Chapter 115- Good terms
Naoko had been working part-time for a while now. His father has always been a useless fellow who likes nothing more than to drink and beat the people on whom he can use his strength.
In the past, Naoko used to do several works a day to lessen the burden on his mother and to repay the debt. However, things have changed recently.
The day, Naoko was taken away and Minoru came to rescue him, he also did another favor that Naoko could never forget. Minoru beat senses in his old man and now, Naoko's father works as a delivery man and earns enough to support the family.
His mother also didn't have to go out to work since the man of the house finally realized his duties. However, Naoko still insisted on keeping on working to afford his expenses to a decent extent. And there was a risk of what if the old man suddenly reentered his loser phase and abandoned his duties.
That's why he was currently working in a family restaurant as a waiter. The pay was good and because of his work experience, he was easily given the job.
One of these days, when he was working in the restaurant, he found a family walking in. Naoko's eyes slightly widened to see him here.
For a moment he thought that he was here since Naoko worked here. However, he soon brushed off that assumption considering Naoko never told anyone about his workplace and most importantly, Minoru would have never come here if he had known.
However, just because of that realization was Naoko going to miss out on this golden opportunity?
"Wait." As he saw his fellow waiter moving towards their table, Naoko stopped him
"Hmm? What happened?" The tall college student raised his brows in questioning.
"Let me take their order. Why don't you chat with Cassy? She seems to be free right now." Hearing his words, the college boy turned to look at the blond girl sitting at the counter.
A grin stretched the older one's lips before he slammed the small notebook in Naoko's hand and dashed toward the girl.
Naoko smirked before he fixed his tie and hair. Once he ensured that he was looking good, he finally made an appearance,
"What would you like to have?"
"Naoko?!" His reaction was just as Naoko expected. Minoru got up and slammed his hand on the table with an astonished look.
Cute.
"Naoko-kun...long time. Are you working here?" The lady asked with a gentle smile on her face as she pulled her son back on the seat.
Shiori giggled at her brother's antics and Kosuke just gave a brief look of surprise.
"Ah yes. I get paid well here." Naoko was once Minoru's best friend so there was no surprise that he was familiar with his family.
The one he closely glanced at was Shiori. She has become quite beautiful—something that made Naoko's heart heavy. He was aware that Minoru was an adopted child and because of that Naoko looked at Shiori as a potential rival.
"Hey...stop staring at my Nee-san." Suddenly Minoru got up and shielded his sister with his arms spread.
'If I can I would stare at you instead the whole day' Naoko mumbled inwardly before apologizing,
"I apologize for my rudeness."
Seeing him apologize, Mira shook her head in her dramatic son's direction.
Minoru glared at him—much to Naoko's amusement—before he sat down.
"Naoko-kun, do you have anything you would like to suggest?" The older man asked him before Naoko nodded and diligently listed some dish names.
The family looked intrigued, and for a moment, Minoru's stern expression slipped but he soon regained his cautious glare and kept it constant on Naoko.
Ugh... has he always been this adorable? Naoko wondered.
"Okay then, we would like to have the sushi you suggested, two black teas, one milk coffee, and..." Turning his eyes toward Minoru, Kosuke asked, "What would you like to drink."
"Soda!"
"Orange juice is it." Minoru's preference was ruled out instantly by Naoko who didn't think twice before jotting down orange juice instead of cola.
"Hey..." Minoru frowned but Mira interrupted, "Good call, soda isn't good for health." Mira glared at her son, who crossed his arms and looked out of the window—clearly not pleased with the child-like treatment he was facing.
Kosuke chuckled at the display while Shiori secretly sympathized with her brother. But the lady's words were the ultimate command so no one denied her.
Naoko briefly smirked in Minoru's direction, which the latter saw in reflection.
Soon Naoko walked away and the family returned to their chatting regarding the trip.
Since the table wasn't too far away from the counter, Naoko also heard fleetingly about the trip.
'Onsen huh...' As he passed the note to the chef he leaned his back on the counter and thought about a solo trip.
*******
Minoru's displeasure was soon deflated once he began to chat with his family. Giggles and gossip continued as he soon forgot about the small exchange with Naoko.
Seriously, if Minoru had known that Naoko worked here, then he would have convinced his family to order food at home. Truly unlucky of him.
"So Minoru... are you now on good terms with Naoko?" His mother asked with a curious expression. Naturally, when Naoko stopped coming over, his family realized that the two had fought.
Minoru snorted at that before responding, "In his dreams. That guy isn't worthy to be my friend anymore."
Mira chuckled hearing that and this time Shiori chimed in, "He seems to be a good kid. If possible forgive him already, Minoru."
Minoru didn't say anything to that but considering their recent conversation, he wasn't as angry with Naoko anymore.
"Ugh...nature's call." Suddenly Minoru got up and asked his mother to give him space.
He rushed out of the table and without much trouble, found the urinal.
Taking a cubicle he emptied his bladder with a satisfied expression on his face. Once done, he walked out and after washing and drying his hands, he stepped out of the washroom.
He was about to return to the table when suddenly a hand pulled him inside the staff-only room and the person pressed him against the closed door.
Minoru gritted his teeth in annoyance and was about to punch the person—but seeing the familiar shade of eyes looking at him he momentarily halted.
"What do you want from me now?"
Naoko smiled at the display before he asked Minoru, "I want to confess something today."
