Chapter 35: Dragon Eye of the Beholder (Part 4)
I closed up the rest of the storage rooms in the Academy when Kala and I returned to the island. Her and I were the only ones that ever really used this place anymore. Not many of the villagers needed to utilize it either since most of them know how to control their dragons. Plus most of them rarely flew either.
"Do you think this will get torn down soon? It's rarely used anymore." Kala asked as she grasped my hand.
"Hard to say. I'm sure once it stops being used it will either be turned into something useful or be taken down. Honestly just depends at this point." I replied, exhaustion clear in my voice.
"Hiccup, why are we still living here..? It's clear that neither of us belong here even after all we've done for this village.. Let's just find somewhere else..we're old enough to go off on our own now.." She reasoned sadly.
And she was right. Both of us turned eighteen just a couple months ago and there was no reason for us to stay in Berk. No matter what we did for this village, we would never truly belong among the Vikings. So why haven't we left? What was holding us here?
"We will. We can leave in the morning. Since everyone is doing their own thing now and there's no more dragons to add to the book we can do what we want. Let's travel the world." I decided with a smile and Kala smiled back with a beautiful shimmer in her eyes.
"You mean it?" She asked hopefully.
I nodded, smiling wider and she lit up like the Northern Lights. Kala then pulled me into a gentle kiss purring joyously and I happily kissed back.
Once we separated, we made our way to the hut to turn in for the night. Our minds set on packing up our things and heading off on our own the following morning.
As we entered the hut, I noticed Stoick was stocking the hearth. He turned to us as the door closed behind me.
"There you two are. Find anything on your search?" He asked.
Both of us shook our heads as Kala removed her cloak and hung it in its usual spot by the stairs.
"No. Don't think there's any new species that will come through the area anytime soon." I explained, not really feeling like talking with him.
"That's a shame. Well I'm sure you and the others will find other things to do together." Stoick stated happily.
"The others already found what they want to do for the rest of their lives, Stoick. It's just been Hiccup and I doing the searches lately." Kala replied as she made her way up the stairs, clearly ready to get some sleep.
"Ah, that so? Well have you two decided what you want to-" Stoick started, but was cut off as Ruffnut and Tuffnut came into the hut with Trader Johann draped across their shoulders. "Johann! What happened to you?"
"Ooh…Dagur!" Johann was able to get out, seeming to still be pretty shaken up.
"What about Dagur?" I asked as Kala came back down the stairs to listen in.
"He's out! He's more Berserk than ever! And from the way he was talking, Master Hiccup. You and Mistress Kala are top on his revenge list!" He exclaimed then passed out.

The next morning, Hiccup and I were able to get the others to meet up with us in the Academy to talk over what to do. We were all gathered around a table with a map of the Archipelago resting atop it as we planned.
"All we got from Johann before he passed out was this, Dagur escaped from Outcast Island by commandeering his ships." Hiccup explained then pointed at the map in the area Johann encountered Dagur. "He threw Johann overboard about here."
"Oh, so what you're saying is Dagur could be anywhere by now." Snotlout said with his arms crossed, clearly irritated.
"Well, technically, yes." I said messing with a strand of my hair.
"Oh, great. Great, great, great. So that just leaves…I don't know, let me think about this…the entire ocean to search! No, thank you!" Snotlout retorted.
"Master Hiccup." We heard and turned toward the source.
Johann had entered the Academy looking a bit better than he did the night before. He still looked considerably worse for wear, but that was to be expected after the fiasco he went through because of Dagur.
"Johann, you're awake." Hiccup said calmly.
"And feeling much better, thank you for asking. More importantly, I have more than a strong suspicion of where our nefarious foe may be heading." Johann stated with a confident air about him.
"Outside the Archipelago?" I asked, rather curious about the trader's thoughts on the matter.
"No! Just inside the fog bank on our outer group of islands." He replied, his usual mystical speech coming back to him.
