath and nodded, "The power is relatively weak, with little chance of attacking beyond your level. The buildup is too long..."
"How about the attack range?"
Luke asked again.
"Large, but... you know."
Taylor was even more frustrated.
Luke understood. Wars between wizards tended to involve fewer people and weren't large-scale, so mass destruction wasn't a concern.
In that case, this ability would be most useful against Muggles. If music broadcasted through Radios and TVs still carried destructive power, it could lead to a massacre.
Luke's lips twitched, "Did Grindelwald and He-who-must-not-be-named both try to find you?"
Outside of school, he could call him Voldemort, even at school he dared, but when discussing secrets, caution was best.
"According to my grandmother, Grindelwald invited us, but we refused and quickly relocated. They never found our final address."
"As for him... a month before his downfall, he killed my parents. My grandmother fled with me again."
As Taylor spoke, her voice filled with hatred.
Luke was silent for a moment, then patted her head, making her already messy hair even messier.
"If you don't like it, then stop thinking about it. The past is the past, and it won't happen again. I promise."
Luke's last three words were firm and resolute. It was one of his core beliefs.
Taylor took a deep breath, feeling much calmer under Luke's hand.
She looked at him curiously and asked, "Why did you suddenly ask about this? I tried to tell you earlier, and you said you didn't want to know."
Luke's expression became a bit complicated as he looked at her.
"What's wrong?" Taylor noticed his gaze and asked, puzzled.
"Don't you think your emotions calmed down a bit too quickly?"
Luke asked.
"Emotions?" Taylor repeated the word, then froze for a moment. The anger and even hatred she felt just moments ago—how had they disappeared so suddenly?
"You…"
Taylor looked at Luke in shock.
Then, she felt an inexplicable joy welling up from deep inside her, making her want to laugh out loud.
Luke stopped fiddling with his wand in his sleeve.
"That's why I asked about your Innate magic. I seem to have awakened a new ability out of nowhere."
"You can… control other people's emotions?"
Taylor asked in surprise.
"Not quite full control yet. I can only amplify an emotion that already exists to some extent," Luke explained. "So far, I haven't noticed any side effects. I tested it on Ron's rat before using it on myself."
"That's dangerous!"
Taylor scolded him, "Experimenting on yourself is very dangerous! And just because it worked on a rat doesn't mean it'll work the same way on a wizard!"
Luke wanted to say that Ron's rat might not be so different from a wizard, but he held his tongue to avoid unintentionally revealing a secret.
"Anyway… that's my talent. But I don't have any ideas on how to develop it further"
Luke quickly interrupted Taylor before she could scold him more.
Taylor held back her words, frowning. "Then I'll share some ideas for developing your magic. It might not be directly applicable, but it could give you some inspiration."
After a moment of thought, she tentatively asked, "How about I do a divination for you? It might not be accurate, but I have learned it!"
Luke blinked, quickly realizing her grandmother was a Seer, so it wasn't surprising that Taylor knew some divination.
He shook his head again. "No need. I think I know who to ask."
"Who?"
"One is who told me, I had a talent and the other is someone who's been avoiding me."
Of course, Luke didn't tell Taylor about another clue in his mind.
The system's task had also given him some inspiration.
"The one avoiding you is Peeves, right? Who's the other person?"
Taylor quickly figured out who Luke was referring to.
"It's the Sorting Hat," Luke said. "It's Gryffindor's hat, imbued with the thoughts of the four founders, which is why it's so adept at sorting students."
"The Sorting Hat is in the headmaster's office. If Peeves is avoiding you, will you need to talk to Dumbledore?"
Taylor asked, hesitating.
"No need." Luke squinted. "I'd rather deal with Peeves than Dumbledore."
"So how will you find Peeves?"
Luke smiled, "I have my ways"
