Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Kamisato Ayato didn't feel any fluctuation in his heart when Yae Miko lied so naturally. His face remained composed, and he admired in his heart that she was indeed worthy of being Yae Miyaji-sama.
The plan was being executed so precisely from the beginning that he and his sister only needed to play their part.
However, Kamisato Ayaka felt excited witnessing this scene, which seemed like something out of a Yae Publishing House novel, her little face turning red with excitement.
This was something unimaginable in Inazuma, yet she was able to participate in it.
In Inazuma, she could only relieve stress in her room in the Kamisato Estate. Outside her room, she had to maintain her role as a dignified lady of the Kamisato Clan. In Inazuma City, she was the White Heron Princess, unable to do anything that contradicted her image.
As she was lost in thought, she was jolted back to reality by a sudden exclamation.
"Ah! So, that's it, that's it! Our ancestors remembered the names of the gods incorrectly. The Kamisato family has been offering sacrifices to the gods in Takamagahara for a thousand years without receiving any response. That's why!"
The great priest Kamisato pounded his chest and stamped his feet, sometimes crying, sometimes laughing.
He had doubted whether gods truly existed in the world, and now he knew. Gods did exist, but their ancestors had passed down many things incorrectly through oral traditions.
"It turns out that the real name of Lord Kenyu Thunder God is Yuken Narukami."
"I wonder, what are the immortal names of Lord Fox Immortal and the two divine envoys?" the high priest Kamisato asked respectfully.
Yae Miko smiled, her eyes filled with mischief. "My name is Yae Miko, and I am a descendant of Yuken Narukami. Additionally, Yuken Narukami is not a male god, but a goddess."
"Lord Yuken Narukami is a goddess…" murmured the great priest Kamisato, once again overwhelmed by emotion.
"As for these two..." Yae Miko looked at the Kamisato siblings behind her and winked.
"We are not Lord Narukami's descendants. We are simply divine envoys granted the Eyes of God," Kamisato Ayato stepped forward and said warmly. "My name is Kamisato Ayato."
"My name is Kamisato Ayaka," Kamisato Ayaka added.
"Lord Kamisato Divine Envoy," the high priest Kamisato said respectfully.
Ayaka felt shy at the title, though her red face betrayed her inner excitement.
"The Eye of God?" Butterfly Shinobu, who stood behind Ubuyashiki Kagaya, couldn't help but mutter.
Yae Miko's sensitive ears picked up on it. She looked over at Shinobu, who realized her mistake, and the corners of her mouth twitched in regret.
"Oh? This little girl seems quite interested in the Eye of God," Yae Miko said, her voice teasing.
Everyone was startled, and Shinobu's expression froze, knowing she had made a mistake.
"I am deeply sorry, Lord Fox Immortal," Butterfly Kanae quickly spoke up, pulling Shinobu to kneel in apology. "My sister has been mischievous since childhood. It was not intentional. We sisters sincerely apologize."
"Y-Yes, I'm sorry..." Shinobu added, her face pale.
Despite her earlier skepticism about the clay statues enshrined in shrines, she knew she was standing before a real god—a fox immortal from mythology.
"Don't be so nervous. I'm not an evil spirit. Someone like this little girl would have been favored by the gods and granted the Eye of God, even in the Age of Gods," Yae Miko reassured them, smiling at the Hashira behind Ubuyashiki Kagaya, who were visibly tense, fearing she might punish the young girl.
"Not just this little girl—even the children of the Demon Slayer Corps would have had the chance to receive the Eyes of God from the gods during the Age of Gods and become heroes immortalized in stories."
"Lord Fox Immortal, what exactly is the Eye of God?" Kyojuro Rengoku, a young member of the Demon Slayer Corps, asked with wide, curious eyes.
He was only 14 years old at the time.
Shinjuro Rengoku was shocked by his son's audacity.
"Since the young ones are curious, I shall tell you," Yae Miko said, resting her chin on her left hand while her right hand held her left elbow. Kamisato Ayato stepped forward, removing the Eye of God from his waist to show it.
"In the Age of Gods, when a person's desire was strong enough, the gods would turn their gaze upon them, granting them the Eye of God," Yae Miko began.
"Once one possesses the Eye of God, they gain power akin to a god's—earth-shaking onmyoji, sword techniques capable of cleaving rivers, and control over fire, frost, plants, and more."
"Those who are granted the Eye of God are also called 'original gods.'"
"Why are they called 'original gods'?" Butterfly Shinobu quickly asked, her curiosity evident.
Yae Miko smiled mysteriously, holding up the Eye of God for all to see. "Because those who receive the Eye of God have the potential to become gods themselves."
"Become a god!" Everyone's eyes widened, fixating on the Eye of God in Yae Miko's hand, stunned by what they had heard.
The atmosphere turned still, their pounding heartbeats filling the air, reflecting just how shocking this revelation was.
"Of course, I only said they have the potential," Yae Miko added playfully, returning the Eye of God to Kamisato Ayato.
"It must depend on their wishes—not all desires can cause the gods to notice," Kyojuro Rengoku said thoughtfully.
"You're quite sharp," Yae Miko praised. This young man was indeed destined to shine brightly in the future. She believed he would definitely earn the Eye of God even in Teyvat.
"Yes, selfish desires like wealth or immortality will not catch a god's attention. Only noble desires that benefit both humanity and the world are sufficient."
"For instance, a doctor dedicated to saving lives, someone seeking knowledge to benefit others, someone wishing to protect the weak, or someone wanting to use laws to uphold justice."
"When one fully realizes such wishes, then and only then will they have the potential to become a god," Yae Miko explained with a smile, recalling what she had learned from the mischievous Lord Takumi.
"No wonder the heroes blessed by the gods in myths are all legendary figures. It all makes sense now," Kyojuro said with admiration.
"You brat, stop talking out of turn!" Shinjuro knocked his son on the head. Speaking casually in such a situation was certainly reckless.
"Ow!" Kyojuro winced, holding his head.
Yae Miko giggled. "Alright, alright, let's get back on track."
"Lord Yuken Narukami will be watching over this land now. Perhaps some of the brave Demon Slayer Corps members might gain the Eyes of God while fighting against the evil spirits~" she said teasingly.
