CHAPTER 11: A WALK WITH DAD I
[PRESENT]
Arlo raised his hand prompting Arthur to stop his storytelling.
"I have a class very soon, so I need to take my leave."
"Huh?"
Arthur was left speechless. He was just about to get to the interesting part of the story, yet he was cut off like that. If the boy left, to whom was he supposed to tell the story? His wife?
Shaking his head lightly, he responded to his son:
"Alright. You can head off. Be sure to show them whose son you are," Arthur grinned proudly as he gave his son a big thumbs up.
Rita on the other hand nudged her husband at his side lightly with her elbow as she chastised him with her silent glare.
"Okay," Arlo didn't seem concerned with what his Dad said.
He moved closer to his mom and gave her a long-sounding peck on her cheek.
"Love you, Mum," he whispered to her before running off, not even bothering to wait for her reply.
Rita felt her heart blossom with warmth. She felt so proud to have such a wonderful child.
"He didn't even say goodbye to me. Why does it feel like he is getting more and more distant from me by the day?" Arthur grumbled from the side.
Rita stood up and rubbed her husband's hair as she comforted him lovingly.
"You know that is not true. I can tell that boy is afraid of not meeting your expectations."
"But I didn't demand anything from him. The word super genius fails to define his talent. I his father, is known as the strongest, but when my talent is compared to his, it is like the distance between heaven and earth."
"Haha. However, he doesn't know that dear. I believe he will open up to you soon. Just be patient." Rita planted a kiss on his head and continued "Now stop being a child and go after him."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah. Didn't you say you want to meet Blacksmith Drake today? Why don't you follow him back then? Besides, I still have some chores to finish at home, but before that, I have to clean up here."
"Hmm."
His wife did have a point, so he readily agreed to what she said.
He stood up, dusted himself, and hugged his wife as he planted his own kiss on her head this time.
"See you at home dear."
"Hmm..."
Rita gave a satisfied moan as her response.
Feeling the close warmth she felt disappear, Rita could not help but feel at a loss.
….
Arlo ran to the village. Deciding this was a good opportunity to train, he closed his eyes as he felt the Ki in the surroundings.
Having felt the surrounding Ki, he summoned it into his legs allowing his speed to be further enhanced.
*Whoosh!*
The wind brushed past him as he forcefully resisted the pressure. He regulated his breathing according to the technique taught to him by his father three years ago to channel the surrounding Ki.
When his thought came to his father, he could not help but feel bad.
He knew he was being unfair to his Dad, yet he couldn't help it.
Generally, 'Innate Traits' are awakened at the age of five. Geniuses could even awaken theirs at the age of three, yet here he was about to turn eight in less than two months and he hadn't yet awakened his innate trait.
All his mates had already awakened long ago and could now wield mana freely but he still could not.
How could he not feel ashamed?
How could he not feel like he failed his father? Especially after knowing that he was strongest in the village.
"How pathetic," he muttered sadly.
"What is pathetic?"
"Heok!"
Arlo almost fell from fright when his father abruptly appeared beside him.
"Dad? What are you doing here?"
"I am also heading to the village so I decided to tag along."
"Oh!"
After a short period of awkward silence.
"Arlo, I am sure you think am the strongest in this village but you cannot even phantom how far off you are from the truth. I may not look it but I am actually a legendary character. I am so strong that the world tried to get rid of me several times when I was still in my budding stages."
'Huh? How narcissistic!' Arlo grumbled inwardly.
"Tsk."
"Haha!" Hearing his son's response, Arthur simply gave a dry chuckle.
As they sped off together, Arthur could not help but look at his son as he put on a very serious expression.
"However, unlike me who had to work hard to get to where I am today, you my son are so talented that with little to no effort, it is already a guarantee that you will far surpass me. There is no limit to your talent. Don't worry, when you turn eight, you will realize how awesome you are."
Arlo was unconcerned about his words at the beginning, as his dad had always repeated the same thing to him all the time, but when he heard the last part of his words, he could not help but stop as his legs formed deep lines on the ground due to his abrupt movement.
"What?"
"Are you saying I will awaken when I turn eight?"
"Yeah."
"But why?"
"That is a secret."
Arlo's brows furrowed deeply as he didn't expect such a reply.
Arthur came closer to his son, lowered his body, and placed his head on his son's head, "Don't worry, you will find out eventually. I trust you son, but still, I hope you won't let the great power you possess control you."
"Besides, genius or not, I will always be proud of you, son."
Seeing the honest gaze of his father, Arlo could not help but relent.
He drew closer to his Dad and hugged him.
"I won't disappoint you, Dad." Arthur could not help but give a satisfied smile. As his thoughts arrived at this point, he pulled away from his son and asked him:
"Will you resume training with me?"
"Huh?"
Surprised, he didn't know how to reply to his dad, but after giving it a thought he answered:
"I will wait until after I have awakened."
"..."
After a short silence, Arthur gave a small smile.
"Alright, let's continue on our way."
