Chapter 81: Monster
Within Fortress Three, several powerful men were watching to see how their students were faring.
“Hehehe, Headmaster Qi, you have some prodigies in your school. Look at what Xiang Ning is doing, is he becoming a mud monkey?” Wu Zhishen was amused when he watched Xiang Ning exit the tree hole.
Qi Jiuming was also exasperated by how his student looked. If Xiang Ning were to smile, all they would be able to see would be his teeth.
“Hmmph, don’t you know? This is the most effective method to cover up one’s scent, even tricking the Bushy-Tailed Mosquitos. Didn’t you see what happened when your idiotic students attacked them? How dare you talk about mine?” Qi Jiuming didn’t back down; those were his students after all. “Also, don’t think I forgot how your students thought the mosquito nest was a beehive! Were they looking for honey? All they got were mosquitos!”
Wu Zhishen’s mouth twitched, offended by the remark. The student who stabbed the nest was currently in the fortress’ medical bay for treatment.
He was speechless, so he turned to watch the screen with a raised eyebrow. “I think your student’s quite bold. Why don’t I send people over to pick up his body when he’s done?”
All the other people turned to the screen when they heard that.
Qi Jiuming’s cheek twitched, because Xiang Ning was holding a smoldering torch at the mouth of the nest.
“Hahaha, so this is the smart student you were talking about? He must be insane to provoke the mosquitos like that! Does he think they’ll become weaker like regular insects? This is going to be chaos!” laughed Wu Zhishen.
The rest of the headmasters smiled bitterly in exasperation. They didn’t know whether to cry or laugh. Smoking these mosquitos was just the best way to provoke them.“I have to say this: your students are geniuses!” Wu Zhishen was delighted at the opportunity to laugh at Qi Jiuming as payback for the embarrassment he had endured.
There was one person who didn’t speak. His eyes were glued to the screen as the events unfolded.
The rest of the people wanted to watch their own students, but Xiang Ning had caught their interest, too. The more observant ones saw Lei Zhongyuan’s expression, then turned their attention to the screen. What they saw shocked them.
This was insanity. Xiang Ning was mercilessly killing Bushy-Tailed Mosquitos with his two throwing knives, and the mosquitoes did not swarm out of the hole in the hundreds, as expected, only two to three at a time. That was advantageous to him, whose telekinesis was beneficial there.
Lei Zhongyuan grew suspicious. “Since when did this kid attain telekinesis?” His eyes were glued to the screen.
Usually, only a throwing knife controlled by a tier one, four-star spiritual cultivator could inflict damage, and they could only manipulate one object at a time. But not only could Xiang Ning control two knives, he could inflict damage beyond the average spiritual cultivator with them.
It reminded Lei Zhongyuan of telekinesis, which was a much rarer skill than the average martial art. It was worth more than ten times the common skill.
“Hahaha, Headmaster Wu, my student does not need to prove himself to anyone. The greatest minds shine the brightest. Don’t you think he’s much better than your students, who thought the mosquitos were bees?” Qi Jiuming would never miss this chance to poke him!
“It’s too early to celebrate. While he’s at an advantage, he’s still working alone. See, a few mosquitos got away! I think it’s best we send reinforcements. He’s a good kid, after all,” said another headmaster.
Lei Zhongyuan wordlessly nodded. The soldier next to him immediately issued the command to send reinforcements to the area. They would wait for instructions first, only swooping in to the rescue if the situation turned south!
......
Xiang Ning, the main character, wasn’t aware of the powerful men watching him. He was enjoying himself because he had accumulated more than three thousand Fury Points. Although he missed a few with his knives, he quickly slashed them to pieces with his sword. To be honest, it was still energy-consuming. It had been about eight minutes since he started and he’d already eaten ten pills, yet the rate the mosquitos fled their nest showed no signs of slowing down. It was growing to be a problem.
Perhaps he had made a mistake.
He tossed his fire torch into a pre-prepared water puddle and quickly left. A tier one, nine-star martial artist like him could still be fast enough to put a distance between himself and the mosquitoes. When he passed a swamp, he rolled around in the mud to mask his body temperature again and scurried into the bushes.
“I mustn't force a fight against the mosquitos!” Xiang Ning clearly knew he couldn’t fight a hundred Bushy-Tailed Mosquitos without getting injured. While he had confidence in killing some of them with his sword, the thought of Fang Rou worrying about him changed his mind, settling him down.
He spent all the Fury Points he had on advancing his mental power to tier one, seven-star, as well as a few rounds of raffles to obtain four pills. His throwing knives, which previously flew at a quarter of the speed of sound, now flew at a third of the speed of sound. They covered a hundred meters per second, which was enough to beat the mosquitos!
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! The cold blades glinted in the evening light, mercilessly killing mosquitos. He was already satisfied with this fight; if it dragged on any longer, he worried something might happen to the rest of his team.
“A monster! He’s a monster! His weapon control is impressive! If he had a set of spiritual armor, he could’ve decimated the nest!” the headmaster of the fifth-ranked school in Marsh City, sitting next to Hanwu Academy’s headmaster, said. His school was built by the Chinese government, making it different from Hanwu and Qiling Academies. It was a public school.
“This boy is indeed a rare prodigy, though he’s still not as strong as the one from Hanwu,” said the headmaster of the third-ranked school.
“But after this massacre, he bumped his team up to the tenth place. Let me check which school was bumped off the list… uh… Hanwu Academy.”
