"And we're underway! The 133rd FA Cup Final, here at Wembley Stadium. What an atmosphere! The roar of the crowd is almost deafening, but the real action begins now—Leicester City versus Arsenal, and the stakes couldn't be higher!"
Peter Drury was the commentator for this FA Cup final, one of the most famous football commentators.
The cameras panned to a particularly high-profile group in the stands: England head coach Roy Hodgson, accompanied by his assistant. Their attendance was no surprise, given the presence of key English players on the field, such as Jack Wilshere of Arsenal and Leicester's own emerging talent, Tristan and Vardy.
Alongside Hodgson, there were also a couple of other prominent figures—German national team coach Joachim Löw and French coach Didier Deschamps—who had come to observe the various players of interest.
Arsenal's lineup boasted several internationals from Germany and France, including Mertesacker, Podolski, and Özil, as well as Koscielny and Giroud, who represented their respective nations in the coming World Cup. How far Germany and France would go in the tournament would heavily depend on how these key figures performed in this final.
"The teams take their positions. And it's Leicester who get us underway, Vardy with the kick-off. He plays it back, the ball comes to Tristan."
Tristan settled the ball at his feet. His movements calm, precise, a stark contrast to the energy of the crowd. He passes it to Morgan before pushing forward, his head scanning the field. But wait—there's Ramsey already on his tail.
"Arsenal have clearly targeted Tristan. Ramsey, relentless as ever, shadowing him every step of the way. A man-to-man challenge here—Wenger's tactics are in full force, it seems."
As Tristan moves deeper into the center, Ramsey draws closer. The pressure builds. A subtle smirk tugs at Tristan's lips as he turns to face the Arsenal midfielder.
"Leicester are finding it tough already. Arsenal aren't pressing, but they're reading the game so well, anticipating every move. The speed of their pressing is like the swiftness of a predator—Leicester's possession is stagnant for now, unable to cross the halfway line. The Gunners are defending with a purpose."
Matty James sees the writing on the wall. He moves to pass it to Nugent, hoping the winger can make something happen. But it's a trap. Arsenal pounces. Nugent, caught in the pressure, turns but is immediately surrounded.
"And there it is! Nugent is swarmed! It's a well-executed trap by Arsenal. Ramsey wins the ball cleanly. He's dispossessed Nugent, and now the Gunners are on the attack—Cazorla with it, looking for options."
In a flash, Cazorla finds Podolski, and with a perfectly placed ball, it's a counter-attack that leaves Leicester scrambling. A few quick passes, and suddenly, they're in the penalty area. Giroud's physicality helps keep Morgan at bay as he heads the ball toward Özil. With a deft touch, Özil sends a beautiful through pass to Podolski, who finds himself in the clear.
"Podolski's through! A brilliant diagonal pass from Özil, and Podolski is all alone in front of Schmeichel! What a turn of events!"
Morgan shouts the warning, but it's too late. Podolski is already in motion, his right leg swinging forward with immaculate precision.
"And the shot! It's curling… it's in! A stunning goal from Podolski—Schmeichel's fingertips can't get there. Arsenal lead! One-nil within the first five minutes of this historic FA Cup Final!"
The Arsenal fans erupt in a frenzy of celebrations. The camera pans to Podolski, who slides on his knees toward the corner flag. His arms spread wide, he roars into the camera, capturing the jubilation of the moment.
"What a way to open the scoring—Podolski proving his worth after a tough season. This could be his redemption moment, and he's taken it. The Arsenal fans are ecstatic, while Leicester's supporters are still in shock. What happened to that tight defense?"
For Leicester, this isn't how they imagined the start of the game. Their solid defensive record has been breached so easily. Leciester City who've been known for their impenetrable defense throughout the Championship, now face an uphill battle against Arsenal's fluid attack.
"Leicester's defense has been breached. What a shock! For a team that's conceded so few goals this season, this feels like a slap in the face. Could this be the ruthless nature of the Premier League on full display? Or did Leicester underestimate their opponents?"
Tristan looks over at his teammates. There's confusion in their eyes—disbelief, frustration. But it's only the first five minutes. There's still plenty of time to recover.
"Leicester must compose themselves now. This is a battle, a war of attrition. And it's not over yet. They've got to regain their focus. Can they find a way to break down this well-oiled Arsenal machine?"
The camera switched to catch a glimpse of Wenger in the Arsenal technical area, his face composed but with a faint smile celebrating. Meanwhile, Leicester's side is visibly rattled, and a few words from their captain Morgan may be all that's needed to steady the ship.
"Wenger's plan has worked—high press, block Tristan, and make Nugent the weak link. It's all falling into place for the Gunners, but Leicester, they're not out of this yet. This is where true character is tested."