"We've never been out that far." Hiccup inquired as he looked down at the map trying to pinpoint the exact location Johann had mentioned.
"When Dagur commandeered my precious ship, he also came into possession of a very important map…one that leads to a graveyard of ships hidden in that fog bank."
"Wow! That's the first place I'd go." Snotlout commented, genuine excitement and curiosity in his voice and clear from his facial features and body language.
"If I may be allowed to finish?" Johann asked, quite irritated at Snotlout's interruption.
"Johann, last time we allowed you to finish, we ended up on Breakneck Bog. So, no… No finishing." Snotlout stated with his arms crossed, making it known that he really wanted to just see the ship graveyard.
"Enough! What's so special about the graveyard and why would he go there?" Hiccup asked.
I could tell he was annoyed that we needed to even bring the others into this mess or even deal with it ourselves. It ruined our plans to finally escape this place and live the life we've been wanting for almost four years now.
I looked down at the rock floor of the Academy with sadness prominent in my eyes as I continued to mess with a strand of my midnight locks.
Did the gods really hate Hiccup and I this much? What did either of us do? Why have they decided to make our lives so difficult for us? It made no sense.
I sighed quietly and looked up once more as I heard Johann speak.
"Well, you see-"
"The short version, please." I commented, not really in the mood for another one of Johann's long tales.
"It's where I store all my treasures and wares." He answered a bit exasperated.
Trader Johann was the type of person that always loved telling the most extravagant tales and exaggerating every detail possible. It's a wonder how people are able to endear it and actually listen to them whenever he is docked at his usual stops.
"Wow, concise, to the point. Who knew he had it in him?" Tuffnut asked amusingly.
"Which reminds me of the first time I was labeled as "concise"! He was a young man, very ugly, I actually-" Johann began, but Hiccup cut him off irritably.
"Johann!"
"Yes?" The trader in question asked innocently.
"Focus. Is there anything else?" Hiccup asked, ready to just get this whole debacle over and done with.
"As a matter of fact, there is one ship you must avoid at all cost. It's called…The Reaper . Riddled with booby traps from stem to stern. Barely made it out with my life the only time I dared venture aboard. Oh, wow!" Johann gushed out.
I rolled my eyes then looked at Hiccup, a silent question in my eyes. He nodded in confirmation.
"Okay, Kala and I will head out and track Dagur down. Unless, of course, any of you can make time out of your busy schedules to capture a dangerous maniac?" Hiccup inquired as the both of us looked at our friends. Well. Friends and Astrid.
The five of them looked at one another then nodded at us with determined looks.

Once everyone prepared to leave, Hiccup secured himself to my back then all of us took to the skies to find Dagur.
During the trek I could feel Hiccup relax a bit as he usually does whenever we fly.
"This is pretty great, huh love? Seems like forever since we all flew as a group. Let's see how rusty they are." Hiccup said, a bit of a teasing tone behind his words. "V Formation!" He instructed.
As soon as the command left his lips, the others steered their respective dragons into the proper positions. Hiccup looked behind us and smiled.
"Not bad. Diamond Formation!" He ordered once more, wanting to test out how much the others truly remembered.
Just like with the first formation, the other riders steered their dragons into the proper positions. I looked at my dragon friends and smiled my signature gummy smile, earning smiles back from them. Us dragons were just happy to fly together as a group again.
"How rusty does this guy think we are?" Tuffnut asked, not seeming to realize that they steered Barf and Belch too close to Meatlug.
"Uh…guys? A little tight on the diamond, are we?" Fishlegs asked, trying to get the twins to notice their error.
Hiccup and I laughed as we noticed.
"Just like old times." Hiccup reminisced.
"Five thousand pounds of flaming muscle coming through!" Snotlout shouted as he and Hookfang sped past the rest of us.
I shook my head in amusement as the Nightmare and Jorgenson went past.
"Ever classic." Hiccup added, amusement and happiness flowing out with his words.
