Happy Evil Heartbreaker [Modern LitRPG]

Chapter 1: New Life (UP)

At first, Xanthia found it utterly impossible to accept that she had been transported into the body of a high school girl after dying from overexertion.

Despite the fact that the boundless energy of youth had always appealed to her, and her fondness for reading online light novels often led her to fantasise about the sudden appearance of a beautiful girl in her life, she never imagined that she herself would become that very girl.

In her previous life, Xanthia had been a beleaguered corporate drone, born into a typical family, perpetually single, toiling away each day, and living an existence so stifling it was almost unbearable. Her only solace lay in the novels she read to unwind and the short videos she watched to escape the monotony...

In a world so cold, it was only the sight of those glamorous, seductive women that could bring her any warmth.

She would occasionally find herself envying those who could live a life of ease on the strength of their looks alone...

So, when she found herself gazing into the mirror at her own delicate, lovely face, she couldn't help but admire it for a while. Slowly, she began to think that perhaps this new life wasn't so difficult to accept after all.

After all, who wouldn't relish a fresh start?

[Ding, Happy Points +233]

A prompt suddenly echoed deep within Xanthia's soul.

Her eyes widened with delight—so it wasn't just a fantasy! Online novels didn't lie; crossing over without a system simply wasn't crossing over at all!

[Ding, Happy Points +9016]

Without delay, she began to examine the system, and it didn't take long for her to grasp its functions as though she were intimately familiar with her own body. The system was intricately woven into the very fabric of her soul, allowing Xanthia to view it through a metaphysical lens.

"Happy Points," the positive, cheerful emotions she generated, could be converted into attribute points and skill points to enhance herself.

A quick glance at her attribute panel revealed her physique, strength, and other attributes were dismally low. Worse still, she had a negative trait labelled "Sickly," which penalised her "Physique -10."

But she wasn't perturbed; after all, with a bit of effort to accumulate "Happy Points," she could raise these attributes, and even the negative trait could be upgraded. "Sickly" (grey) could be elevated to "Healthy" (white) and even "Sturdy" (blue).

This system seemed tailor-made for her. Having endured so much in her previous life and missed out on the joys of youth, she was determined to live as a carefree, happy-go-lucky person in this life. Accumulating happiness should be a breeze.

All the suffering of her past life would be repaid with pleasure in this one!

Besides "Happy Points," she soon discovered another value the system could accumulate—"Pain Points."

At first, she thought "Pain Points" would also come from herself, and she wondered if it would be harder to accumulate them compared to "Happy Points." After all, she couldn't possibly harm herself, could she?

However, upon carefully reading the description of "Pain Points," she realised they were derived from the negative, distressing emotions she could elicit in others through her actions and influence. For instance, she could tell frightening ghost stories or coldly reject someone's confession, leaving them heartbroken...

What a delightful system, thriving on the suffering of others!

Unlike "Happy Points," which were used to enhance her attributes, "Pain Points" were for unlocking the "System Mall" and refreshing and purchasing items within it.

With her experience in gaming, Xanthia immediately equated "Happy Points" to "character experience," while "Pain Points" naturally became the "in-game currency."

Although she was quite curious about the offerings in the "System Mall," it was clear that "Happy Points" were more crucial at this stage, given her currently low attributes.

Initially pleased with her delicate and lovely appearance, she was dismayed to find that her attractiveness was only slightly above average, and her charm were below average. Charm, she realised, was a comprehensive evaluation—not just of looks, but also of fame, talent, and demeanour. Suddenly, her "game character" didn’t seem quite so impressive.

Staring at herself in the mirror, she saw a short-haired, fragile-looking freshman with cold, pale skin and a bloodless face, as though a stiff breeze could knock her over. She certainly embodied the "sickly" description, with a "white, young, and thin" appearance that left much to be desired.

But with the system in hand, Xanthia felt a surge of confidence—given her solid foundation, once she raised her attributes, she would transform into a "perfect goddess," brimming with attractiveness and charm, leaving everyone around her pining in unrequited love...

And that, of course, would provide a rich source of "Pain Points!"

Though it was just a whimsical thought, it had to be said: if she successfully transform herself into the unattainable maiden of many a heart, it would indeed generate a plethora of "Pain Points."

After all, who hasn’t had a crush on a beautiful girl during their youth?

The bold ones confess and face rejection, their hearts shattered.

The timid ones secretly admire her, only to be crushed by rumours that their crush might be dating someone else...

Xanthia couldn't suppress a joyful laugh, her Happy Points surging. In this life, she intended to be someone who revels in chaos and delights in her own amusement.

She was willing to try anything that could bring her joy, though she had her limits; after all, too much of a good thing can be bad.

Next, she turned her attention to the system's task list.

What she appreciated most about the system was its freedom and leniency. There were no forced tasks with penalties for failure to complete them.

After all, this system encouraged a carefree attitude. Being compelled to follow orders would only turn her into a tool for the system, which would hardly be enjoyable.

She noticed that completing tasks primarily rewarded her with tags. For example, the task "Rank first in the monthly exam" would grant the "Study Expert" (white) attribute upon completion.

She could then spend Happy Points to upgrade the attribute to "Study Prodigy" (blue). Beyond that, there were "All-Round Scholar" (purple) and "Academic Exalted" (gold) tags.

Of course, aside from spending Happy Points to boost her attributes directly, she could also improve through hard work. For instance, she could shed the "Sickly" (grey) attribute through persistent exercise.

However, whether it was diligent study or consistent exercise, unless it was a personal passion, it wouldn’t be easy for most people.

Having familiarised herself with the task system, Xanthia opened her eyes and finally claimed the system's newbie gift pack. Inside, she found a set of purple-quality attire—schoolgirl uniform plus over-the-knee socks. Wearing the set would enhance her charm attribute, and for those with a penchant for schoolgirls, the effect would be even greater. Well, wasn’t she one of those people?!

But the frustrating part was that, with her current attribute values, she couldn’t even equip it!

Originally, she had wanted to wear it as a reward for herself. This kind of attire, perfectly aligned with her tastes, would certainly boost her Happy Points!
