Chapter 73: Despicable
Initially, Zhang Hongyu was cautious of Xiang Ning because he was too strong. His original plan had been to work together with his team and loot their prizes. It wasn’t much, but he was satisfied as long as he could hinder him in any way.
However, now Xiang Ning was incapacitated and Zhang Hongyu's confidence ballooned up. His squad was at least tier one, four-star and above, so would they be afraid of his squad without the leader? But to think that Xiang Ning had been fortunate enough to find a safe house. He had initially thought that he would die in the wilderness because of his refusal to give up and return to the fortress.
Zhang Hongyu was feeling disgruntled, but then he saw Xiang Ning’s squad members cleaning up the surrounding ferocious beasts and sensed an opportunity. He had more members than Xiang Ning, and their strengths were almost equally matched. This was the perfect chance.
As such, they cornered Xiang Ning’s squad.
“Zhang Hongyu, I’ve already told you I’m not interested, can you stop harassing me?” Fang Rou coldly sneered. She hated men like him. Just because a man doesn’t give up, it doesn’t mean that a girl would finally accept him.
Most of the time they were only humiliating themselves, and Zhang Hongyu was a perfect example.
“Fang Rou, I’ve treated you so earnestly. Just give me a chance and I’ll show you a different side of me.” Zhang Hongyu was still trying to woo her.
Fang Rou was disgusted; Zhang Hongyu’s facade didn’t fool her.
Li Zimo’s brow furrowed as he thought about how to escape. They were short on people and couldn’t afford to enter a confrontation. While the rules explicitly say that it was forbidden to hurt another squad, the instructors would likely turn a blind eye if there weren’t any serious injuries.
“Fang Rou, Liu Ruoxue, let’s go. Since they want to take all the beasts for themselves, let them.” He turned to leave.Zhang Hongyu immediately snarled, “Leave? Do you think you can just leave whenever you want? Hand over everything you have right now. Except you, Fang Rou.”
Li Zimo was angered. “What? You think I’m afraid of you?”
“Li Zimo, stop acting tough. This is the wilderness, where power is everything. You should know that.” Zhang Hongyu coldly smiled. If they were within the city, he would still give Li Zimo some face since they were from influential families. But now they were alone in the wilderness. Within the city, everyone needs to follow the laws, so he wasn’t afraid of any retaliation.
Li Zimo steeled himself as Fang Rou drew her sword.
Just then, someone coughed. “Here I was, thinking about who’d come to see us. So it’s you.”
“Hm? Good! So you’ve decided to show yourself,” Zhang Hongyu laughed.
“A bit cocky, aren’t you? But I like it.” Xiang Ning held his iridium sword and walked forward.
“What’re you doing?” Zhang Hongyu took a few steps back. But then he realized that Xiang Ning was just bluffing. He had been injured badly in a previous fight, leaving nothing to be afraid of.
Xiang Ning took out his communication device and asked a simple question: “We’re fine as long as we don’t cripple them, right?”
Everyone was perplexed. Who had he contacted? And what kind of question was that?
“Oh, alright.” Xiang Ning hung up and Zhang Hongyu felt that something wasn’t right.
“Don't worry, I was just thinking of letting you remember that night. But it seems that we don’t have that chance. I just asked the instructor and he said if other squads tried to steal our beasts, it's fine to fight against them, as long as no one dies and we ensure that the medics will be able to retrieve a live body.”
The rules were yet to be perfected, and the special class had just been established. The rules would slowly be explored and expanded, but at the very least, students shouldn’t attack another student or attract a beast to attack other squads.
Everyone there was talented, but if you decided to steal someone else’s prey, you should prepare for the consequences as well. If the rules didn’t allow retaliation, then didn’t that mean they could just use the rules as they wished?
“Xiang Ning, you’re injured! Don’t get cocky!” Zhang Hongyu immediately realized that their fight was completely legitimate.
He was excited; he could finally fight against Xiang Ning without breaking any rules. He had yearned to do the same thing to Xiang Ning by hanging and beating him up, just as he’d done to him.
“Hahaha.” Xiang Ning gripped his iridium sword. “Who said I can’t fight you just because I’m injured?” As he said that, he immediately rushed forward, giving others no time to react.
“Triple Slash!” he shouted as he brought his sword down diagonally. He held back, but his attack was still very strong.
Zhang Hongyu blocked the attack and shouted, “Everyone attack!”
Xiang Ning was the one who attacked them first. To them, this was self-defense! Thus, they could retaliate as much as they want.
Zhang Hongyu found his reason to attack as his gaze was fiercely locked on to Xiang Ning. “You should’ve just continued sleeping, but now you’re dead! I’m gonna turn you into a vegetable!”
“You should just quietly lie down!” Xiang Ning retorted. Was a mere tier one, six-star weakling really daring to defy him?
“Roaring Tiger Armor!” Zhang Hongyu immediately equipped his armor, much to Xiang Ning’s envy. But now he could go all out without worrying about severely injuring him.
“Let’s have a proper bloodbath!” Zhang Hongyu roared. Now that Xiang Ning was injured, this was a unique opportunity; how could he let it go?
“Come!” Xiang Ning answered. Just as Zhang Hongyu raised his foot, two throwing knives hit his leg. While they didn’t injure him, thanks to his armor, he still fell due to the impact.
“Fuck!” blurted Zhang Hongyu.
Before he could get up, a heavy weight crushed him back into the earth as Xiang Ning pummeled his face.
“Despicable! Unforgivable! What happened to fighting properly?!”

“What are you talking about? Am I not properly beating the shit out of you right now?” Xiang Ning continued his onslaught.
Everyone was silenced by his proclamation. They had already thought Zhang Hongyu was someone despicable, but to think there was another person who was even more so.
