Chapter 54
“Does this even make sense…?”
How could this happen?
I momentarily forgot it was a broadcast and muttered with a blank face.
Half and half. 50-50. I couldn’t hide my surprise at the result being split exactly in half.
An unbelievable situation. It was a completely unreal occurrence, something that could only happen in a novel, unfolding right before my eyes.
You know, life brings all sorts of strange things. I guess this is one of them. It felt like the viewers had coordinated this whole thing…
[What’s going on?]
[Please announce the results!]
[Only you are saying this doesn’t make sense.]
[I’m so craving a honey slap!]
[Wait, what was the result?]
[Did it really end in a tie? LOL]
“Yeah… it’s really a tie.”
As I said that, I showed the screen I was looking at.
The voting result window showing 50% for option 1 and 50% for option 2.
“Is this some kind of site hack? Or did you guys all collude? Exactly half each… how many people voted? 1523 for option 1. The rest voted for 2?”
[What are you saying? LOL]
[How does this even end up being a tie?]
[Wasn’t option 2 better? Why would you vote for option 1?]
[The 1-vote and 2-vote guys have truly united in this kayak broadcast! OMG]
[True unification…]
[Kayak to Congress! Kayak to Congress!]
[Whoa.]
[Make some sense here.]
[The host’s random comments are the funniest part. LOL]
[The Kayak Truman Show entry! LOL]
[Turns out it was a hidden camera all along~]
[It was a hidden camera’s hidden camera~]
[It is live right now! LOL]
[Pulling a scam on Kayak!]
If I think about it calmly, it couldn’t possibly be that. But it was so absurd that I couldn’t help but blurt out something utterly ridiculous.
And so I chatted with the viewers, marveling at how strange this all was, wondering how this could even happen.
[The Kayak Floor Wiper donated 1000 won!]
– So what’s going to happen now? Another vote?
“What do you mean another vote? We just roll with it. If we do another vote, the outcome will change every time. We have to go by the result we got this time.”
I was surprised by the tie, but decided to look at it positively.
I guess it means the viewers thought it was that close too. It was hard for anyone to really believe one side was clearly superior.
It must have been a close contest, considering it was hard to say anyone was clearly superior.
In any case, the viewers’ votes were merely for reference. No matter what the outcome was, the final decision rested on me.
Seeing the results turn out this way, I felt a sense of relief. If there had been a slanted result, I would have been subtly concerned while making my decision.
Thus, we’re back to square one.
Between the two, who should I choose? The Shiasia from the gallery or the fan-tube operator who’s already secretly gathering subscribers?
[It’s a fundamental question, haha. They’ve been making highlights since the days when viewer numbers were low.]
[I should absorb the subscribers from the fan-tube, right? The starting points are different, you know?]
[Tradition vs. rising powerhouse…it’s not an easy choice.]
[Galdcup entrance, whoa!]
[If you’re from the gallery, let’s support option 1!]
[I was blocked by the fundamental, so I went with option 2.]
[Can’t I just choose both? It’s a shame to waste such talents.]
[Let’s go for the K-Tube two barracks~]
[Haven’t even opened V-Tube yet, what’s with this two barracks?]
[The greatest tool, Riri, donated 1000 won!]
– Since it’s come to this, let’s do a personality test, haha. There have been a lot of issues with editors lately.
I’ve heard a similar story. Was it the Dekal from the semifinals? His editor was being a pest in other female streamers’ chats and got fired when things blew up.
Thanks to that, I heard Dekal’s V-Tube hasn’t been running for a month now.
To avoid such incidents, I need to select people carefully. In that light, the viewers’ seemingly absurd suggestion for a personality test had its merits.
A personality test… a personality test…
However, demanding a test from editor candidates feels quite awkward. This isn’t a corporate job interview, after all. I can’t just say, “Do a personality test and submit the results!”
And anyway, if someone is inclined to throw in some lies among the questions, the results will look good by default. This makes it quite unreliable.
Instead of that… wouldn’t it be better to meet directly and judge?
By meeting face-to-face and having a conversation, I could get a decent sense of who this person is and whether they could cause any issues.
“The personality test is off… Meeting in person to decide wouldn’t be a bad idea.”
“That’s not so bad.”
[Huh?]
[What what what what?]
[Meeting? Meeting? Meeting? Meeting? Meeting? Meeting? Meeting?]
