Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Is That Even Something a Human Would Say?

"Yes, that's true." Liu Tao also felt regret on behalf of Du Sheng.

"I heard Producer Zhang already hired someone to write a song and plans to have diva Wang Fei perform it."

Du Sheng, however, was fully aware of this. He had his own reasons for presenting his song anyway.

Sure enough, Zhao Jian, with his extensive experience, made a suggestion:

"This show won't recoup its costs through just advertisements and the initial broadcast; it relies on multiple sales. If the ratings are good, the Guangdong and Guangxi regions will likely buy the secondary rights, and it could even be sold to Hong Kong or Southeast Asia."

In other words, once local stations in those regions purchased it, they would usually need to redub the show, which could create an opportunity for Du Sheng's song to shine.

If the song was good, it would eventually get the recognition it deserved.

Although it wouldn't be used in the initial broadcast, this might actually give it a chance for a "second life."

Many present, including the rough and straightforward men in the room, thought it was a pity to waste such a great song. Zhao Jian was no exception.

Who knew? Perhaps the song's story could even circulate as a little anecdote of recommendation later on.

Ju Jueliang glanced at Du Sheng and nodded with a smile.

"Ah Sheng, if you have any ideas, record a demo. I'll mention it to Producer Zhang when the time comes."

Although Du Sheng's approach seemed a bit opportunistic, his ambition and initiative were commendable. Selling a favor wouldn't hurt anyone.

Not to mention, this could also give Zhong Zhen something to report back on.

"Thank you, Director Zhao and Director Ju." Du Sheng smiled as he removed the USB drive and handed it over.

He knew very well how popular Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils would be when it aired next year. This song was bound to see the light of day again.

Liu Tao watched Du Sheng, now laughing and chatting with others, and felt a subtle change in her emotions. Even Wang Yi, who was usually quite prideful, now regarded Du Sheng with newfound respect.

If he could compose more songs of the same caliber, wouldn't that be a valuable resource? It seemed worth considering...

But before this thought could take root, a phone call interrupted her. It was a contact from her previous production, inviting her to audition for the role of the second female lead in a digital film.

After Wang Yi left, the responsibility for playing Liar's Dice inevitably fell on Liu Tao.

Despite Du Sheng stepping in to shield her a few times, she was the classic example of someone who was bad at the game but loved to play.

Before long, by 11 p.m., Liu Tao had drunk quite a bit of red wine and was visibly tipsy.

Ju Jueliang, Yuan Bin, and the others, who needed to arrange logistics for the crew the following day, gradually began leaving one by one.

Seeing that it was getting late, Du Sheng stood up as well.

"Director Zhao, since you have work tomorrow, we should call it a night."

Zhao Jian, however, gave him a knowing look and smirked.

"Liu Tao's clearly drunk. Aren't you going to help her out?"

With part of the crew already relocated, accommodations in Hengdian were arranged individually.

Du Sheng glanced at the unsteady Liu Tao and realized she wouldn't be able to leave on her own in this condition.

"Ah Tao, are you ready to go?"

Liu Tao wobbled to her feet. "Is this too much trouble for you? Should I just call a car?"

Her hometown was in Jiangxi, and she studied in Guangdong. She had no close friends in the area.

Seeing her struggling to stand, Du Sheng stepped forward to support her.

"Guangan Hotel? It's on my way. We might even be neighbors."

Having just returned from filming in Xinchang, Du Sheng was also staying at a hotel these past two days.

Finally reassured, Liu Tao let Du Sheng half-carry her out.

After drinking so much, Liu Tao fell asleep shortly after getting into the car.

Around midnight, Du Sheng asked the driver to circle the area, but they couldn't find Guangan Hotel. Feeling too tired to continue, he decided to take her to his own hotel instead.

By now, Liu Tao was so drunk she couldn't distinguish north from south, let alone remember the street or room number.

When asked, her response was: "Drink... keep playing dice! This time I'll win it all!"

"Sure, sure, you already did."

Du Sheng helped the rosy-cheeked, intoxicated Liu Tao out of the car and into the guest room.

Though she looked elegant, her tolerance for alcohol was laughably low. Paired with her habit of taking double penalties in Liar's Dice, it was no surprise she got this drunk.

"I'm not drunk... I still want to drink. Cheers... cheers!"

Liu Tao grabbed onto Du Sheng and started slurring her words, her entire body leaning against him.

Her black high heels had somehow been kicked off, revealing her slender feet wrapped in sheer stockings, kicking idly off the edge of the bed.

Du Sheng couldn't help but feel a surge of heat at the sight of her confused yet alluring state.

Had it been someone else, they might not have resisted taking things further.

Thankfully, despite the alcohol, Du Sheng's self-control prevailed, saving him from doing something reckless.

"Water... I need water... water!"

Liu Tao furrowed her brows, looking uncomfortable.

Du Sheng sighed, fetched a glass of water, and helped her sit up to drink. She ended up holding his hand tightly, making him feed her sip by sip.

"If there's nothing else, I'm heading out to rest, okay?"

Receiving no response, he placed the remaining water nearby and prepared to leave.

But just as he turned, Liu Tao, still drowsy, grabbed his hand and leaned against him, mumbling, "Don't go... don't leave me..."

"Well, you asked for it."

This sudden intimacy reignited the flame Du Sheng had been suppressing for over a month.

Looking at Liu Tao's delicate and enchanting face, a wave of indescribable emotion surged through him.

---

The next morning, Liu Tao woke up groggily, her mind still hazy.

"You're awake."

A yawning voice came from beside her.

She turned her head and froze. She was lying in Du Sheng's arms, with him gazing at her in lazy amusement.

Liu Tao looked down at herself and realized she was unclothed.

"Ah!"

She let out a piercing scream and scrambled to get up in a panic.

"What... what happened?!"

Seeing her unsteady footing, Du Sheng steadied her and pointed to the marks on his cheek and chest.

"Let me clarify: last night, you were the one who made the first move! Look at the lipstick marks on me—could I have done that to myself?"

Strictly speaking, he was the one being taken advantage of, enduring it all silently.

Liu Tao had clearly used her drunken state as an excuse to act recklessly.

"You..."

Liu Tao racked her memory, vaguely recalling bits and pieces of last night. Her face flushed red with embarrassment and frustration.

"You knew I was drunk. Why didn't you stop me?"

The more she recalled, the more mortified she felt.

"What? Not stopping someone is a crime now?" Du Sheng shrugged innocently.

"Besides, I'm the one who should feel wronged. What are you upset about?"

Not only was he not upset, but he was rather pleased with the turn of events. After all, he had gained without having to lift a finger.

"Listen to that! Is that even something a human would say?!"

Liu Tao was so angry she collapsed onto the bed, utterly exasperated.

But deep down, she knew there was no point in pursuing the matter.

She had willingly joined the gathering, and last night, she had been the one who acted first.

Thinking back, she couldn't help but feel both embarrassed and oddly fortunate.

At least the man she ended up with wasn't some old creep in his se

venties or eighties.

In hindsight, with Du Sheng's good looks, strong physique, and obvious upward trajectory, perhaps she hadn't come out on the losing end after all.