On the other side of the coaching booth, Pearson frowned and turned to assistant coach Walsh to watch the entire replay of the goal on the laptop and review it:
"Nugent was slow in passing the ball."
"Look at their positions when they rushed forward at the same time. They seemed to consciously block Tristan and Mahrez's receiving routes, allowing the midfielder to pass the ball to the left."
"This may be a deliberate arrangement by Wenger. He knows that the only players who can pass threatening balls in our frontcourt are Tristan and Mahrez. So, relax the space on Nugent's side and let him get more balls."
"We should have Tristan and Mahrez switch positions appropriately and then drop back to get the ball."
After the discussion, Pearson stood up from the coaching seat and walked to the sidelines.
"Mahrez!"
While the Arsenal players had just finished celebrating and were walking back, Pearson waved to Mahrez on the right side to the sidelines and made some tactical arrangements for him.
Then, Mahrez, who received the order, came to Tristan in the middle and conveyed the tactical instructions to the team's midfield brain:
"The boss asked us to change positions from time to time and then retreat to receive the ball."
Hearing this, Tristan nodded, indicating that he understood.
Retreating to receive the ball and adding a receiving point in the midfield have become routine changes for Leicester City when dealing with pressure from strong teams.
"Guys, the game has just begun!"
While loudly encouraging his teammates, Tristan also reminded the two midfielders behind him:
"Danny, Marty, you can put more pressure on number 11 so that he can't pass the ball so easily. And number 19..."
After the second kickoff, Tristan retreated to ask for the ball.
Than Drinkwater in the midfield passed the ball without hesitation.
With Arsenal now pressing hard, the pressure on Tristan shifted. Ramsey, the central midfielder, was replaced by Erdogan, the attacking midfielder, who was now shadowing Tristan.
"But defensively? Özil is a different story," Peter Drury noted. "Compared to his attacking flair, his defensive skills and pressing enthusiasm leave a lot to be desired."
As Özil tried to close down, Tristan played a quick one-two with Drinkwater and effortlessly shrugged off the pressure. Turning swiftly, he faced Arsenal's goal with the ball at his feet.
"In Leicester's 4-2-3-1, the timing of the attack is largely dictated by Tristan," Drury continued, following the movement with his voice. "And when he turns like that, you know it's time to strike!"
Before Ramsey could make a move, Tristan sent a piercing pass to the right and unleashed a shot with his right foot.
"The burst of pace, the power!" Peter shouted. "Tristan Hale, with a shot that looks destined for the net!"
Ramsey, who had tried to close the gap, couldn't help but think, How is he moving so fast?
Tristan's shot rocketed forward, but Arsenal's keeper, Fabianski, was sharp, stretching to tip the ball over the crossbar.
The crowd gasped in disbelief. The fans of Leicester put their hands on their heads in shock, while Tristan briefly lowered his head in a rare moment of frustration.
"A near miss, but such a threat! A brilliant piece of play from Tristan Hale." Peter noted
The Leicester fans, however, weren't discouraged.
They erupted into applause.
Even manager Pearson on the sidelines offered his approval with a thumbs-up.
"Leicester City, not a team to roll over easily," Peter said, "That attack proves they have the ability to hurt Arsenal."
Tristan jogged to the corner flag for the set-piece, raising his hand to acknowledge Nugent for his assist. "Nice pass," Tristan mouthed, setting up for the corner.
The team's tactics were clear—Leicester would use set pieces to apply pressure. As the corner sailed into the penalty area, Mertesacker, towering over everyone, rose to head the ball clear.
The ball dropped to Cazorla, who quickly passed it out to the left for Podolski.
"Arsenal spring a counterattack!" Peter exclaimed, sensing the danger. "A three-on-two break for the Gunners!"
As the ball sped towards Podolski, Leicester's full-backs scrambled back. De Wright chased furiously to intercept, grabbing the winger's jersey to disrupt his progress. Meanwhile, Schlupp positioned himself to block any pass to the center.
But Podolski, known for his strength and quick feet, feinted left and then burst down the wing.
"Podolski's a tough one to stop," Peter noted. "De Wright's all over him, but Podolski's got that touch!"
But just as De Wright started to fall behind, Ramsey charged into the center. Podolski, without hesitation, crossed the ball into the box for a potential shot on goal.
Seeing the danger, Matty James, tracking Ramsey, made a tactical foul. Grabbing the back of Ramsey's jersey, he yanked him back, preventing the shot.
"Ramsey goes down, and the referee blows the whistle for a foul," Peter called. "James had no choice but to stop the counter. Smart play, but it's a foul nonetheless!"
The Leicester fans groaned as the referee pointed to the spot, signaling for a free kick. The fast-paced nature of the game was clear—both teams were going all out, but Leicester wasn't going to let Arsenal run away with the game.
