Chapter 8
determine career path
Yahoo has continued to grow since its publication. I was now put in such a position as to become a bit of a saver, but I was not treated properly because I was still a student. Nevertheless, I became quite familiar with Jerina David, who is actually leading the company, and was not ignored because no one doubted my skills.
By the time I was in the 12th grade, I was thinking about going to college. Of course, I had to go in, but I hesitated that I would have to leave the possibilities open and go to school for the stock options and venture. Bill Gates dropped out of college, too, right?
“Mom, can I postpone going to college? ”
Be careful when you call from Seoul.
“What! What’s wrong with you?!” My mother’s reaction is violent.
It is not easy to not go to college in Korea. Of course, it is really difficult to have a family situation, but I rarely want to send a very well-studied child from a parent in Seoul to college.
“That’s not it. I thought I’d push it back a year…” I retreated a little bit.
“I don’t know what’s going on, but no!” What a reaction.
“But what’s going on?” Then he asks why.
I talked about the Internet, ventures, and opportunities here, but it doesn’t work for my mom. My son, who is the proud son of the neighborhood, said that the words such as opportunity or dreams could never work out for a mother who wanted to pass the prestigious school and continue to boast about her son. I made a commitment to pass Ivy League to her shrine and hung up.
When I decided to go to college, I got ready for the SAT. So far, he had developed some skills through school and cardio, so he dropped out of school and studied intensively for several months, earning more than 1560 points by the end of the fall.
“John, do you have any idea where you’re going to college? ”
Jennifer, my girlfriend, asks me over lunch.
“Yes, I’m thinking about it. ”
“You can’t quit your company, you can’t go to college. ”
“But don’t you have to decide quickly? “
“I’m actually preparing to apply to Stanford. You don’t have to quit the company. The boss, Jerry, David, they’re all from there, right? I already got a few letters of recommendation. ”
“Really?” I can see the heart in my eyes.
You may have thought about it, but at least you’re happy to hear it. Where else would they be?
According to the fact that our school is a little outside, we don’t qualify much for the so-called IVY league. In particular, the prestigious masters of the world, Harvard, Stanford and MIT, have one in a year.
“Well, that should be easy to get into.” Hm. I’ll answer any questions you may have. ”
I said, “Yeah. I’ve got over 1560 SATs already. I’ve got three letters of recommendation for the East Gate. What’s the big deal? ”
“Wow! Congratulations!” Jennifer yells loudly. The kids at the restaurant asked twice what was going on.
“Me, too. That’s great.” I congratulate my best friend Jenny. But I’m not in yet.
“What about you and Jenny? ”
“I think I’m going to Santa Clara College.”
The University of Santa Clara is a school in southern San Francisco. Jennifer, the blonde beauty, was doing well because she wasn’t a very hard worker, and her parents decided not to go to another city to study there.
“Where’s Jenny?”
“I’m going to Santa Barbara.” Santa Barbara is further south and closer to LA. You studied a little better than Jennifer. Khh.
Speaking of which, I’ve decided to discuss it at school. I went to see the principal who I knew as a nerd. You should get a school letter of recommendation.
“May I speak to Mrs. Hamilton? Are you there now? ”
The principal, Mrs. Hamilton, is a slightly strict white woman in her 50s who, when I first came to this school, tended to underestimate Orientals a little. However, my actions changed the impression of Asians throughout the school a lot.
I stayed close to many teachers because I was tall, athletic, and had a lot of leadership, so I often presented various events or announcements. Moreover, the rumor that I was a big part of Yahoo’s growth is somewhat pervasive and, of course, fact-based, but it’s all very favorable to me.
“Wait a minute.” The secretary checks the schedule.
“Yes, I think he’s in his room. ”
Knock, knock. I knocked on the principal’s door.
“Hello, Dr. Hamilton.”
“Oh, John, yeah, how are you?” Very pleased to meet you. A man must have a reputation.
“So, what’s going on? ”
“Yes, to get a letter of recommendation. ”
“Oh, college? Have you decided on a school?” It’s weird that I’m so happy.
“Yes, I’m applying to Stanford. ”
Mrs. Hamilton was also told about her SAT scores and three alumni recommendations. The principal was just as happy as he was and praised me for setting up the school face. The characteristics of white teachers are that they are really, really good at compliments.
