Evolving infinitely from ground zero

Chapter 30: 30. Survival of the Fittest

Late at night, Lin Zichen lay in bed without sleeping, his mind full of thoughts about the captain of the security team's death.

The report said he died in the jaws of a giant mutant rat.

Was the big rat he saw in the car the same one that killed the security team captain?

But that so-called big rat was only the size of a cat. How could it possibly be the three-meter-long giant mutant rat?

He couldn't figure it out for the life of him.

He looked out the window.

The night was deep.

All the streetlights were out, no one was visible.

"Speaking of which, it's been a long time since I last tested my biometric attributes. Since I can't sleep now, I might as well go outside and test them."

Thinking this, Lin Zichen put on his hat and mask, and left his home quietly.

He specifically chose paths without surveillance cameras and after some time, he arrived at an abandoned highway.

He warmed up simply and then quickly took out his phone to start the stopwatch for a hundred-meter sprint test.

Then, just in a brief moment, he sprinted the hundred-meter distance he had measured in advance.

The phone showed the timing: 4.61 seconds.

Last time it was six seconds, this time 4.61 seconds, an improvement of nearly 1.4 seconds, not bad.

After testing his speed, he started to test his jumping ability.

He found a few places with some height, measured them, and then tried to see if he could jump up with a vertical leap to roughly gauge his ability.

After about ten trials, he came up with a fairly accurate figure.

—5.51 meters.

Last time it was four meters, this time 5.51 meters, an improvement of nearly 1.5 meters.

After testing the speed and jumping, it was time to test the strength.

Lin Zichen avoided cameras all the way, eyeing the cars by the roadside.

He had memorized the models of all the cars in this world and their corresponding weights.

He wanted to pick a suitable car, to use it as a barbell, to see if he could easily lift it with one hand.

"You're it."

After looking at a dozen cars, Lin Zichen finally picked a car that weighed around 1500 kg.

He walked around the car, looking for the right leverage point to lift it, then tried to lift it with one hand.

Three minutes later.

He failed.

The SUV was too heavy; he couldn't lift it at all and had to try a lighter one.

Soon enough, Lin Zichen picked a car around 1200 kg.

Halfway lifted, no good, couldn't hold it.

Finally, he settled on a 1000 kg small car for women, managing to lift it with some difficulty.

Last time it was 700 kg, this time 1000 kg, an improvement of 300 kg.

All three basic attributes had greatly improved.

One could only say that during the development phase, as the body grows rapidly, the basic attributes also increase quickly.

...

Time flew by quickly.

In the blink of an eye, it was Monday of the following week.

In the afternoon after school, Lin Zichen went to the gym to practice martial arts.

Saying he was practicing martial arts, in reality, involved training some basic hand and foot techniques, not like those powerful arts described in martial arts novels.

However, Lin Zichen didn't care about these things.

The reason he joined the Martial Arts Team was just to compete and win prize money, never to learn anything there.

"Zi Chen, your martial arts talent is too strong. No matter what techniques I teach, you're always the fastest to learn them. Your future is promising!"

Guo Xiangyuan said with a laugh.

He had just demonstrated a dodging technique to the eight team members, using a continuous movement of the head to avoid an opponent's punches.

As soon as he finished demonstrating, Lin Zichen immediately mastered it.

The other seven teammates, however, still looked very stiff and would need several days of shaking their heads before they could do it smoothly.

"It's all thanks to the coach's good teaching."

Having said that, Lin Zichen took the clean clothes Shen Qinghan passed to him and walked towards the changing room in the front.

It was just a quick rinse typical of the south, not the full back-scrubbing that goes on in the north.

So, in less than five minutes, Lin Zichen came out of the changing room.

"Xiao Chen, I've taken care of your dirty clothes for you," Shen Qinghan said with a sweet smile at the door of the changing room.

