Chapter 16.
Home Alone was getting bigger and bigger. There'd be more than 30 calls per day that Renner films get, asking about appointments to talk with the brains behind the black horse that took the box office by storm.
Media and reporters kept continuously ringing the phones of Renner Studios, due to this many fans of movies had their focus shifted to Renners.
"Hello, Is this The Renner's?"
"Do you want an interview?" Mason asked back.
"Yes, please! Can I get a date-"
"The queue is long, sorry."
Mason said and hung up immediately. Everyone including Mason's assistant and Ian laughed hearing that. Different types of calls came from time to time. One even threatened to give them the interview first before other media channels.
They were delaying interviews and reveals because Ian knew big stuff is yet to come.
"When will we even give these interviews? I mean, there are many reporters who are interested in who wrote the movie and your background." Mason said.
"Hmm… Wait for some more time, uncle."
"Won't be able to wait for long," Mason said.
Meanwhile, Mason was busy finding more screens to cast the movie. Movies from major studios were given more screens than small studios. Home Alone got just 700 screens, but after all the craze and trends Home Alone successfully got, almost 500 more theatre screens were given.
On the other hand, regardless of the interviews… Ian and the actors got plenty of spotlight from the media. Their information was already with them. It was a very new experience for Ian to find paparazzi outside his home.
Waking up, dreaming big about movies, then going to see so many cameras and flashlights outside his house, was new to him. He barely got out of it and knew that the actors were facing similar situations.
Ever since the media got to know about the actors, they'd been going crazy where they live too.
After two-three days of this new form of torture, Ian accepted to be on the Sunday Night Show which was hosted by J.M. Fawk. He was the host of a popular TV show, on a very famous channel, which made him well-known for his funny questions. And especially, for the fact, he asks his guests, what the media and the general public want to know.
Ian had hidden intentions as to why he needed to attend the show. As he was getting a lot of feedback and comments, the majority of the people assumed that he won't face any media conference because they think it was a one-time thing and the director is inexperienced and is afraid. He so badly wanted to prove them all wrong.
Also, facing the media would do so much good for them, and for the name of the studio. Plus the show is really popular among the fans of movies, so Ian felt like this was an opportunity for a public appearance.
A day after he got the invitation, he accepted it. A whole conversation went on between Ian and the pre-interviewer.
"Hello, good morning, sir. Heard you accepted the interview,"
"Good morning, and yeah I did."
"I'm Klein Mark. I've been assigned to do the pre-interview for the show. Do you have time to talk about this a bit?"
"Yeah, continue,"
"So, we do this pre-interview on Thursday to discuss the stories, anecdotes, current events, and other stuff that you might think about sharing."
"Oh, alright. I'll be there?"
"Yes, okay. I'll email the rest of the details. Don't worry it's nothing big, just a small interview. Like, when you see these shows on television, which people assume are live but the reality is nothing is live. Every part is scripted. I'm explaining this to you because you're new, but don't worry, we'll go through it one by one and…"
Ian who knew these kept listening to him agreeing occasionally. It was obvious the field wasn't very welcoming for new directors. But he wished at least the host would be nice.
Listening to this conversation from the other end of the studio, Mason had questions. He asked why he accepted just this, but not any other media interviews, then Ian explained the reason.
"This show… Basically covers a major population, which will answer many of their questions. We'll just have to go and see. No big deal, uncle" Ian shrugged.
-
After he faced the pre-interview he got to know many ideas, thoughts, and rumors about him that have been whispering all over the fandom. Some even assumed that he slept with Adam's mother, Michelle to make it through, although it was nonsensical because it was his script and he had no reason to sleep with the Male lead's mother.
After every question, it was tiring for him to answer the next question. But at last, it became interesting because the producers were keen to know about his next projects.
It was Sunday, and he got ready in a Navy Blue suit which made him look decent.
"Are you ready? Follow me," The producer came to the dressing room and asked.
They got into the show, onstage right after a few seconds. The welcome was just as they had planned, and even the audience in front of him seemed friendly. He grew comfortable and confident with each passing second.
"First time on T.V. huh?" Fawk commented while a laugh echoed.
After a few minutes of comfortable questions on Renner's Studio and his background, it became a bit heavy. Different types of serious questions based on the industry and the future were asked very lightly. But, Ian had answers for all of them.
"Home Alone… Was it a fluke? Did you expect this kind of reaction?"
Ian chuckled in response, "It wasn't a fluke. The view of me is quite new to all of you, but the movie and the success were well planned. Luck, too, does matter a little bit, to be honest."
"Will you do more movies?"
"I do have plans,"
"Will you be sticking to just 'Christmas movies'?"
"Of course not. Where's the fun in that?" The crowd laughed in response.
Few questions about Adam were asked too.
"How did Adam, Michelle, our well-known actress's kid, join this? Have you guys known them before?"
"My uncle knew Michelle, that is how he joined. After auditioning, I realized he was perfect for the role. He was such a good actor, smart for kids of his age, and did the role perfectly."
"How was he, during the set and off the set?"
"Adam… is surprisingly decent. He gave us so much support,"
"Aren't we talking about such a good kid," Fawk laughed, making everyone laugh. Ian, too, laughed in return because he couldn't act crazy to prove his point. Instead, he remained silent.
"And… have you considered what you're going to do next?"
-
It has been two days since the show. Different types of views, ideas, and feedback have been shown in public media. Many of them went far enough to dig into his past, showing how much of a waste of money he was and criticizing his history in a very bad way.
The other part of the fans were busy explaining how this was just a one-time wonder and guessing his next moves. Much to everyone's surprise, social media has been going crazy due to his interview. So many younger girls swooned over the new director, wishing him the best of luck in his career and saying that they were looking forward to his next movie.
-
On the other hand, Box office numbers went higher and higher during the End of December. The crowd gathered for Home Alone was insanely high.
The box office numbers during the end of the month made the media go crazy all over again. 150 million dollars for this new director's movie was unbelievably a wonder to everyone.
Once again, the majority called it a one-time wonder because the director showed up in the industry out of nowhere. They also thought after this, Ian won't be releasing such good movies because it was common for everyone to know being inexperienced means so many failed projects.
Channel Marine was famous for bringing out entertainment news related to the Hollywood box office.
"The box office numbers for 'Home Alone' hit its peak yesterday, at 150 million dollars which is a huge number for a new director. This was the first in a long time to hit the top of the box office by a new director who we never saw before. But, Ian Renner who directed Home Alone said that this success was well planned throughout the movie. What about you? Do you think he was being honest? Either way, the entire movie fans are looking at Renner's Studio very closely for its next movie, or big hit? Who knows? Stay with us, Marine, for the hottest news of the latest box office movies!"
Ian switched the screen off with a smile knowing his plans were an entire success.
"What are we going to do next?" Mason, who was watching that girl's chatter, asked with great curiosity.
"Hmm… Something bigger than this"
"What exactly?" Mason asked in return.
"You will see when I complete the script," Ian said with a smile.
