Enmity of Atlas

Interlude: Ren Incantum 11

“Falfiar, ever the adventurous spirit, told me he wanted to go for a swim today. When I inquired as to what he meant, particularly knowing him and his outlandish requests, he said that he was curious as to why no one had tried to explore through the oceans, or rather why no one had succeeded. I tried to explain to him that venturing into the oceans was practically suicide, the terrain favoring the deep sea creatures to such a degree that fighting would be pointless. But he was incessant, bothering me the whole day until I eventually caved. It was an intriguing proposition, exploring the oceans, finally confirming that there were truly no other continents. There was just one problem–why swim? We could simply take a boat, or better yet, a flying vessel to confirm there were no other landmasses. We argued back and forth on this point, the conversations dragging on long past the point of actual points being made, but I did see his logic eventually. If we took a vessel, we’d have to have a crew, which would mean putting unnecessary lives in danger. The only ones who would really be in danger if we swam, though, would be us, two very capable fighters. The path we eventually agreed on would start out at the southern end of the Liafer, swimming north until we wrapped all the way back around. It wasn’t scientific by any means, nor very thorough. What if there were landmasses to the east or west? But I don’t think that really matters. I’m pretty sure this is just about having fun together. He was very adamant that no one else come along, after all. I had to shift around my schedule a bit…a lot…but eventually, I did manage to clear it up enough for us to start tomorrow. Hopefully it shouldn’t take too long–a quick swim around the world.”
