Genetic Ascension

Chapter 646: No Need

Chapter 646: No Need

While everyone else was panicking, the movement of Sylas seemed quite conspicuous. He had the calmest gait, and he was the only existence walking toward the danger instead of rushing away from it. Well, other than the scholars and guards trying to play hero.

Alex and the others lagged behind Sylas a bit. Until now, they hadn’t made their presences known, so their connection to Sylas wasn’t nearly so obvious.

Sylas wasn’t sure exactly what his own plan was just yet, so he preferred to give himself some flexibility, and this was the best way to do that.

With a step, Sylas began to walk up the wide steps that led to the entrance of the glass pyramid. Signs of the Basilisk King’s rampage filled the region, many stones scattering across the now misshapen path.

When Sylas got to the top of the stairs, he found the corpses of the two scholars who had blocked them when they first arrived strewn across the ground.

He only gave them a glance before continuing onward.

There was no satisfaction in his heart. For one, the scholars had only acted as they had because someone much higher up told them to do so. And second… Sylas wasn’t the type to feel rage when others targeted him.

He saw this as a simple way of the world. When you were weak, others would take advantage where they could.

So long as he felt the situation was still under his control, he didn’t understand why he should waste energy on feeling angry. In the end, weren’t they dead while he was the inevitable winner? What, then, would have been the point?

Evidence of the Basilisk King’s destruction filled the halls. As Sylas walked, he could practically follow the trails of blood.

Maybe he had underestimated the Basilisk King far too much. Its strength, especially with the Beast Totem activated, was shocking.

Part of Sylas felt that it might be regretful that he couldn’t use Beast Totem to cast Beacon and buff his Contract at the same time. He wasn’t sure before just how much chaos he would need.

But the Basilisk King turned out to not need his help at all.

‘It’s using its Skills with far more efficiency now…’

The Basilisk King’s Skills had all progressed along with its last upgrade. But after that happened, it had also begun to struggle using its Skills.

Sylas, too, suffered as a result. When the Basilisk King was fused with him, how well he could use its Skills was dependent on the Basilisk King’s Mastery level, and because it was too low, Sylas never used Skills like <King’s Bind> or <King’s Shield> in battle, at least not since the Stabilizing Bracelet ran to the end of its Durability.

This was also Sylas’ fault as well. He didn’t focus nearly enough on systematic training for the Basilisk King, and he rarely let it fight battles on its own, so when could the Basilisk King ever have the time to improve its Mastery?

But it seemed that along with leveling up, the Basilisk King’s Mastery had naturally progressed as well.

Sylas wasn’t sure if this was normal or not, but when he was going to ask the Madness Key, he shook his head. He had almost done something foolish.

Anything he needed to understand about his Contract could be done through Insight. Why waste Genes?

‘I see… so the higher Level you are, the easier it is to use Skills. Of course, adjusted by Grade. Higher Intelligence also makes it easier to Master certain Skills as well.

‘But it’s not just that for the Basilisk King. This is more general information.

‘Going from Level 5 to Level 29, the Basilisk King surpassed two demarcating lines… Level 10 and Level 20. Although its Grade hasn’t increased, its Genes have still loosened considerably.’

What surprised Sylas the most was that… The Basilisk King, despite only being an FFF- Grade monster, and “only” Level 29, actually already unlocked Silver Genes.

Sylas didn’t know all the secrets hidden in the Basilisk King’s body, but what was clear to him was that he had only touched the tip of the iceberg.

Namely… the Basilisk King’s Voice of a King Gene Skill had reached a new tier entirely.

[Basilisk King (FFF-)]

[Level: 29]

[Skills: King’s Bind (FFF-); King’s Shift (FFF-); King’s Shield (FFF-); Voice of a King (FFF-)]

[Silver Genes: Voice of a King (F); …]

[Voice of a King (Gene Talent)]

[A Gene Talent capable of cooling the mind and increasing the Effectiveness of Will and Charisma. Your Charisma activates Passively and those around you with weaker Will are pulled into your orbit. Your Skills and stats are more Effective]

The weight of this change couldn’t be underestimated. If Sylas was correct, this Gene Talent had a similar effect to the Gluttony Seed. Meaning, it could increase the strength output of telekinesis as well.

But this was only in part… that was because what it also did was give the Basilisk King a Spark.

Sylas’ Will Spark right now was a strong poison affinity. He could even use it to directly kill people who were too careless. Lauren’s Will Spark seemed to have been that pink lightning that she wielded.

As for the Basilisk King’s…

It was exactly what its title deemed it was.

The Spark of a King.

A Will that could suppress others and rip their power away from them.

Slowly but surely, the Basilisk King was beginning to display its true might.

The library rumbled as the Basilisk King unleashed a savage roar.

Sylas’s steps came to a pause as he stood side by side with his contract.

Its head stood tall and proud, overlooking the abyss that lay before them. Once again, there was a deep passage to the underground.

“In that case, there’s no reason for us to hide ourselves any longer. Today, we kill.”

SSSSSSSSSSS.

A low, rumbling hiss came from the Basilisk King.

It lowered its head and Sylas took a step onto its back before they shot downward.
