Ghost Slayer: My Wife Kanao

Chapter 42: ch41

Sam Miller didn't know exactly where Tanjiro Kamado lived, only that it should be near Mount Sagiri.

Mount Sagiri was the place where the 'Water Pillar,' Sakonji Urokodaki, trained his disciples. He still had to find it.

Due to his nature as a demon, Sam gradually grew fond of traveling in the dark. During the day, he usually found a dark place to sleep with Kanao Tsuyuri.

During these days, he didn't forget to take care of Kanao. As long as he could think of nutritional items and find a way to get them—whether stolen or taken—he would ensure Kanao had them.

As a result, almost all the local pharmacies and homes with treasured items they passed suffered from his activities. After all, no matter how well-hidden or well-guarded a place was, once a demon targeted it, it was basically doomed.

Thanks to Sam's care and the good food, Kanao was growing well, becoming more and more radiant. Seeing the sparkle in her eyes made Sam look forward to the future even more.

...

"There is a temple ahead. Shall we go there and rest for a while?" Sam tilted his head and looked at the girl holding his hand.

The girl, still puppet-like and unable to express her feelings, could now make some simple movements. At this moment, she nodded blankly.

It was a bit kawaii.

After finding a clean place for Kanao to sit, Sam stood up and looked around the ruined temple.

It was a dilapidated temple, but there was still a faint smell of human activity, indicating the place wasn't entirely deserted.

He stretched and walked to the gate of the temple. In the pitch-black night, where one couldn't see their own fingers, everything was clearly visible through his golden eyes.

In the distance, a torch illuminated some areas, like firefly lights under the dark earth's cover.

Someone was coming.

He tightened the hat on his head. Although he wasn't afraid of humans, revealing his identity as a demon would still bring unnecessary trouble.

Not long after, a faint noise reached his ears. Horses carried loads, and everyone seemed heavily burdened. They appeared to be traveling merchants.

After about fifteen minutes, the team of merchants appeared in his vision.

There were many of them, about thirty people, including some women and children. Among them were several strong individuals with bulging waists, sometimes pressing their hands against their sides.

They were likely the guards for the traveling merchants, explaining their confidence to travel at night.

The travelers approached the temple gate, their hearts tightening at the sight of the young man in the bamboo hat standing there. After all, seeing someone unexpectedly in such a dark and isolated place can make one's heart race.

"We are merchants passing through, heading to the city ahead. We can't travel at night. Would it be possible for us to rest here?" the leader of the merchants asked, keeping his posture low. Although the other party looked like a young boy, appearing suddenly in such a place was always unusual.

As merchants who traveled far and wide, they knew that people of unknown origins were generally not to be provoked.

Sam smiled. "I'm just passing through as well. This is an unowned place. If you want to rest here, don't worry about me."

With that, he stopped paying attention to them and quietly returned to Kanao.

Hearing Sam's words, the leader of the caravan breathed a sigh of relief and quickly thanked him. He then instructed everyone to unload their belongings and rest in the temple for the night.

Most of them were busy with the goods, but a few weren't. Those few were the strong individuals with bulging waists, likely responsible for the merchants' safety.

Especially the leader, who, though silent, kept a vigilant eye on Sam, particularly noting the scabbard hanging from his waist.

After all, in this era, traveling at night required certain skills, especially when accompanied by a little girl. This kind of pairing seemed very unusual.

Sam didn't care about their vigilance. He had nothing to do with them, and they would continue on their way after Kanao had rested.

But then, someone in the caravan caught his attention.

A clever black-haired boy, always busy helping everyone.

He looked like someone he knew.

Giyu Tomioka.
