Chapter 60: The Final One Percent
Every year, the school broadcasting room at Thessaloniki First High School sought fresh blood from the incoming freshmen. It was inevitable, as only students from the first and second years could serve as broadcasters; by the time they reached their final year, academics took precedence, making concessions for the college entrance exams.
"That's because your voice is particularly pleasant. As for Elena, her English speaking skills are outstanding, which gives her an advantage in reading English," Lhoraine explained.
Initially, Xanthia hadn't cared much about being selected as a school broadcaster. However, upon discovering that the school broadcasting room was a "training ground" that could accelerate her "voice acting" skills, she thought being a broadcaster wouldn't be so bad. In her previous life, she had liked some voice actors; the characters they voiced in anime had endeared her.
If she could improve her "voice acting" skills, couldn't she perfectly cosplay those characters and reward herself? Just thinking about it made her happy.
Additionally, during her high school years in her previous life, she used to take evening walks around the campus after dinner, listening to the "Voice of the Campus." That feeling made her nostalgic.
Unexpectedly, in this life, she would serve as a school broadcaster, broadcasting the "Voice of the Campus." Experiencing something new like this was quite interesting to her. Her identity had completely changed; previously, she had merely been an audience member.
"Elena wasn't selected because she wasn't prepared at all. She just went through the motions. She thinks being a broadcaster is a waste of time and doesn't offer any benefits," Xanthia explained on Elena's behalf.
Before Lhoraine could say anything, Luciel chimed in, "Xanthia, you're just too modest. Regardless of whether Elena was prepared or not, you won in the end!"
"Yeah, Xanthia, you don't know. When you and Elena participated in the selection, some boys in the class who like to stir things up even started betting. Initially, it was fifty-fifty between you two, but after the results were announced, those boys who had regarded Elena as a goddess took off their filters," Lhoraine added.
Although Lhoraine and Luciel hadn't been Elena's close friends for long, as girls, they clearly had a better grasp of certain things than boys.
What kind of girl was Elena? Having interacted with her, they didn't find her personality unpleasant; they just thought she was overly mature, practical, and worldly-wise, with a hint of refined selfishness.
For example, in matters like the broadcaster selection, getting chosen would bring glory to the class, but it would also consume some personal time. However, Elena had her own considerations. She didn't want to waste time on things that didn't benefit her directly, so she chose to slack off.
In the past, Elena had been unmatched as the "class moonlight." Now, Xanthia, who was more attractive, had better grades, a more likable personality, and was more sincere, had "defeated" Elena head-on and successfully become the school broadcaster, bringing glory to the class.
The comparison between the two was like night and day!
Thus, the roles had changed!
Xanthia also noticed that her "Battle of the Moonlight" mission progress bar had reached ninety-nine percent. It was frustrating to be so close yet still have that one percent left, like when downloading a thrilling action movie and getting stuck at a critical moment.
Now, the question arose: who was dragging their feet on the remaining one percent?
The name "Dematero" suddenly popped into Xanthia's mind.
With a sigh of resignation, if it was him, Xanthia truly had no idea what to do. The stubborn literary youth was too devoted and persistent in his first love. Unless he had a major epiphany...
But then again, how could someone truly understand the pain of failed first love without experiencing it firsthand?
Of course, besides the epiphany, there was also the worst-case scenario: giving up completely and sinking into despair!
As the three girls joyfully spent their half-day holiday together and returned to school on time, Xanthia suddenly received a message from Glen:
"Xanthia, forgive my intrusion, but I must tell you this: today, Dematero has made up his mind and summoned all the courage he has left to confess to Elena.
I supported and encouraged him with all my might because I believed it was better to confess openly than to silently admire from afar...
But fate has its own plans. While we were selecting a gift for the confession in the shopping district, we unexpectedly ran into Elena holding hands with another guy. Although she didn't look particularly sweet, she still had that calm and cool demeanor. But they were holding hands after all...
Dematero was in such high spirits earlier today, but now his mentality has crashed to the extreme. Life seems bleak to him now, and I don't know how to comfort him. Could you please help?"
Covering her mouth, Xanthia nearly burst out laughing. As someone who enjoyed observing others' dramas, her happiness meter surged.
Laughing silently, that's just how she enjoyed spectating on life's dramas...
Let's sneak in a little surprise and play along.
