Chapter 120: Genshin Impact's Incense Burner Of Liyue [120]
"Hahahahahahaha—"
Out on the open plains, with the gentle breeze flowing, Tartaglia's laughter startled nearby birds into taking flight. His arm was slung over Gu Sanqiu's shoulder, shaking with mirth.
True, gut-busting laughter.
"You done laughing yet?"
Gu Sanqiu sighed in exasperation. Two days ago, he had shared bits and pieces of the recent events with Tartaglia, intending to keep him busy and maybe get some information in return.
But what he hadn't expected was that Tartaglia's focus wasn't on the brilliant, enigmatic homunculus but on the fact that he had been the one tied up.
[Friend behavior—check.]
"Sorry, but it's just too funny, hahahahaha!"
Tartaglia laughed so hard he nearly coughed, eventually straightening up, smirking at Gu Sanqiu. "I never thought I'd see the head of the Gu family get captured by a homunculus. That's some headline news."
"Nonsense. My family may be old, but it's not like I'm some ancient master. I'm barely in my twenties, you know."
Gu Sanqiu shook his head. "It's not like my family has some tradition of passing down our cultivation across generations. If power could really be inherited that way, I'd have had no trouble dealing with him."
"What do you mean by 'passing down an account'? Oh, I get it."
Tartaglia snapped his fingers, understanding dawning. "You mean, he's a product of accumulated knowledge, whereas your strength comes from years of hard training—so it's not a fair comparison?"
"It's not just my generation in the Gu family, and I'm no ancient freak. I'm just a regular young guy—why did you think I'd easily defeat him?"
"That's fair, I suppose. It's true I hadn't considered that."
Tartaglia scratched his chin, musing. "But still, I wonder if that captain would agree to a duel with me."
"I think if you show him enough sincerity, you might get your wish. But let's save that for later—today we've got more important things to do."
Gu Sanqiu turned his gaze toward the figure waiting for them up ahead.
"Today, he's the main event. We're just here to back him up and watch the show."
"You're here?"
"We're here."
"So, tell me, what do you need me to do?"
"It's simple."
Gu Sanqiu replied calmly, "Do you know any stargazing techniques?"
"Hm, I've dabbled a bit in fate-related studies—enough to get by, I think."
"Good."
Gu Sanqiu patted his side, and strange creatures—ferocious-looking beasts—piled up on the ground before them.
"This is…"
"Raw materials. Don't worry about what they are."
"No, I'm genuinely curious. What kind of storage technique can carry something this large?"
Tartaglia nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I'm curious too—think you can make one for me?"
"It's not that easy."
Gu Sanqiu rolled his eyes.
As a traveler from another world, having some space storage is perfectly normal, right? Like a soccer player carrying a wrench.
"Alright, here's the plan: I'll teach you how to use these things. If we're lucky enough to have some leftovers, they'll make for a great lunch."
Gu Sanqiu stomped lightly, and with a precise manipulation of elemental energy, the earth itself rose up, forming an impressive altar.
"Albedo, can you head over to a Hilichurl camp and bring back four of their torches?"
"Understood. Give me twenty minutes."
As Albedo left, Tartaglia glanced at Gu Sanqiu, who was busy inscribing runes onto the altar.
"So, what do you need to tell me that required sending him away?"
"There could be danger later. Be prepared for the worst. If something happens to him, it's up to the two of us to handle it."
Gu Sanqiu's expression was calm. "Also, if something interesting comes up later, make sure to act really curious—like, extremely curious. Ask questions until you can't anymore, got it?"
"Why don't you do it yourself?"
"I'm the one performing the ritual. If I show too much interest, it might give him a slight advantage."
"In a battle of wits and words, I don't want to go head-to-head with a homunculus over knowledge. So, I can't give him any openings. This critical task is yours—understood?"
"No problem. Leave it to me."
Tartaglia's eyes sparked with anticipation. "An action with risks? I like it!"
"But hey, you're not telling him, which makes sense. How about telling me what this is all about?"
"Can't you guess?"
Gu Sanqiu stomped the ground again and pointed to the beast carcasses.
"Altar. Offerings."
"If you're planning to offer these to Barbatos, I don't think they match his tastes. Same goes for your Liyue's Geo Archon—these things wouldn't suit him either."
Gu Sanqiu smirked. "Who said I'm offering them to them?"
"This is one of my secrets. Even if you dig around, you won't find out more. So don't ask too many questions. But if this works, you'll get a cut of the benefits."
Not long after, Albedo returned with the torches. Gu Sanqiu placed them at precise points around the altar, then gestured for Albedo to stand at the center.
"Use your stargazing technique. Keep your mind as calm as still water while focusing on communicating with the stars above. Can you do that?"
"Easily. Shall I begin?"
"Begin."
As Albedo entered a meditative state, Gu Sanqiu and Tartaglia moved the beast corpses around the altar's perimeter.
Following Gu Sanqiu's instructions, Tartaglia withdrew to a distance of about a hundred meters, while Gu Sanqiu began chanting a scripture that sounded ancient and cryptic, yet oddly rhythmic.
Item: Prayer Texts (Complete Set, with instructions for altar construction).
Source: Too many to count.
Note: Scriptures that might catch the attention of higher beings, paired with an altar and offerings, might bring about good fortune? But wouldn't this be dismissed as superstitious nonsense in a world of science?
As the chanting continued, the beast corpses began to fade, as if being erased by some invisible force—eerie, yet peaceful.
When the incantation ended, Gu Sanqiu exhaled and glanced at Albedo, who remained deep in meditation.
That's the nice thing about a homunculus—none of the usual human restlessness or curiosity. Without specific instructions, they won't budge an inch.
If it were a normal person in this situation, they'd probably struggle just to keep their eyes shut, let alone stay calm with some mysterious ritual going on.
"Let's hope this works."
Gu Sanqiu kept his eyes fixed on the sky, knowing that most of the items his golden finger conjured up were either food or materials, usually lacking instructions, and often accompanied by snarky comments…
Damn it, why does that make me even more annoyed the more I think about it?!
He took a deep breath. In fairness, the items themselves had never let him down—anything that claimed to be usable always delivered.
If this failed, he'd have to find another way to reach his experimental goal.
BOOM!
A massive thunderclap erupted above, followed by a dazzling burst of blue light with a white core, streaking down from the heavens like a falling star.
"It worked!"
Gu Sanqiu's face lit up with joy. "It actually worked! This method really works!"
Achievement unlocked—A true in-game gacha pull in a real world setting!
