Guide Me If You Dare

Chapter 8: GUIDE ON TOP

YUNO had so many questions, but he didn't have the chance to ask Moon Noa.

How could he do that when the CEO gave him a ride in his superbike?

Superbikes were already built for racing, and Moon Noa was a reckless driver. If his boss wasn't a chaebol and an S-Class Guide, he would have been arrested already for several traffic violations.

At least, Sajangnim hasn't hit a person or damaged a property yet. That's where I draw the line. I wouldn't work for a boss who has caused a road accident due to reckless driving.

Anyway, the point was Yuno didn't get a chance to talk to Moon Noa.

We left the Bureau as soon as Guide Bambi gave us "permission" to leave.

And when they arrived at the Esper Training Center, Moon Noa practically treated him like a P*kemon.

["Go, Yuyu! Use attack on Esper Ki Gayoon!"]

["Sajangnim, I'm not getting paid enough to go along with your childish—"]

["I'll double your salary this month."]

[" attack it is, whatever that means."]

["Esper Ki Gayoon is in the rooftop of the Center's main building, so go there."]

The freaking elevator in the building wasn't working, so Yuno ran up the stairs just to reach the rooftop.

And when he got there, he was greeted by Ki Gayoon who looked "sober" to him.

This old man hasn't gone on a Rampage yet.

"You're faking your Rampage, aren't you?"

"You can tell?"

"Well, I'm still a Guide."

"I was faking it earlier, but I'm about to snap for real this time. Before I lose my mind, let's make a deal first," Gayoon said, putting his hands in his pockets while approaching him. "Be my Guide, you little shit."

Yeah, "little shit" is probably the only insult he knows.

Yuno gulped hard, his shoulders trembling from anger— and yet he raised his head and looked at Ki Gayoon straight in the eye. "Or else what?"

"Name your price," Ki Gayoon said arrogantly, raising his chin like the obnoxious bastard that he was. "Sell yourself to me, Noh Yuno."

Haaah.

As expected, most high-ranking Espers really had two "illness."

First, they think all Guides want them. Second, they think Guides need Espers and not the other way around.

"I don't know why you're working for Moon Noa, but if that's the case, then it only means you're a Freelance Guide. I've only heard about Freelance Espers before, but if Moon Noa is behind you, then it's possible that he used underhanded tricks to get you out of the Bureau."

What a quick-witted bastard.

It was true that Freelance Guides were unheard of since all Guides were "government property."

To be honest, Yuno didn't know how Moon Noa saved him from the Bureau.

But Esper Ki Gayoon was right— my crafty boss probably used his usual evil schemes.

"I'll double the salary you get from working for Moon Noa," Ki Gayoon continued with his bullshit. "Since you'll need to stay by my side for most of the time, you'll have a room in my house. You'll also be required to accompany me in the office…"

Blah-blah-blah…

Okay, Yuno had already stopped listening to the arrogant Esper.

This grumpy man talks like I've already agreed to be his Guide.

"Are you listening, you little shit?"

"Be for real, Ahjussi. Would you listen to the person who calls you "little shit" and talks down on you every chance he gets?"

Ki Gayoon flinched, but he was still as obnoxious when he opened his mouth. "I didn't take you for a snowflake who easily gets hurt by how other people treat them."

"Is it so shocking that someone "below" you has self-respect? Do you only hang out with doormats?"

"Why are you angry, Noh Yuno? Is my offer that bad?"

"I'm tired of Espers treating Guides like we're second-class citizens in this country," Yuno said while walking towards Ki Gayoon. "I'll make you realize that you don't have the upper-hand in this, Ahjussi."

Ki Gayoon raised his eyebrows, his (uselessly handsome) face full of mocking. "You'll make me realize what?"

Heh.

Instead of giving a verbal response, Yuno just walked past Ki Gayoon…

… and then stood on the railing, facing the Esper, before he jumped off the rooftop.

Yes, yes, he did.

Yuno. Jumped. Off. The. Rooftop.

Guides were stronger than Civilians, but he would still die from that height since he wasn't built like a tank.

Was he afraid?

Not really.

Esper Ki Gayoon won't let me die since I'm the only Guide he can tolerate— that much is obvious.

"NOH YUNO, YOU CRAZY LITTLE SHIT!"

Heh.

Yuno smirked when he saw the distressed look on Ki Gayoon's face while shouting profanities, and then he raised his hands and gave the grumpy old man a double middle finger. "Fuck you."

***

KI GAYOON almost had a heart attack.

Which was stupid because he was a healthy thirty-year-old man, with no history of illness related to the heart.

But this little shit almost gave me a heart attack…

Fortunately, he was an S-Class Esper with the power and agility needed to save a person who jumped off the rooftop.

"Have you lost your mind?" Gayoon yelled at Noh Yuno— who looked unapologetic— while carrying the little shit in his arms. He wanted to drape the bastard over his shoulder like a sack of potato, but he didn't because he wanted to see the little shit's face while he was scolding him. "Did you really have to jump off the rooftop just to make a point?!"

"I'm dramatic that way," Noh Yuno said casually, crossing his arms over his chest. "And don't overestimate my will to live— I'm the type of person who doesn't understand why the main characters in apocalypse movies are so determined to stay alive. If it was me, I'd just let the zombie or whatever bite me."

"Are you trying to prove that I need you more than you need me?"

"Oh, you're quick on the uptake. You saved me because you can't let the only Guide you can tolerate die, right?"

Haaah.

I almost had a heart attack just because this little shit wanted to prove a point!

For the first time in a long while, Ki Gayoon lost. "I'll give you anything and everything you want as long as you agree to be my Guide, Noh Yuno."

"Why don't we start with saying 'please?'"

"What?!"

"And don't call my name casually— use some honorifics, will you?" Noh Yuno said, smirking. "Let's treat each other with basic respect, Esper Ki Gayoon-ssi."

Gayoon shut his eyes tight, holding back himself from literally throwing away this little shit in the nearest garbage bin he could find.

What did I get myself into?
