Game’s Dogma

Chapter 305: Warring Wastelands

“The East and West servers will be connected to the same Warring Wastelands. Upon killing an enemy from the opposing server, players will be exempted from player-killing penalties and will be granted Merit, which can be used for exchanging items from mysterious Merit merchants.”

Chau Yu sat unfazed in his head seat in Empyreal Spire as he scanned the elites before him. However, he had other things in mind; he had yet to receive Hibiscus’ reply even now.

With his eyes closed, he thought, You short-sighted scoundrels will pay for your arrogance!

“Alliance Master, what should we do now?” someone asked.

“What do you mean by what? Order all players below Level 40 to level up as quickly as possible and refrain from entering the Warring Wastelands! Others, prep up and get ready to leave. Prepare three days’ worth of potions and other rations! If I’m not wrong, there should be nothing in there, so don’t plan on restocking once you enter. I want everyone to gather at the resurrection altar half an hour before the map is released!”

“Boss, what do we do?”

“Get ready to move out,” said Drako Yau concisely.

His companions rolled their eyes at his simple answer, but they all did as instructed.

“Brother?” Florate asked her brother, Hibiscus, who was deep in thought beside her.

Hearing his sister’s call, he shook his head and replied in a light voice, “Send a message on the alliance channel. All players who are Level 40 or above should stock up and gather outside the resurrection altar.”

While the three cities prepared themselves, there was a lone city out in a mysterious land. Unlike Evergrand, Yoda, and Empyreon, it adopted ancient Western architecture and was built along a mountain—steep slopes and dangerous paths, but a unique, domineering atmosphere.

On the mountain’s peak stood a person. Behind him was someone kneeling, almost like his shadow.

“So it’s finally here…” the man whose wavy golden hair fluttered along the gale murmured.

The person kneeling gave no response despite hearing his murmur. All this time, he had never paid heed to the man’s so-called nemesis. He thought, If even this exemplary person has a nemesis… No, it’s impossible. There are no ifs.

The man’s golden hair glittered under the beaming sun, his eyes so deep that they could consume the heavens. A certain emotion was spurring within him and showing on his handsome face—anticipation. He recalled his fight with the spear-wielding man whose face was pixelated, the man who was like a burning flame. He tightened his fists at that thought.

“Mhm…”

“Yes sir.” The kneeling man lowered his head in await of his king’s orders.

“Heed my words. Everyone except subclass players will prepare for war. I need every bit of strength there is.”

“Yes sir!” The man brightened up, then spoke through the alliance channel, “Everyone except subclass players will prepare for war! Fill your item bags with potions, scrolls, food, and anything you’ll need! Let those from the East realise the vast difference between us is like the endless ocean!”

Under Zeus’ command, two other distant cities acted by his orders immediately. Indeed, this was the realm of the divine king.

Here, only one voice mattered, and that was Zeus’ voice.

Here, only one force mattered, and that was Olympus.

Here, only one man mattered, and that was the divine king Zeus!

Time flew by. In a few moments, the resurrection altar was packed with players, though they were clearly separated into two groups. Those lingering at the exterior had poor equipment and seemed weak, while those at the interior ring were fully loaded with items and equipment, ready to roll. As expected, there were far fewer players in the interior ring.

In the interior ring, no one could see through Mask’s fiery red mask. All they could see was the cloak of blood waving vividly behind him. Standing next to and behind him were countless elites: Danting, Zephyrwolf, Idyllic Poet, Greenstone, Sasaki, Dumbgirl, Yim Ho, Windstrider, Man Hing Yau, and many more. Goemon, King-Hit, and Hexen also led their elite members and gathered behind Mask, with the exception of Moonnight, Goemon’s brother.

Drako Yau banned Moonnight from entering the Warring Wastelands. The time had yet to come, he told Goemon, and it would eventually be Moonnight’s time to shine.

A pillar of light suddenly appeared before everyone. Unlike other teleportation arrays, the pillar connected the skies and the earth, unmovable and still as if it had always been present.

“Let’s go.”

Two words were all that were needed. Pre-war speeches were unnecessary; they’d go wherever their king needed them. They’d follow right behind him and heed his call.

Like a demon lord who had control over his subordinates’ lives, the masked man took the first step into the pillar followed by his cloud of blood. Black dots flooded into the pillar like moths to a flame after him.

“Hmm?”

Drako Yau opened his eyes after the wave of dizziness subsided. A desolate wasteland awaited him.

The ground was so dry that it cracked all over, void of any vitality like a struggling tree that had thirsted for water for ages. Even though it finally encountered living beings after so long, it could only greet the visitors with endless barren land and murky grey skies.

It felt as if the heavens had abandoned this place. This, was the Warring Wastelands.

Drako Yau checked his channels, only to realise everything was rendered useless. Everything from friend list, squad channel, to guild channel and alliance channel was disabled. He was all alone in this seemingly dissociated place.

He didn’t plan on sitting there waiting. With his spear in hand, he started walking in a random direction. Several steps later, the ground started shuddering. The cracks opened up and revealed an endless abyss from where a dark crimson scorpion of three metres climbed out. Its two pincers were of a fluorescent green glow, a clear warning of how vicious they were.

Drako Yau wasn’t careless. He pointed his spear forwards and mustered a flame at the tip while a thin layer of ice mist shrouded him. Those were his two new passive skills, Enhanced Fiery Dance and Ice Body.

The scorpion didn’t have the habit of greeting its prey as it sprung right at Drako Yau. It attacked him with a pincer attack from above and below. He calmly advanced instead of retreating and leapt to evade the pincer from below, then thrust his spear onto the pincer as he soared through the air. The light thrust was enough to displace the pincer’s force and propel him towards the scorpion.

The scorpion made a voiceless screech and snapped its pitch-black stinger, a weapon of assassination concealed in darkness, at the incoming man.
