Chapter 22: Rushing to the hospital
The door creaked lightly as Noah pushed it open. Timmy, who was whining behind the door, and scratching it in his anxiety, backed away on his four just enough for Noah to step inside the room.
When Timmy saw Noah, he instinctively released a growl. Animals could sense who was good to them and who wasn't. Timmy knew that Noah did not like him or his master. Thus he too was not fond of Noah.
"Growl once more, and I will have you sent to the compound," Noah warned. He did not like how the mutt growled at him, as he showed defiance in front of him, something that Noah did not take lightly.
More importantly, Noah was not nice to those who showed imprudence in front of him.
The only reason he hadn't thrown this mutt out of the manor was because Ari cared for this mutt. The last time he suggested sending Timmy away, Ari had fought with him to the point that it alarmed his grandfather.
Timmy lowered his head sensing danger, he did not growl at Noah anymore, which surprised Noah. Ari often praised the dog for being smart, but he always thought that she was saying it casually, but now as Noah watched Timmy back away, he sensed that the dog was indeed smarter than the rest.
"Now, let's see what made you howl?" Noah remarked casually as he moved further inside the room. As he walked inside, his gaze fell on Ari lying on the floor with a pale complexion.
When he saw Ari lying on the floor, Noah furrowed his brows.
As much as his heart thumped inside his chest, Noah did not hesitate to nudge Ari with the tip of his leather shoe when he came to a stop in front of her.
"What is this? A new tactic," he questioned, ignoring the way his heart shrivelled up when Ari did not respond. "I said get up, or I will lock you up again." He prodded Ari even more harshly.
But the woman on the floor remained silent as if she were unable to hear anything that Noah was saying.
"ARI!" Noah raised his voice at Ari. However, when he did not receive any response, he sensed that something was wrong, he crouched down on his feet and then placed his finger in front of Ari's nose.
To his shock, Ari's breathing was faint.
"Damn it!" Noah cursed. His vision darkened and turned faint when he sensed that Ari's condition was not good. All the walls that he had built around his heart started to crumble.
He was back to being a little boy who once knelt under the rain on a rough pavement while shedding tears as he clutched the body of his dying grandmother.
Noah hated death, and he also hated dealing with corpses and the dead. The last time he saw the cold and pale corpse of his grandmother, he couldn't sleep for nights. The current appearance of Ari resembled his grandmother, and that caused his hands to tremble with fear and nervousness.
Was she going to die too? Did he cause her to die?
He didn't want that, obviously. Noah only wanted to scare her off and make her drop the whole fuss regarding divorce.
'What do I do now? What am I supposed to do?' Noah felt flustered. He could still the curses and the threats of the monsters in his head, whispering unintelligible words into his ears.
However, nothing scared him more than the woman turning cold in front of him.
"Oh my! Miss Ari!" The voice of Raymond, his butler, echoed in his ears and snapped Noah out of his thoughts.
He blinked his eyes and swallowed hard. This was not the time for him to lose control of himself, Ari was fine. She most probably fainted and nothing more, there was no need for him to scare himself.
He summoned the warrior inside of him that he had cultivated for years, and then picked up the unconscious woman from the floor. Noah had to make sure that Ari was fine, not only because it would disappoint his grandfather if something happened to her, but also because he still required her!
But there was no stopping his nerves that started to wind up as her skin was too cold and pale resembling——
'Don't think about it,' Noah told himself as he rushed out of the room and took Ari with him.
Timmy chased after him. He was wearing the small bag that Ari had made him wear on his back, she knew that Mrs. Nelson, being the petty woman she was, her mother-in-law would not allow Ari to take even a handkerchief that was bought with Nelson's money.
Thus, she only packed two sets of clothes and her degrees inside the small bag that Timmy could carry with ease. It was to make sure that the Nelsons wouldn't make things difficult for her.
As Noah rushed out of the house, he did not have even the faintest idea what Timmy was carrying in his backpack, nor did he care. He placed Ari inside the car once he was out of the house and ordered his driver to rush to the nearest hospital as soon as possible.
The driver nodded as he turned the ignition on and drove out of the mansion as fast as he could. The two of them did not even take a look at the poor dog that chased after the car while worrying over his owner.
"Woof!"
Timmy barked at the back of the car that left the manor without taking him, he chased after it and went outside.
The workers of the Nelson mansion weren't concerned about the mutt running out, as they knew that the mutt was not relevant and well-liked.
The car picked up its pace once it reached Main Street, and Timmy chasing behind the car also picked up his pace. His four legs rushed past the road while he weaved through the heavy traffic.
However, just as Noah's car drove past the intersection where four streets crossed with Timmy chasing after it, a loud honk echoed in the surroundings followed by an even loud screech.
