Chapter 7
Tang Yang ordered Lv Ya to grab medicine, then comforted Brother Huo's grandma for a few more sentences before leaving.
His grandma stayed by his side the whole time. When it got dark, she started getting scared.
Lv Ya also came over to accompany her. The two didn't speak, just held their breath watching Brother Huo, afraid he wouldn't be able to take another breath.
But Brother Huo remained fast asleep until nearly midnight, when he finally woke up and opened one eye to look at his grandma, "Grandma, I'm hungry!"
His grandma was so happy she nearly jumped up. Ever since he was severely injured, he hadn't been able to eat anything, not even the goat's milk she had worked hard to get for him.
She reached out and felt his forehead, which wasn't nearly as hot as before.
"The doctor's medicine is working, it's working!" his grandma exclaimed excitedly to Lv Ya.
"Yes, the doctor's medicine is working!" Lv Ya was also very happy.
The next day, Doctor Li was invited back to the Prince's manor.
Upon hearing the child wasn't dead yet, Doctor Li also felt it was miraculous. "This kid really has a strong life force. He was nearly gone before."
His grandma knelt down and kowtowed, "Doctor, please prescribe another course of medicine to save my grandson." Doctor Li was stunned for a moment. The medicine he had prescribed yesterday could not cure the injury at all, it was merely for pain relief and sedation, and didn't do much for the actual injury.
However, perhaps it was just blind luck.
He had checked Brother Huo's pulse, which did seem slightly better than yesterday, and his body didn't feel as hot either.
So he wrote another prescription, "Send a maid to come back with me to grab the medicine. He'll need to take this continuously for two days, as well as medicine powder to apply on the wounds. If he improves, keep coming to get more medicine."
"Thank you, Doctor!"
"Who's paying my diagnosis fee and medicine cost?" Doctor Li asked.
Yesterday's fee was paid by Tang Yang, but today's would have to be paid by his grandma.
Seeing the doctor hold up his hand, his grandma tentatively asked, "Fifty coins?"
"Five taels!" Doctor Li said unhappily.
He wasn't some quack doctor, he didn't prescribe cheap medicines costing a few coins.
His grandma's eyes nearly popped out.
Five taels of silver? That was half a year's wages for her.
And this was only the second dose of medicine.
But her grandson's life was naturally more precious than silver, so she gritted her teeth and took out five taels to give the doctor.
Lv Ya accompanied Doctor Li to grab the medicine. When she returned and saw his grandma in tears, she comforted her, "Grandma, don't be upset. Brother Huo will definitely recover."
His grandma said resentfully, "How could there be such cruel people? I still hate her when I think of how she burst in and sliced Brother Huo's eyes with a knife. If anything happens to Brother Huo, I won't want to live either. I'd stake my life to kill her."
Lv Ya reassured her, "Don't be angry, you'll only hurt your own health. The Prince has already ordered to let her live or die on her own. She was beaten so badly, she probably won't live anyway. Whether she dies from illness or starvation, she'll get what's coming to her."
In the Feng Yi Pavilion:
Yuan Qing Ling didn't know how long she had been unconscious. She slowly awoke to find the room pitch black.
She was disappointed that she didn't dream of returning to the lab.
Feeling around, she crawled over to the table area, remembering there was tea and buns there.
She needed water and food.
There was no glucose in the medicine box for her to give herself an IV drip.
The short distance took her a long time to crawl. She struggled to stand but immediately collapsed to her knees again. But her hand grabbed a bun and she lay on the floor, taking small bites.
She knew she had a fever and didn't dare eat too much, to avoid overburdening her digestive system.
