Hand of The Eldritch God

C17 Monarchs of The Abyss

In the depths of a place unknown to men for countless centuries, Ren dwelled within the darkness of his cloak. Hiding away from the world he struck out at scuttling insects and destroyed them.

From the shadows he struck first at the strongest of the three. With an empowered sneak attack, the hearty bug was nearly killed. It charged towards him in the darkness. Fine hairs and sensory organs found him in the darkness. Feeling the vibrations in the hair, the other two charged.

The strongest died when two more shots were fired into its odd insectoid figure. Without his sneak attack damage Ren was a bit outclassed. The two charging at him were ridiculously fast, the hundred feet of distance cleared in moments.

Their bodies fired forwards like torpedoes aiming to render his flesh with great tearing mouths and sharp forelegs.

Dashing backwards he emptied four shots into one, without bonus damage the attack only slowed it, unable to kill the target. Sneak attack being terribly overpower it was his lynchpin.

The unhurt arachnid reached him and slammed its jaws at his torso. Falling backwards he sliced through one of its giant mandibles. The bone blade infused with a small amount of eldritch touch leeched corruption into the bug.

Ren tucked his body and slid under the creature; its powerful legs left a great gash over his left shoulder. Blood began seeping heavily down his odd black clothes.

The bone blade sliced forwards and left a gash across the insect, barely penetrating, the blood was minimal but that meant nothing next to the blackness creeping into its body. With a roll he slid from underneath the insect. It twisted as the infectious corruption poisoned its body with an alien pain.

The wounded arachnid came for him next. Jumping to meet its attack he slammed the knife into its mouth as it clamped down on his sides. Thick cuts bled heavily down his sides, and he retracted the weapon from its mouth where it penetrated the skull.

Turning, he looked at the remaining arachnid tearing at itself, a black corruption had begun to spread across it as jolts began to travel throughout Ren’s body and mind. A sudden zapping pain that left his head dizzy.

Holding a hand forwards, he looked at the insect trying to tear off a piece of its own blackening flesh from its underbelly. With a merciful gesture eldritch horror activated in a small wave. The corruption spread quickly devouring the insect.

Goddamn, about time… Moving through the caverns he had found nearly a dozen of the insects. This was the first time he had encountered them in a group. The insects were insanely weak for their level compared to him. It seemed that a large deal of their power budget was spent on a boost of speed to catch unwary prey and their building of secret tunnels. When caught off guard they were quite easy. Easy, until they group and try to eat you alive that is.

He allocated his free points into intelligence and endurance. It was rare that he got truly injured like this, instead he had made easy work thus far killing enemies from a distance.

Things changed. After he had rested and allowed his new natural regeneration to take over, only becoming better as he leveled, he encountered far more in groups than before.

His bullets were not doing enough damage to keep up with the increasing numbers and levels of the arachnids.

Firing a sneak attack and the remaining five bullets of his revolver into the level thirteen arachnid, it died. Black body falling into the sloping descending far into the abyss, it passed over the second insect. Lunge forwards its tremor sense allowed it to feel disturbances in the air.

Within the blackness the giant mandibles and two forelegs came slashing down on Ren. He threw himself downwards falling into the abyss. Summoning a firebolt the flame slammed into the insect’s thick torso after launching forth from him.

The burning quickly stopped as the damage was absorbed by the insect’s strong body. The exoskeleton was quite resilient to fire damage, though enough fire burned through anything.

Ren caught a ledge on the seemingly endless slope down into the abyss. Like a slide falling steeply into the underworld only darkness rested below him.

The insect clattered down the side of the slope after him, he summoned another two firebolts that slammed into the same spot on the giant insect.

Giant forelegs slammed down towards him as he rolled. Mandibles struck down across his back as he sliced through one of its forelegs. The razor-sharp leg fell free and slid down into the darkness.

Ren fired a point-blank inferno into the creature's face before it could do any more damage with its sharp body. The sizzling bug tried again to attack him but failed as all of its sensory hairs had been burned off by the blaze.

Ren’s bone blade met its head as he put it down. He sighed; more wounds meant more time lost healing. They could find me down here, it's not like a path full of monsters… not anymore.

He crouched down on the steep slope. Without his new dexterity he would have never been able to hold himself up on such a slope, let alone rest on one. The stats had made him into the most athletic human on earth, if he was even a human, or on earth. He was far from home, alone and in an abyss deeper than he could imagine.

The slow regeneration of his body took hours. Wounds that would have gone infectious, or bled out began to heal themselves in less time than a scratch from a dog. Maybe he was blessed, or perhaps, damned.

When he had stopped bleeding, and had eaten some burned insect bites, he began his descent into the great unknown. Within an hour he saw the reason for the arachnids' increased number and size as he had descended.

Assassin Arachnid King Lvl 14

Assassin Arachnid Queen Lvl 16

As he looked at the pair who guarded over a nest of eggs tucked into a crevasse, the male, was giant. The female, tiny. Yet, she gave off a terrible aura of power. The men he had looked into at the Monastery were like mountains, unknowable and great, a small rockslide off their side would destroy you.

She was like a boulder, if it rolls you over, you’re fucked. Ren thought to himself. So, don’t get run over like an idiot.

Analyzing the male, he noticed it was at a threshold nearly ready to ascend as the queen had, so, fourteen is the point before ascension, eh?

Ren prepared a sneak attack, for nearly an hour he observed the assassin arachnids. Slowly tending their nest, the king patrolled around the big opening to their sealed off chambers. The only time it was opened was when the king left, leaving Ren clear to see the eggs and queen. He figured it was better to try and kill the king first as he was likely able to be taken out before the queen attacked.

After his long study, Ren empowered a sneak attack with eldritch touch. The mental indicator for his sneak attack damage was close to driving him insane, its slow buildup was an anxiety in the back of his skull just waiting to destroy his enemies.

The attack slammed home, tearing through the insect's torso, the bullet knocked off the rear leg of the king. Unable to launch himself forwards without one of his rear legs, the king thrashed for a second before trying to dash forwards. The arachnid scuttled forwards heavily slowed down, unable to gain much speed with the heavy damage. Within moments of Ren firing off a second shot hitting the king’s head with an eldritch touch empowered bullet, the queen attacked.

Like a missile ready to launch, the queen opened her doorway into the hidden egg chamber. With a moment of readying herself she launched. Firing forward like one of Ren’s bullets, she slammed into him without his attempt to dodge beginning.

She tore through his side, flesh severed and blood gushing. The center of his torso was horrifically cut, in shock he was unable to act as she mandibles bit down onto his shoulder.

His knife arm in the grip of her jaws, he pulled the revolver across his chest aiming in at her face clamping down on him. Four empowered bullets slammed into her face. Her many eyes exploding in blood, black veins crept across her. Far smaller than the huge bugs, she nearly pulled him down to the ground, the ground being the high slope directly behind him. Nearly wall-like the slope was so heavy she could stand on it and bite his shoulder while still a small creature.

The corruption across her head burned away at her body. Slowly it began disintegrating though her mandibles bit deeper into him. The strain of six eldritch bullets combined with his injuries left him terribly low on health. She released him and began to tear at her own eyes. Ren unleashed a blaze from his hand, purely turning his mana into condensed heat that burned with horrific intensity.

The blaze combined with the corruption spreading across her face caused her to shriek in pain. The queen slammed herself into the ground in panic. Blinded both by fire and by corruption she was totally blind to the world besides the smell and sound of her down charring.

Ren slammed home his bone blade into the arachnid queen’s skull. She fell, in short moments after, her king subsided to the corruption spreading within him and lost himself to the deep darkness below.
