Chapter 83: Encounter
Xiang Ning and Fang Rou acted quickly, arriving at the source of the scream in a minute. It was a small village with only a few houses standing. Most of the buildings had already collapsed.
The pair hid in the rubble to observe. There was a bonfire and a team of students not far away. Xiang Ning frowned.
Fang Rou saw it, too. The team was surrounded by more than ten beasts. They must have been attracted by the fire. What were they thinking? Why would they start a fire in an open space? Without any cover, weren’t they just announcing their location to every beast?
One of the students was clutching his arm, protected by three others. One of them held him up. Although there wasn’t much light left, Xiang Ning could still see when he squinted. “His arm is broken!” he gasped.
The injured student had a broken arm with a wound that looked like it was from a beast, with blood still gushing out. He looked like he was about to collapse from blood loss. The blood riled the beasts up, though they were in no hurry to attack. Instead, they chose to wait for their prey to bleed out, waiting in terrifying silence. Although the team had called for help, rescue could only arrive in at least eight more minutes!
“Leader, what do we do now? We can’t stop more than ten beasts!”
“I already called for help. Stay strong, the instructor would never abandon us!”
There was one girl clad in gray combat attire, which was tattered all over. “I’m scared.” She had never seen a formation like this before. The beasts had ambushed them, instantly surrounding the team. She felt suffocated by the intimidating aura, nearly collapsing in shock.
Xiang Ning observed the beasts, his pupils constricting the moment he saw a blood-colored silhouette. “It’s a tier two, one-star Shadowblood Hound!” The other beasts weren’t a problem. All he had to do was rush forward with Fang Rou and work with the team to kill the tier one beasts. But the tier two Shadowblood Hound made him hesitate. However, there wasn’t much time for hesitation. The injured student could no longer stand properly and the beasts were growing restless.
“What do we do now? Should we save them?!” Xiang Ning was internally struggling. In the past, he had only cared for his sister and ignored anything that was irrelevant to him. However, he felt pressured when he saw members of his own race about to die in the jaws of beasts.A second later, he tightly clenched his sword and turned to Fang Rou. “Are you scared?”
“I’m the daughter of the founder of Thunder Dojo! Why would I be afraid?” Fang Rou understood when she heard him. He was going to intervene!
“Alright, I’ll deal with the tier two beast. Be careful!” He quickly dashed out, crouching, while the two blades by his side began vibrating. Tier one, seven-star mental power along with two blades were enough to kill a tier one, nine-star beast.
Fang Rou was so mad she almost pulled him back. That was a tier two beast! How could he just dash out like that? How could he pile everything on himself? She had wanted to deal with it herself, because she had a trick up her sleeve. As the Lady of the Thunder Dojo, how could she not have a set of armor? A tier two beast couldn’t easily break through armor, and her strength would be greatly increased. But now that Xiang Ning had gotten to it first, she didn’t say a word and dashed forward as well, pinching his waist hard.
Xiang Ning clenched his teeth in pain. As if from the pain of the pinch, his two blades flew out so quickly they scared Fang Rou. She wouldn’t have thought much of one blade, but there were two! No ordinary tier one cultivator could achieve such speed and power with two blades!
Whoosh!
The beasts pricked their ears when they heard the blades, instinctively sensing danger. Even though they could react, it was still not quick enough! In a second, the blades had already pierced through two of the more annoying targets—Night Cats. Ten thousand more dollars were added to their account.
The beasts were stunned for a second, seeing their comrades fall for seemingly no reason. In that second, Xiang Ning saw another opportunity to kill.
Xiang Ning killed a total of four beasts before they saw him. The tier two Shadowblood Hound was the first to come to its senses, roaring in anger. The rest of the beasts also woke, infuriated.
He realized that all of the attention was now on him. Xiang Ning and Fang Rou were furious—the students did not help out, as if they were just bystanders.
“What are you looking at! Kill! I’ll deal with the Shadowblood Hound!” roared Xiang Ning.
The team came to their senses, but somehow, only one person leapt up to fight the closest beast. The Shadowblood Hound prepared to pounce on the five-man team.
However, when Xiang Ning charged at it, the hound merely stared in surprise.
It then turned manic because of how much vitality it smelled on Xiang Ning’s body. This kid was way more nutritious than the five before him! The claws that had been poised to pounce on the team were hastily turned to Xiang Ning.
He showed no signs of weakness. With Fang Rou by his side, he ignored the rest and charged ahead, directly targeting the hound. No opening monologues were needed, though the beast, as beasts always did, unleashed a long howl.
Xiang Ning was prepared to fight with his life on the line, but other than one person from the trapped team, the rest seemed to only be waiting. None of them moved. They only had a cunning twinkle in their eye. Xiang Ning shook his head, realizing that his kindness had been taken advantage of.