Lin Zichen noticed her fringe was a bit messy and carefully arranged it for her, saying softly,

"Let's go home."

```
"Hmm."
Shen Qinghan softly responded, silently walking beside Lin Zichen.
They arrived at the bike shed.
As Lin Zichen was just pushing his bicycle out, Shen Qinghan next to him took out her phone and showed him the photos she had just taken in the gym.
"Xiao Chen, look, you look so cool when you're throwing a punch."
"Your fringe swings with the momentum, flinging out droplets of sweat, it's just so cool.
"If your little fangirls saw this, they'd probably go crazy."
Shen Qinghan placed her phone in front of Lin Zichen, swiping through the photos for him to admire, one after another.
Lin Zichen laughed and said, "The main thing is your excellent timing in taking these shots."
...
Days went by, one after another.
Before he knew it, Lin Zichen had been a member of the Martial Arts Team for over a month.
At first, Shen Qinghan was the only girl who watched him practice martial arts in the gym, quietly waiting for him to finish so they could go home together.
Gradually, word got out that he had joined the Martial Arts Team and many little fangirls knew he would go to the gym after school to practice martial arts.
So today, not long after he began his practice in the gym, girls trickled in one by one to watch him sweat it out, and by half an hour later, there were already over thirty spectators.
"Wow, Zi Chen junior, that kick you just did was so cool. If you kicked me like that, it would definitely hurt so much I'd cry, right?"
A senior girl from ninth grade said, utterly smitten after watching Lin Zichen deliver a kick to the wooden post in front of him.
Lin Zichen felt somewhat speechless and immediately lost his motivation to practice.
He had brought up this issue with Guo Xiangyuan before.
Saying to not let girls come in anymore, as it interfered with everyone's training.
In the end, he was awkwardly met with unanimous opposition from the other seven members of the team.
The practice of martial arts used to be a couple of guys solemnly training in a huge space, which was incredibly boring and dull.
But now, with the sudden influx of female spectators, it made them feel like they had arrived in heaven, filling them with motivation to practice and unwilling to disturb this state.
It was the same for Guo Xiangyuan.
Seeing the increased seriousness in practice among the team members and more attention garnered by the Martial Arts Team with the presence of the female audience, he felt this was a good development and asked Lin Zichen to make a slight sacrifice.
After thinking, since everyone else thought it was a good arrangement, Lin Zichen decided it didn't bother him either.
...
Time ticked away second by second.
In the blink of an eye, it was almost 6:30 in the evening.
It was about time for Lin Zichen, so he took the clothes that Shen Qinghan handed him and headed towards the changing room.
At this moment, a ninth-grade senior girl blocked his path, blushing with infatuation, "Zi Chen junior, I brought you milk, it's fresh milk!"
"No need, thank you for the kind offer, but I'm allergic to milk." Lin Zichen didn't want to accept gifts from the opposite sex to avoid misunderstandings, so he found an excuse to politely decline and then walked past her.
But he hadn't gone two steps when a dissatisfied voice called out from behind him.
"Zi Chen, how can you reject a girl's kindness like that?"
"Even if you're allergic to milk, you can still accept it and then give it to someone else to drink. Why do you have to break a girl's heart?"
"Can't you be a little more gentlemanly?"
This was Zhang Kai's voice, the same boy who won a silver medal in a previous school sports competition.
And the girl who had just offered Lin Zichen fresh milk was the object of his secret affection.
Lin Zichen felt that Zhang Kai was being nonsensical and responded to him without a pleasant tone, "My matters are for me to decide, mind your own business."
Zhang Kai was just a junior high school brat, and he took offense at this, feeling he had lost face, and immediately challenged him:
"Dare to spar with me? If I lose, I won't nag you anymore. If I win, you have to accept the milk!"
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone perked up with interest.
It was the same for Guo Xiangyuan.
Lin Zichen had joined the Martial Arts Team for more than a month and had always practiced silently on his own, showering and going home after each session without ever having sparred.
Over time, the rest of the team became very curious about his strength.
Faced with Zhang Kai's challenge, Lin Zichen was also a bit annoyed.
To make this brat learn to behave and stop causing a scene in the future, he said without a second thought, "Fine, let's spar."
No sooner had the words left his mouth than familiar text information appeared in the air.
[Achievement: In a formal competitive setting, using the most primitive biological method, eliminate 1000 different competitors]
[Reward: Acquire Biometric Attributes—Survival of the Fittest]
[Number of Competitors Eliminated: 0/1000]
Seeing the text information in the air, Lin Zichen was initially stunned, then his heart stirred with excitement.
After such a long wait, he finally received his fourth achievement mission.
He wondered what effect the Biometric Attribute of Survival of the Fittest would have and if it would be more powerful than the previous three.
