Chapter 5 - Dao of Invincibility
Hao Yang looks at the young man before him and rubs his chin. Although Xue Jiang looked somewhat old, this age was not much to Hao Yang; he was basically a baby. What interested him was the Xue Jiang was a fresh Core Formation expert, and he had most likely only recently broken through. And he seemed to be here to ask about the Dragon Blood Cult; if Hao Yang couldn’t put the pieces together, he may as well just jump in the river and hope to be smarter in the next life.
“Hmm,” He says. “The Dragon Blood Cult's heritage has long been destroyed, and there’s not much to know about them. I can tell you what I know, but it will cost you; a thousand spiritual stones.” He says, firm on the price.
Xue Jiang’s eyes widen. He was only a poor fisherman, that amount was basically what he’s saved up all these years. But attracted by the allure of possibly progressing in his path of cultivation, he could only grit his teeth and accept it. “Fine! But you must tell me all you know!” He says, submitting.
Hao Yang lets out a smirk. Oh, how good it is to be young! He thinks with a chuckle. He waves a hand. “Come, let’s have some tea.” He says, leading the way deeper into the store.
Xue Jiang let’s out a sigh and follows.
The two sit at a small table and Hao Yang begins to pour a cup of tea for both of them.
Xue Jiang raises an eyebrow. This tea was quite fragrant. As he smelled it, he could feel the spiritual energy in his body stirring.
Hao Yang was already an old and experienced cultivator; he had ample time to acquire resources. Drinking Emerald Spring tea and other luxuries had already become a natural occurrence for him. “Consider it a courtesy,” He says with a smile as he takes a sip of tea.
Xue Jiang takes the cup and bows his head. “Thank you,” he says, before taking a sip. He immediately felt a vibrant energy entering his body, and his body was stirred into action to consolidate this energy.
“Hmm, the Dragon Blood Cult,” Hao Yang says, recalling the information he knew. “They came into prominence three thousand years ago before their disciples offended various Orthodox sects, and they teamed up to destroy the Dragon Blood Cult’s heritage. They held the only known formula for the Dragon Blood Core or the Eternity Core. As their disciples grew stronger and stronger, their bloodlines began to mutate according to their Daos, and to this day it is said that various clans came into a power precisely because of the Dragon Blood Core’s effect of strengthening the bloodline.” Hao Yang says, describing what he knew.
Xue Jiang’s eyes widen. “So exaggerated? It’s power directly produced several clans?” He says, not quite willing to believe it.
Hao Yang smiles and looks at the young man. I wonder if this kid would end up producing his own clan in the future, he thinks with amusement. “Yes, the Dragon Blood Core is a top-tier core, and the various Daos of the Dragon Blood Cult had the ability to directly affect their bloodlines.” Hao Yang says.
Xue Jiang’s eyes widen. That was what he wanted to know; what Daos did the Dragon Blood Cult cultivate? This sort of knowledge was something that whole sects were built on; although it was unlikely to directly receive a Dao inheritance, he had to at least receive a clue, or a string for him to follow. Currently, he refused to accept that his path of cultivation would end here.
“What Daos did they cultivate?” Xue Jiang asks.
Hao Yang raises an eyebrow. “You don’t know?” He asks, somewhat curious. As someone who had recently formed a Dragon Blood core, Hao Yang assumed that Xue Jiang would know better than him.
Xue Jiang raises an eyebrow. “No, I don’t know!” He admits.
Hao Yang smirks. So this is what you wanted to know, he thinks, confirming his thoughts. He had assumed that Xue Jiang had come to find out more about the Dragon Blood Cult, to maybe find a remnant, or maybe revive that old sect. In truth, at that point, diverging that sort of information would sort of be taboo. It is widely known that the Dragon Blood Cult was an enemy of the Orthodox sects.
Hao Yang couldn’t help but chuckle. If this was what you want to know, how exactly did you form a Dragon Blood Core? Did you stumble into it? He thinks, amused.
“Of course, the Dragon Blood Cult explored the Dao of Invincibility! To never give in and fight against the heavens for the rest of their lives!” Hao Yang says it plainly.
Xue Jiang’s eyes widen. What? How can that be? He wonders. He couldn’t help but think of the third principle he branded onto his Soul Source, which was to be a good neighbor. For some reason Xue Jiang wanted to spit blood. What do you mean I’m cultivating the Dao of Invincibility!? How am I in any way related to that!? Xue Jiang exclaims.
“By the way, this could be useful to you,” Hao Yang says, as a book appears in his hand. It was called the Thousand River Strike; a primary technique of the Dragon Blood Cult’s disciples. Anyways, this thing could only be practiced with an Eternity Core, so it was useless to him.
Hao Yang throws the book over to Xue Jiang. “You may as well take it; if it’s useful to you, you’ll owe me a favor in the future.” Hao Yang says. A favor from a disciple of the Dragon Blood Cult could be pretty useful in the future.
Another book appears in Hao Yang’s hands. “And this; these are my notes on the Dragon Blood Cult. You’ll have to give this back to me.” He says, throwing the book over.
Xue Jiang catches the book and stands up to bow. “Thank you, Elder Yang. I’ll be sure to repay the favor.” He says, before taking a bag of spiritual stones from his bag and handing them over. He leaves the bag on his chair before turning to leave. He had a lot to consider.
