The next day, as Horyu arrived at the Academy, he sensed a shift in the air. Iruka, with his usual stern demeanor, announced the final drill before graduation - a long Taijutsu Tournament. Each student would have a fight every day, and their points would be tallied at the end, affecting their ranking at graduation. Horyu listened intently, his mind already strategizing his approach to this new challenge.

"Rewards are good. AP is Ability Point right? I remember seeing something about that." Horyu muttered as he checked the quest and accepted it. "I have almost no stipends. The money left behind by Horyu's parents is about to run out and the monthly allowance the clan pays is a joke. Although Dungeon is a good source of money, I cannot vanish too often. I need to find a way to get more quests."
The announcement of the final Taijutsu Tournament before graduation by Iruka had sparked a new challenge in his mind. This wasn't just another mundane school activity; it was an opportunity, a stepping stone to greater achievements.
As Iruka outlined the rules, Horyu's sharp mind was already turning, calculating the best approach. He needed to stand out, not just for the sake of the tournament, but to change the narrative around his existence in the academy.
The notification of the new skill 'Study' and the title 'Academy Student' appeared timely. He thought, 'Study, huh? Seems like my days of skimming through textbooks are over. Time to actually use this brain for something other than cynical retorts.'
Despite his usual disdain for academic efforts, Horyu recognized the potential benefits of his new skill. As he listened to Iruka, he mentally activated the 'Study' skill. Information began to settle in his mind more coherently, like pieces of a puzzle finding their rightful place.
His gaze then shifted to the 'Talentless Uchiha' title. 'Talentless, they say? I'll show them talent,' he thought, a sardonic smile playing on his lips. This passive title, a stark reminder of his current standing among his peers and clan, fueled his resolve. He was determined to shed this label, to prove to everyone that the once weak Uchiha Horyu was no more.
The 'Rise of the Phoenix' mission was a perfect blueprint for his ascent. Each objective and subquest seemed tailor-made for his current situation. Horyu knew this was his chance to turn the tides, to rise from the ashes of mediocrity and claim his place as a force to be reckoned with.
'Iruka's Intellectual Challenge' caught his attention first. He had always found Iruka's classes a bit tedious, but now, there was a purpose.
Iruka started the class with a series of complex questions about ninja theory, delving into the intricacies of chakra control and shinobi strategies. The students, most of them eager to impress, shot their hands up, answering with varying degrees of correctness. Horyu, however, remained silent, his gaze sharp, observing, waiting.
He didn’t jump in immediately, understanding that flaunting knowledge too eagerly would only alienate him further. His classmates, already holding him in low regard, would not appreciate being overshadowed by someone they deemed inferior.
As Iruka posed a particularly challenging question about the application of elemental chakra in ninjutsu, the room fell into a hesitant silence. No hand rose this time. Horyu saw his opportunity. He raised his hand, not too quickly, but with enough confidence to catch Iruka’s attention.
“Yes, Horyu?” Iruka asked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
“Elemental chakra can be manipulated in various ways depending on the nature transformation,” Horyu began, his voice calm and clear. “For instance, wind chakra can be compressed to increase its cutting power, while water chakra can be utilized to create mist for obfuscation or manipulation.”
The class turned to him, some with expressions of disbelief. Horyu could almost hear the cogs turning in their heads, 'How did Horyu know that?'
Iruka nodded, impressed. “Very good, Horyu. That is correct.”
As the class continued, Horyu answered more questions, but always with the same strategy: waiting for the right moment, ensuring his answers were not just correct but showcased a depth of understanding. He wasn't here to outshine everyone immediately; he was playing the long game.
Horyu's eyes narrowed as Iruka posed another question, his voice tinged with a challenge. “Can anyone tell me how one can apply chakra flow to enhance weaponry during combat?”
The room again fell into a contemplative hush. This was more technical, delving into the subtleties of ninja combat that most academy students found daunting. Horyu, however, saw it as an intriguing puzzle.
He raised his hand, his expression indifferent yet confident. “Applying chakra to weaponry isn't just about increasing its destructive power,” he started, his voice steady. “It's also about versatility. For example, infusing a kunai with lightning chakra can not only enhance its penatrating ability but also add a paralyzing effect. Similarly, wind chakra can be used to extend the range of a weapon, like creating a gust around a shuriken to alter its trajectory mid-air.”
Iruka's eyebrows raised in acknowledgment. “Impressive, Horyu. That’s an advanced concept, well beyond what's expected at this level.”
Whispers erupted among the classmates, a mixture of astonishment and begrudging respect. Horyu just sat back, his gaze flickering with a hint of amusement. 'This is just the tip of the iceberg,' he thought.
At that moment, the system chimed in his mind.
[System Message: Iruka's Intellectual Challenge - Completed!]
Horyu chuckled inwardly, his thoughts laced with sarcasm. 'Is it really this easy to impress Iruka? Well, I suppose low expectations do make for easier victories.'
The rest of the day passed in a blur. Horyu's answers in class had already begun altering the perceptions around him. Some students looked at him with newfound curiosity, while others, like Sasuke, watched him with annoyance and anger.