I’m not sure if it’s actually in my mind. I left the office with confirmation of the letter of recommendation. Oh, you have half a year left in school.
After spending so much time preparing and applying for school, I was busy for a while. Of course, after I was too busy to break up, I couldn’t spend as much time with Jennifer as I used to, but sometimes I relieved the stress that I accumulated while enjoying a date.
Jennifer had little to fight for because she was a natural person or a gentleman and obeyed me well. Come on, I’m in love with you… Huhu…
When I bought the car with the money I sold, my plans to pay off my debt and get the condo and move out changed a little. First, Korean people should eat one meal, but I hated eating food that had an attitude other than my work or studying, and I decided to wait a little longer than moving twice because I had very little time left to study in the school dormitory or near the college anyway.
Moreover, I couldn’t bear to move while I was busy preparing for college.
I had to keep Jennifer quiet for the crimes she had already committed. I don’t know why I’m moving, but I need to appease my girlfriend. You can tell your friends that your boyfriend bought a car and a house, but his mouth is the problem.
But there’s another hidden reason.
Our company has dozens of rental houses around it. It’s also known as an employee lodging, and it’s an extra condo room for overnight staff or long-term business travelers, and Mark was scouting in and using it all the time. Mark is a server performance improvement and monitoring specialist who comes home late every day to manage the recently expanded servers.
“Hello, John.” Mark greets you as you enter the office. I’m having lunch with Mark, but he especially welcomes me today.
“Mark, there’s something good going on. You said hello first. ”
“Oh, it’s no different. I need to ask you something.”
“Really? What is it? ”
“Yes, I’m going to Korea this time. So I wanted to get some information from you. ”
“In Korea?! ”
“Yes, Korean offices were established last month. I’m supposed to go help set up the servers this time. I’m going to stay a month.”
I know there has been some talk about setting up a branch office, but I did not know that the Korean branch had already opened a business. Probably, none of my friends here know or are interested in Korea, so I don’t think anyone cares.
I am indifferent even though I have told you that I am Korean several times. Come on, you want to tell me the difference between Congo and Uganda and there? I don’t get it. I need the height of power. I guess 88 Olympics isn’t enough.
“Yes. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I’ll find out.”
“Yes, thank you. And there’s one more thing.” It’s cloudy. Hmm. Is that what this is about? I feel that way when I see your face.
“Actually, I have a cat. Tetera. Can you take over while I’m gone? ”
“I think I’ll stay at a hotel in Korea, but I can’t take you. ”
“What! A cat?! ”
“He’s a really good kid. There’s no one around to take care of you. You know, my house is in the east, so I don’t have to give it to you. How could I not?” He looks so pitiful. That’s why you’re supposed to expand your relationship. Tsk, tsk. A cat, by the way.
“I can’t do it! I’m a boarder, too. The owner’s gonna be pissed. Maybe a week or two. ”
I politely and politely refused for the right reason. I could have left it to Jennifer, but I didn’t want to do that.
“Oh, by the way, why don’t you take two weeks, and the rest of you just come into my room and give me something to eat? If you ask me to take over for a week, someone else might. ”
“In your room? Aren’t you leaving the room? ”
“No, my room will be empty while I’m in Korea. ”
Oooh! I thought it was an opportunity, but I said it secretly.
“Yeah, well, what if I take care of you? I think I can ask my friends…” The fundamentals of negotiation are to show some hand.
“Really?! Really!” Suddenly, I’m aggressive with small possibilities.
In the end, Mark offered me $500 and offered me a Tete for a month. $500 is neither small nor large, but it’s usually this much for friends or relatives and $1000 for maintenance. Mark said he couldn’t let Tete stay locked up all day in the administration rather than the money. As a bonus, Mark’s room is also being managed by me for a month.
“I can sleep in your room when I’m busy, so clean it up and go! Okay!”
“Don’t worry. Thank you very much.” Mark thanked me as if I’d lost a sick man. Shit, I appreciate it more. Huh-huh-huh.
Artwork Reviews
Yahoo Korea Branch was founded in November 1996, and it was written for it, and it turns out it’s September. So I made a little modification.
We made some edits to the university names for later content development.
