Exorcist of the American Nightmares

Chapter 312: Chapter 312: Making an Appearance

Once a beast sets its sights on you, there's always a bone-chilling sensation.

Hearing the booming explosion, Xili and her companions acted decisively, knowing that the holy light grenade could at best delay their pursuer for just a second.

The tingling sensation at their backs never faded.

"Let's go!"

Monk Xavier gritted his teeth and suddenly stopped. Turning around, he gripped a large knight's sword in both hands, facing the demon that had just leapt into the air, soaring three to four meters high, imposing a powerful oppressive force.

"I'll hold it off!"

Without looking back, Monk Xavier breathed out, and layers of armor made entirely of holy power materialized on him.

Soft armor over chain mail.

Chain mail over plate armor.

Plate armor covered with a thin cloak.

This was the true ensemble of a knight of the holy temple.

With the intervention of holy power, the church's knights were almost beyond conventional materials.

A full suit of heavy armor in reality would weigh at least fifty to sixty kilograms, a significant burden, but holy power-formed full armor allowed church knights to maintain the same level of defense and damage potential while also being agile.

Monk Xavier lowered the holy power-formed visor, staring at the demon, which had just landed, kicking up a cloud of dust.

His hands tightened around the knight's sword, which could be wielded with one or both hands, ready to charge and take the initiative in combat.

Just as he was about to confront the demon.

A familiar voice rang in his ears.

"I'll assist you, Monk Xavier." Xili had already set up two M249 light machine guns.

And Erin pulled out a holy light grenade and hurled it with all her might at the demon in front of them.

Monk Xavier saw the holy light grenade whizz past his ear, flying towards the dust-filled air ahead.

"Good!" Monk Xavier's mouth twitched upward, but his steps did not stop.

"Not running?"

A gust of wind cleared the dust, revealing the demon's oppressive form.

It stepped out of the crater, its voice a mix of human and beast, falling heavily,

"Then I'll play along."

As the words fell, the demon swung its right claw, ready to swat the tiny object in front of it.

At that moment, the rapid gunfire erupted.

Xili opened fire, the M249 light machine guns spitting out one explosive airburst after another.

One holy water bullet after another exploded against the massive chest of the demon, sparking clusters of sparks.

The demon should have felt nothing, but it experienced a strong burning sensation in its chest, seemingly affecting its recovery.

Caught off guard, it grabbed the holy light grenade, letting it explode in a burst of light in its hand, then with its left hand wiped its chest where the burning sensation spread, followed by a burst of rage.

"Holy water!"

It roared, charging through the barrage towards the pesky humans.

But the pain throughout its body made it change direction mid-charge, moving swiftly.

So swiftly, in fact, that the barrage of bullets fell behind, hitting nothing but air.

"Erin!"

Feeling his ammunition running low, Xili shouted.

"Switch!"

Erin stepped forward, dual-wielding HK416 automatic rifles, her expression grave as she watched the demon, now just a blur of motion, her eyes shining with a golden light.

She remembered the bishop's words, her heritage as the sole descendant of a saint, her eyes' potential power.

"Besides your eyes, you have clairvoyant abilities.

Clairvoyance varies widely, affecting more than just sight but by using this ability, you can bridge distances, construct and draw in your mind, seeing everything.

And you seem quite adept with firearms, Erin."

The bishop's voice echoed in her mind as Erin saw the demon slow down, its movement becoming clear as day.

Then, with eyes aglow with golden light, Erin fired.

Bang, bang, bang! Xili's specially made holy water bullets streamed from the HK416.

Gunfire filled the air, along with the demon's roars of anger.

Because it had never expected that a human could hit it at such speed.

No matter where it moved, its body continued to burst into sparks.

It didn't need to look or think to know what condition its chest and arms, or any part that sparked, were in.

The detestable holy water was like a festering wound, its burning sensation mingling with its regenerative capabilities, a constant battle.

This caused it pain.

The demon's eyes, now a fiery red, quickly moved past the knight to focus on the continuously firing woman.

"Death wish!"

Its massive right claw swept through the air, a dark energy gathering and bursting forth in the shape of a claw strike aimed at Erin.

But it found, infuriatingly, that the damned knight had positioned himself in front.

Monk Xavier stood in front of Erin

, exhaling softly, his sword raised to meet the swiftly approaching black claw strike.

