Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Begins
After Robb left, Catelyn was still worried, so she found her uncle Brynden the Blackfish to discuss how to deal with the possible Red Wedding.
Blackfish had already read the mysterious letter and was equally shocked. He didn't quite believe that Walder would use his nephew Edmure's wedding to murder the nobles of the two places, but if he really did that, the consequences would be unimaginable.
He also knew about Catelyn's persuasion of Robb. His idea was that even if he attended the wedding, he should be prepared. Even if nothing happened afterwards, being held accountable by Walder was better than being killed by everyone.
Catelyn was afraid that Robb would not do what she said, so she wanted Blackfish to keep an eye on Robb and not let the secret slip to Roose.
Although Robb did not believe that Walder would murder them, he still had to take necessary precautions and discussed with his trusted generals how to deal with possible murder.
The Twins span both sides of the Green Fork River and consist of two castles connected by a bridge in the middle. It is the only way for the North to enter the South. The Frey family has gradually become rich by collecting bridge tolls. Although they are despised by other nobles and are excluded from the great nobles, they still enjoy doing it.
Although Walder is only a marquis, his family is extremely large. He has seven wives, each one is more fertile than the other, and the other members of the family are not much worse than him. Therefore, the Frey family is called by the nobles as a family that can give birth to an army.
On the day of Edmure's wedding, as they were approaching the Twins, Catelyn's heart began to rise. She glanced at Robb beside her and signaled him to be careful.
The Twins guards were led by Walder's son Dwyn. Seeing Robb bringing a thousand soldiers to the wedding, he asked cautiously, "Bringing so many soldiers to the wedding, is this the sincerity of the North?"
Robb was a little embarrassed by Devin's question, but because his mother threatened to commit suicide, he was forced to accept it.
Fortunately, he had already thought of an excuse: "Tywin's army is on the move, and I'm worried that he will attack me while I'm at the wedding."
"Hmph! The Young Wolf Lord has really thought it through." Devin said sarcastically and let Robb and his nobles in. Of course, the thousand soldiers could only wait outside the city for the wedding to end.
With a wry smile to hide his embarrassment, Robb was escorted into the Twins by a group of guards.
Seeing Robb leading a far greater number of guards than usual, Devin couldn't help but curse again in his heart.
When they entered the wedding hall, candlesticks and delicious food were already set out inside, and musicians played beautiful music. Walder sat in the main seat to welcome Robb and others.
Walder frowned slightly when he saw the number of guards and nobles that Robb had brought with him.
After entering the hall, Catelyn looked carefully at the layout and the Frey family, but found nothing unusual.
After the guests were seated, Robb stood up first to apologize for breaking his engagement. Walder asked Talisa to come forward so that he could take a closer look at who had replaced his daughter as Robb's bride.
"She is really beautiful, and has a nice figure, but it's a pity that she is covered by clothes and I can't see anything. But I believe the curves inside must be very beautiful. It's no wonder that such a beautiful body made King Robb break his oath."
Walder squinted his eyes and admired Talisa, which made her feel uncomfortable. She looked at Robb nervously, and Robb could only signal her to be patient for the time being.
Walder ignored Theresa and continued, "I think our Duke Edmure must be waiting anxiously. You will be able to see your bride soon."
After saying this, he walked down from the main seat, went to the main entrance of the hall, and brought his daughter to Edmure at the table.
After seeing the appearance of Nevad's other daughters in the hall, Edmure became even less confident about his bride's looks and stood there with a bitter face.
Leading his daughter to the main seat, Walder glanced at Edmure, raised his hand to remove the veil of his daughter, revealing a big-eyed beauty. Edmure, who had originally lowered his brows, waited for Walder to remove the veil before slowly raising his head.
When Edmure saw the face of his new wife, his eyes widened instantly. He never expected that Walder had such a beautiful daughter. If he had known this, he would not have strongly opposed this marriage, but would have readily agreed to Robb.
The wedding vows were completed and the wedding banquet officially began. Robb's family and the Frey family sat opposite each other and toasted each other. The atmosphere was very lively and there was still nothing unusual.
"I'm going to go out and pee and then continue drinking!" Caitlin's uncle Blackfish took two gulps of wine, left his seat and walked outside.
When passing by Luce, she accidentally tripped over a stool and fell towards him, but Luce reached out to catch her. Blackfish nodded at him, glanced at Caitlin intentionally or unintentionally, and continued to walk out.
Seeing her uncle Blackfish walk out the door, Caitlin picked up the wine glass and took a big gulp of red wine to suppress the fear in her heart.
The food had already started at the table outside the hall. Black Fish looked outside, walked forward a distance, went into the haystack next to him, looked around to see that there was no one around, took out a flint and lit the dry haystack, then immediately walked back.
"Uncle!"
Black Fish had just walked not far out of the haystack when he suddenly heard a low shout. He stopped and listened for a while but heard no more sound. Thinking he had heard it wrong, he started walking quickly towards the wedding hall.
Arya, hiding behind a cart, was about to call Blackfish again when a group of Frey soldiers came running over from the distance. She didn't know whether the burning haystack in the distance had anything to do with her uncle Blackfish, so she quickly stopped talking.
Arya witnessed the entire process of her father Eddard being beheaded. Just when she impulsively wanted to blame Joffrey, she was forcibly dragged away by the Night's Watch and saved her life.
After some twists and turns, she learned that her uncle Edmure was getting married here, and her mother and brother were also here, so she wanted to go find them.
As Heiyu just walked to the door of the hall, he heard someone outside shouting "fire!". The hall was so noisy that no one could hear the noise outside.
He picked up a red wine glass and a bottle on the table next to him and staggered up to the second floor. Not long after he went up, a sturdy nobleman who was drinking left his seat as if nothing had happened, came to the stairs, looked around, saw that no one was paying attention, and also went up to the second floor.
After Black Fish went upstairs, he gently pushed the doors of several rooms on the second floor, and found that all the doors were closed.
He suddenly broke open a door and rushed in. A scream was heard in the small dark room. Heiyu pulled out a dagger and stabbed towards the sound. The dagger pierced into the flesh, and he pulled it out and stabbed twice. Then he turned around and stabbed another black shadow beside him.
After hearing their companions' screams, the others in the house reacted, but it was too late. The sharp dagger had already cut one of their necks.
The remaining person in the house saw his two companions being killed and ran out in a hurry. As soon as he reached the door, Heiyu stabbed him in the back with a dagger.
When Blackfish went out, he saw the sturdy noble who had just gone upstairs go into another room. Just as he was about to go in, he heard the door of the hall being pushed open, and a Frey soldier rushed in, shouting that there was a fire outside.
Blackfish hurried over to the band that was playing, picked up the bass drum and threw it into the center of the hall.
The sudden change made the hall suddenly quiet, but the silence lasted less than a second before the Northern nobles and guards who were originally sitting in their seats drew out their hidden daggers and stabbed the Frey guest at the same table.
After being stabbed several times in succession, the Frey family members were a little slow to draw their weapons and start fighting back.
