Chapter 15: Chapter 15: The Arrow (Edited)
With Knight York's help, their pace quickened, and soon, everyone was seated in the car. However, there was a problem: Carly's right leg was bleeding profusely, her pants soaked through with blood.
Knight York glanced at Carly, who sat in the back seat with her distinctive, somewhat delicate, and aloof face looking pale as if she were a vampire walking in the darkness, her eyes noticeably vacant.
This was a sign of excessive blood loss, very dangerous, and it was unclear how long the two had been running without even having time to treat the wound.
"We can't go on like this! We must treat the injury first, or she will bleed to death!" Knight York said to Jesse, who seemed still in shock.
"Your friend's situation is very critical..."
Hearing this, Jesse, also sitting in the back seat, started to panic.
"What should we do! What to do..."
Seeing Jesse, who looked utterly lost like a scared kitten, Knight York sighed internally, resigned to help further.
He couldn't expect a girl who had been greatly frightened to remain rational and calm; their escape to this extent was already commendable.
After all, they have money! He couldn't possibly lose out. Remembering Carly's words from earlier, Knight York reached into the glove compartment and pulled out a small medical kit.
"Let's treat the wound first!"
While Jesse was still panicking, Knight York leaned back, tore open Carly's right pant leg directly to access the wound.
Tearing the sticky fabric revealed a ghastly wound that made Knight York frown, looking at Carly who was half-fainting.
"It's a miracle you two lasted this long..."
Jesse, seeing her friend's injured right leg, covered her mouth, tears blurring her vision.
"Omg!!!"
Watching the messy wound, Knight York didn't delay, starting to stop the bleeding. Having been a medical student in his previous life, handling such injuries was nothing to him.
He suspected Carly's injury was likely caused by stepping into some kind of animal trap, considering herself lucky for not damaging the bone. If the bone had been hit, she might have lost her foot as a trap could have snapped the bone outright.
Noticing the unharmed bone, Knight York quickly treated the wound, looking at Carly's left shoe, noticing the discrepancy in shoe heights, attributing it to the quality of the boots.
After disinfecting, Knight York started bandaging, then looked at Jesse, who was beginning to calm down, and asked.
"How did you escape? Can you tell me?"
Given the circumstances, without help, it seemed unlikely that the two women could have escaped on their own.
Hearing this, Jesse, now a bit calmer but still trembling, seemed to relive the past events.
"Chris... Chris led those beasts away, and we ran..."
As expected.
Knight York didn't probe further. While still bandaging, he handed his phone to Jesse, continuing.
"Call the police!"
After all, this situation, unrelated to him, was best handled by the police.
Jesse, instinctively taking the phone, hurriedly attempted to call for help.
Knight York finished with a knot easy to untie, indicating the wound's treatment was complete but emphasized the need for hospital care soon.
Just as Knight York was about to drive away, Jesse exclaimed from the back.
"No signal!!"
"It's okay, let's leave first."
Knight York was about to shift gears when suddenly, a swift breeze passed by, and he instinctively looked back.
"Watch out!"
At that moment.
Bang! An arrow pierced through the specially made glass window, aiming directly at a bewildered Jesse but lost its force after penetrating the window, stopping right next to her temple, quivering.
Jesse was stunned, sitting motionless in shock.
Seeing the arrow quivering in the window, Knight York's expression darkened. He quickly pushed Jesse and Carly down beneath the seats.
"The murderer is fast to have caught up already..."
"Stay down, don't move! Watch your friend!" After speaking, Knight York didn't wait for Jesse's response, quickly shifted gears, ready to accelerate away.
The murderer's strength was unexpectedly formidable, capable of penetrating his car's specially made glass with an arrow, indicating the quality was near bulletproof.
Before Knight York could accelerate, another swift sound approached.
Bang! This time, it was the sound of a tire being punctured.
Hearing the deflation, Knight York grimaced, realizing they were stranded with a shot tire.
Another whoosh sounded, and without any change in expression, Knight York grabbed a small bag from the passenger seat, prepared for the worst.
As expected, the archer, or rather, the murderer, had no intention of letting them escape.
Another tire deflated.
Knight York ducked down, checking on Jesse and Carly, who were trembling.
Seeing their state, Knight York didn't expect any help, only reaching back to grab a backpack from under Jesse's feet, pulling it toward him.
Swipe!
As he opened the backpack, throwing a box of slugs into the small bag, he asked.
"Tell me, how many murderers are there?"
Jesse, watching Knight York search for something, responded with a trembling voice, trying to recall.
"I saw two at first, they killed all my friends, leaving only me and Carly, Chris ran out..."
"Two..." Glancing at the arrow through the glass, Knight York felt it was too risky, pulling out another box of slugs into the bag.
As Jesse continued, she added.
"When we escaped, I saw two more people I hadn't seen before..."
"So, at least four, possibly even more..." Knight York thought silently, picking up his Winchester M1897, silently loading it with slugs.
Click! A specially made slug was loaded.
As mentioned earlier, slugs are designed for larger targets, implying greater lethality than deer slugs.