A layer of holy power spread along the blade of the knight's sword.

With a loud crash, the black claw strike was shattered by Monk Xavier.

He continued, sword in hand, charging towards the demon, which was clearly adept in close combat. His duty as a knight became even more crucial.

That was to protect the two ranged attackers behind him, keeping the demon at bay.

This was his role, to ensure his comrades could strike effectively.

By now, Erin's sixty holy water bullets had been fired.

"Xili."

She called out to Monk Xavier as he charged towards the demon.

"Understood."

Xili, having reloaded, filled the gap left by Erin, watching the knight's advancing figure.

"I'll cover as needed."

Unconsciously, the three had developed a teamwork-like understanding.

"Pests!"

The demon watched the knight approach, its right claw reaching down.

Monk Xavier's gaze didn't waver, his sword raised to block.

Crash!

A bright burst of energy and light erupted where they clashed.

The demon felt nothing, but the ground under Monk Xavier's feet cracked open, a small pit forming, his armor clattering as blood trickled from his mouth and nose.

This showed the immense disparity in strength.

But Monk Xavier's expression remained unchanged, enduring the demon's strike and moving even closer.

"Holy Judgment! Slash!"

Ignoring the turmoil within, Monk Xavier flashed past, appearing beneath the demon.

A knight's Holy Judgment inflicted severe holy light damage on its target, weakening it significantly.

A layer of pure white holy power enveloped the knight's sword, bursting forth in dazzling light as he slashed towards the demon's chest.

But the demon's free left claw swung down, intercepting the slash.

Again, a loud crash!

The dark corruption surrounding the demon's left claw was shattered, and the sword continued directly to the demon's left claw.

Sparks flew at the point of impact.

Monk Xavier's eyes narrowed.

The demon's flesh was tougher than he'd expected. Even though the knight's sword had sliced through its outer defenses, it couldn't breach the demon's inherent physical protection.

The disparity in strength was indeed vast.

"Is this the demon of this age?"

Monk Xavier's eyes showed a resolve to face death, withdrawing his sword to strike from another angle.

But combat was an exchange of blows, defense, and attack all happening in a moment.

So the demon didn't stop.

Monk Xavier heard the sound of rushing air by his ear, a sign of extreme speed and power.

Focused, he sensed the direction of the demon's swipe.

"Holy Shield!"

Monk Xavier, his mind utterly calm, stood tall with his sword in his left hand, his right manifesting a massive holy shield to meet the demon's claw.

Crash!

The claw struck the shield, sparks flying as the shield shattered, but it effectively halted the demon's attack for a moment.

Monk Xavier took the opportunity to shift positions, dodging the demon's swipe.

But a second later, with no resistance left, the demon's left claw followed through, swinging at him.

Monk Xavier had no choice but to lower his sword, using the blade to protect himself.

Crash!

The demon's relentless left claw sent Monk Xavier flying into a nearby villa, creating a tremendous noise.

"Interesting bug."

The demon watched the scene, not pursuing further but chuckling softly.

Then it clasped its hands before its chest, ready to block the attacks from afar.

It had heard the gunfire from that direction.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang!

Its massive arms were thick enough to block the barrage of bullets.

"Although it's nothing much, it still hurts, pests."

The demon's deep red pupils suddenly flared with red light as it bent forward, maintaining the position of its hands before its chest and charging like a steel fortress towards the two distant figures.

"Holy Light Grenade!"

Xili called out, his hands gripping the M249 light machine gun, unable to do much else.

Erin, having just reloaded, knew what Xili meant and without delay detached a holy light grenade from her belt, activating the top and throwing it at the charging demon.

The demon ignored it, continuing its unstoppable rush.

Boom! The holy light grenade exploded in front of it, blasting flesh from its arms, slowing its regeneration but not its momentum.

The demon endured the successive bursts of damage and reached the two, who were retreating even as Erin threw another grenade, joining the attack.

"Got you now!"

It bared a wicked smile, roaring at Xili and Erin as they tried to back away.

"Vermin!"

The force of its roar created a shockwave that crashed towards the two.

"Lord, please lend me strength to repel the darkness and protect our home."

Feeling the shockwave powerful enough to kill a human, Erin chanted, drawing on her inner power,
