Chapter 191: Talk in the Palace
The Guard Captain looked at the old soldier, a little bewildered. He did not expect him to burst into such an intense way. However, then his bewilderment turned to fury. How dare this lowly soldier talk to him like that? "Yo-you damn old man!" he pointed his finger at the old soldier's face, but failed to find a suitable word to rebut, he never faced such a situation before. Everyone used to suck up to him since he became Captain, he felt quite satisfied and above everyone else.
"You… do you want to lose your job as a guard, don't you?" when he could find nothing, he threatened. "You better beg me while on your knees. I might forgive you. Or you have to go home today, old man."
"You fucking shit, who cares about this job, I don't have a family. I am all alone. I have little to live and I want to live peacefully. Fuck your job and fuck you. If I stay with a moron like you, I would die for sure in a short time."
The old man said and dashed away without looking back, leaving dumbstruck Captain and guards all together. Only a few understood his situations and knew what was going on. "Wha-what the fuck!?" the Captain uttered at last, completely lost for words.
The dark-robed man stood in front of the palace and there were even more guards, and this time the man unmounted the horse and passed the letter to the Captain, and said something in his ear. The man nodded gravely and rushed into the palace while other guards took the black-robed man into a guest room.
The place was quite luxurious: the walls made of white stone that looked like marble from earth yet little different; large beautiful white curtains embedded with different kind of flowers hung, now and then, on the windows and the doors and the chambers of the palace. The walls had also been decorated with the paintings or portraits. The beautiful flower washes and statues and monuments stood at the sides of the white walls, sitting on the stool or table as the man in black passed them, walking on the beautiful red carpet that laid on the floor of the palace and reaching to every corner of the castle.
After two minutes of walk the man arrived at the guest room that also showed how marvellously affluent the owner of this place was. Anyway the man in black sat on the soft cushion in the room and drank tea as the servant served him with at most caution. Hardly two minutes passed when the sound of footsteps sounded from out of the guest room and two men entered the place in hurried steps.
The man in black looked up and saw their faces and a creepy smile creeped on his lips. "Long time no see, Romaldo." He turned towards another man. "You are doing well… here, I suppose?" as the man in black said this to Victor, his face once more revealed his ugly and hideous looking smile.
Victor looked at those yellow teeth and felt nothing but disgust in his heart for this man. Though he did not show it on his face, and he knew why. "What are you doing here, Shawth?" he asked with a deadpan face.
"I am your father's right-hand man and I am with him… umm how many years? I forgot. Anyway, it is Uncle Shawth for you." The man in black said, still showing his yellow teeth, while sipping tea now and then.
"Why are you here?" Victor controlled his rage and asked once more. "Is it true what you wrote in the letter?"
"Do I have a gut to lie about such a thing?"
"No."
"See, here is your answer."
Victor narrowed his eyes and raised his brows, hearing Shawth's confirmation. "When?"
"In three or four days," he looked at Romaldo's uneasy face, and chuckled. "Relax Romaldo, I am not here as an Envoy this time. Though you will have difficulties when Lord Laun comes. You better stop all the atrocities for the time being."
The Emperor flinched when he heard the name "Lord Laun". His body shivered in anticipation and fear and nodded. "Don't worry, I will take care of everything."
"That would be better for you." He said in a serious and hard tone, different from before. "Oh, why are you both standing? Please have a seat." He once more smiled and invited the duo to sit on the sofa with him, and neither of them rejected the offer. No one wants to stand like criminals in the entire conversation after all. That would look awkward and embarrassing.
Victor and Romaldo took their seats beside Shawth. "Why is he coming?" It was Victor who asked. "Wasn't he in the closed door cultivation? What happened that forced him to change his plans?"
"Of course he has to come out when the order would come from someone like Third Elder."
Victor flinched, and his face turned a little uneasy, hearing Third Elder's name. Romaldo who sat silent could not help but raise his eyebrows in confusion, but his eyes glittered excitedly. This was a high level talk. Whoever that Third Elder was, he must be a big shot.
"What is his purpose?" Victor asked once more, though this time, his voice sounded a little fearful and filled with unease. "What kind of thing forced the Third Elder to act?"
"The same thing you came here for," replied Shawth, his voice turned into whisper this time that only three people could hear inside the room.
"For those youngsters?" Victor thought he misheard, so he repeated his words for confirmation.
"Yes," Shawth replied.
"Why?" Victor asked in bewilderment. "Did they hide something from me? They told me those youngsters entered the tower and received legacy and we need to get our hands on those legacies. Did they lie?"
Shawth raised his brows. "I also don't know details, but this matter isn't as simple as it seemed." He paused for a second. "I think they didn't want to blow this matter at first. Therefore they sent you, but you failed and delayed the matter that made Elders uneasy, and I think the Leader is also involved in this matter."