[What kind of person do you think you’re meeting? The world is pretty sketchy these days;]
[The soup is mad ㅋㅋ]
[Oh ㅋㅋ I passed the first document screening, so it’s a face-to-face interview for the second round.]
[Seeing a horde of sweet boyfriends showing up, I guess this is right, yeah.]
[My horns hurt….]
Is this what collective intelligence feels like? I feel like I’ve grasped a clue to a problem that I only thought was complex. It’s definitely much better than worrying about it alone.
I can just meet them both and decide based on who I like more.
Having finished my thoughts, I nodded and opened my mouth.
“Well then, that’s it for today’s broadcast. During the break, I’ll chat with the editor candidates and decide who I’ll work with before letting you know next time. Talking with you all helped me organize my thoughts a lot, thank you.”
[No way]
[Are you actually leaving like this? For real?]
[Is she out of her mind?]
[Just leaving after saying what she needed to say? ㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
[Haven’t seen you in a while, at least stay a bit longer…]
[You guys harassed her and made fun of her, that’s why. ㅡㅡ]
[The kayak that lost its original intention… This can’t be stopped.]
[You’ll be live tomorrow too, right? If you don’t stream tomorrow, it’ll be twice a week for this week.]
[Don’t go don’t go don’t go don’t go don’t go don’t go.]
[After that, the kayak never returned, and for the viewers, a mysterious video…]
[Older sister ㅠㅠ it’s dangerous to meet just anyone!]
As usual, I ended the stream, leaving behind the viewers who were trying to hold me back.

“What, what? Meeting? You’re really going to meet in person?”
Meanwhile, two editor candidates who were watching Kayak’s broadcast felt a small alarm go off.
It was an unexpected meeting. Usually, they wouldn’t arrange direct meetings just to pick an editor.
It was because of concerns regarding personal safety, hassle, and annoyance.
Even if they did meet, they would first be employed, and after spending some time getting to know each other, the meeting would happen.
Before that, it was just a relationship where they shared work remotely online.
Deciding to meet someone right from the hiring process is something only large corporations, with a different scale, would do.
If Kayak was willing to put up with that hassle to select someone, it was safe to say she was serious about VTubing.
As Zhuge Liang set forth on his northern expedition, Kayak, in her own way, also expressed her intentions.
The CEO’s serious commitment to VTube created a favorable environment for the editor candidates, but their thoughts didn’t quite stretch that far.
Thanks to Kayak’s bombshell statement about wanting to meet in person, the pressure was on, and it was like a fire had suddenly ignited beneath them.
“What should I do? What do I do, what do I do….”
Yusia fidgeted, torn by a complex mix of emotions.
As a fan of Kayak, meeting her in person was great — under normal circumstances, she would have welcomed it with open arms. It wasn’t all that different from a personal fan meeting.
But this was an interview. An interview for selecting an editor.
Between Yusia and the other candidate running the Kayak fan channel, one of them would fail, and only one would get to work with her.
Although Kayak didn’t explicitly say it, that didn’t lessen the meaning behind it, and Yusia couldn’t hide her nervousness.
It wasn’t just Yusia who felt this way; the other candidate, the person running the noon Kayak fan channel, felt it too.
“Huuh….”
The man, Kim Jae-jun, stood before the mirror with a tense expression.
He then began fiddling with his messy hair, flipping it left and right as he inspected himself repeatedly.
On his bed lay a formal shirt he had dug out of the closet after a long time. Picking it up, he paused, putting it on and taking it off, as if contemplating something.
“Uncle, what are you doing?”
“Si Hyun, your uncle’s busy. Let’s hang out later.”
“No, what are you doing? You’ve been in front of the mirror forever.”
As his cute but increasingly cheeky niece puffed her cheeks, Kim Jae-jun stopped flipping his hair and answered.
“I have to go to an interview. So I’m trying it on.”
“Whaaaat, did you get a job?”
“Not yet, but I wish I did.”
That was Kim Jae-jun’s honest feelings. The reason he had been running the fan channel so earnestly was his deep fandom.
There would be nothing better than working alongside someone he had always liked.
Even amidst his nerves, Kim Jae-jun was resolved to succeed, just like Si Hyun.
So, the two of them awaited their meeting with Kayak as time ticked by.
Finally, the day of the showdown had arrived.
