Kitten makes her choice. Lucien takes his chance.

-x-X-x-

Abruptly, Kitten suddenly stomps up to Lucien, making him freeze like a deer caught in headlights.

“You! Who even ARE you?!”

Caught completely off guard, not just by Kitten herself but by the whole situation in general, Lucien finds himself answering somewhat on autopilot.

“Err… I’m Remedy. I’m new.”

The moment those words come out of his mouth he wants to cringe like nothing else. Seriously?! ‘I’m new’?! He’d had this whole thing planned out in his head. He was going to make some in-roads with the Titans without fully joining their team. He was going to show off his healing abilities and earn a place as their on-call healer, allowing him to get closer to Starfire while at the same time giving him access to all of their biological powers.

It had all been going so well too. He’d already picked up Beast Boy’s abilities, he just needed time to properly assimilate those shapeshifting powers into his own arsenal. However, now he was stuck staring down the barrel of a dangerous supervillain’s crazy spoiled brat of a daughter. Seriously, what was his life?!

“… Lame.”

Wait, what?

Without hesitation, Kitten turns on her heel with her nose up in the air, rejecting him right on the spot. Instead, she all but prances over to Robin, making the Titans Leader freeze up just as Lucien did as she throws her arms around his neck with a gleeful crow of delight.

“This one, daddy! I want Robin to be my date to Prom!”

Holy shit. On the one hand… ouch, that was some critical piercing damage. Lame? He was LAME?! Obviously Kitten’s opinion shouldn’t mean jack shit to him… but it still hurt, he wasn’t going to lie. On the other hand, thank FUCK she hadn’t picked him. Sorry Robin, but better you than me Lucien couldn’t help thinking as he watches Robin grimace and squirm under Kitten’s hold.

The Titans Leader freezes up again however when Killer Moth shows up looming behind his daughter, his eyes narrowed in malevolent expectation. Until finally…

“Fine. I’ll… taken Kitten to Prom.”

“WHAT?!”

The exclamation from Starfire shouldn’t be surprising but it still catches Lucien off-guard. However, while Robin does shoot his fellow Titan an apologetic grimace and a pleading gaze to understand, neither Killer Moth nor Kitten pay the enraged Tamaranean any mind.

“Good. You’ve made the right choice. I would hate to have to drown Jump City in moths because you had to be… stubborn.”

“Yaaaaay! I’m going to Prom with Robin! This is going to be the best day ever! Come on Robin, we need to get me a dress and you fitted for a tux! I mean, I had a dress already but that was for when I was going with FANG, ugh. Its tots tainted now, so I’ll have to get a new one, teehee! You can help~”

Before anyone can blink, Robin is somehow bundled into Kitten’s car and the two are driving off… ostensibly to do as she’d just said and spend the day ahead of her Prom shopping. Killer Moth watches the two leave for a moment before giving the rest of them a single intense glare. He then presses some buttons on his gauntlets, causing all of the massive mutant moths blanketing the city to scurry into hiding in what feels like mere moments.

However, Lucien doesn’t think that means they’re really gone. Nor that they can’t be called out again at any second. And it would seem the rest of the Titans agree with him, because none of them try to stop Killer Moth from flying away a moment later.

Silence falls for a brief second as they all just stand there. Then…

“Did that really just happen?”

That was definitely a question on Lucien’s mind as well, but he wasn’t the one who asked it. Instead that was Terra, the blonde geokinetic looking as bewildered as he feels as she stands there with her eyes wide and mouth agape. Off to the side, Raven snorts derisively and shakes her head.

“Seems it did. Didn’t think we’d be whoring out our illustrious leader to save the city… but here we are.”

Her deadpan tone does not go over well with Starfire, whose eyes and hands both glow green as she stomps a foot into the ground beneath her hard enough to crack the concrete.

“We are NOT whoring Robin out to anyone! We need to stop this! Immediately!”

Beast Boy interjects there, holding up his hands placatingly.

“Now hold on a second. Robin wouldn’t have agreed if he wanted us to charge in and rescue him. You know how our fearless leader is. He’s ALL about plans. Aaaand sacrifices. If he thinks this is the best way to save the city from Killer Moth’s army, then maybe it is you know?”

That doesn’t make Starfire any happier, but before she can express her anger any further, Raven calls out… to him.

“And who exactly ARE you supposed to be? Remedy, you said your name was?”

The half-demon’s eyes look him up and down before lingering on the ankh symbol on his chest. Before Lucien can introduce himself, Beast Boy does it for him.

“Oh yeah! Don’t worry guys, Remedy here is on our side. He’s a touch-based healer in fact. That last attack damn near took me out of the fight… busted a few of my ribs. But a single touch from Remedy and I was back on my feet faster than I’ve ever healed before! The dude is legit, promise!”

The three female members of the Titans all look at Lucien at that. But he’s had at least some time to wrap his head around what’s happening… and figure out how to best use it to his advantage. No foot in his mouth this time, no sir. Using his powers to regulate his reactions perfectly, he lets a smile spread across his face as he gives the three heroines a jaunty wave.

“Hey there. Pleasure to make your acquaintances. As Beast Boy said, I’m Remedy. When I heard about the fighting, I knew I needed to do something and came as fast as I could to help out. If any of you have any injuries you need healed like Beast Boy did, just let me know!”

Of course, just looking at them he can already tell that they’re all fine. But then, he could have guessed that just from their power sets as well. Raven and Terra were squishy but their powers allowed them to fight from a distance and not take quite so many direct blows. Meanwhile, Lucien knew exactly how tough Starfire was. He was just as tough, after all.

Curiously enough, his little speech provokes an interesting reaction from one of the Titans… Terra, to be exact. Whether it was his smile or his confident tone, something seems to set the blonde off, because that’s definitely a rosy red blush on her cheeks as she ducks her head briefly and tucks a lock of hair back behind one ear.

Raven and Starfire on the other hand, don’t really seem to care too much. Raven because… well, she’s Raven. And Starfire because… well, she’s still fucking pissed. In fact, the Tamaranean Princess is all scowls as she steps forward with her hands clenched into fists at her side, giving Lucien a single sharp nod.

“While it is good to have another hero to fight alongside… this is not the time for introductions. Whether Robin intends to sacrifice himself or not, I do not care. I won’t let that villain have him in her clutches for even a single moment longer than is necessary!”

Everyone shares a glance at that. Even Lucien is a little baffled. Sure, Kitten was definitely a spoiled brat. And also a villain’s daughter. But is she herself a villain? He didn’t really see it. Then again… it was becoming increasingly obvious that even if Robin and Starfire were not in a relationship yet at this point in the timeline, all of the early warning signs were there. Starfire’s jealousy made that readily apparent.

In the face of their momentary stunned silence, Starfire begins to rev up, clearly intending to fly off and put her words into action. But before she can, there’s a sudden beep from all four Titans and Lucien can only watch as they take out their communicators and open them up.

“It’s from Robin!”

Thankfully, Beast Boy is considerate enough to read out their leader’s message for Lucien.

“He managed to sneak a quick text. He wants us to find out where Killer Moth’s laboratory is. Apparently, there’s no way that he doesn’t have a bigger set up for controlling those mutant moths hidden somewhere in the city. If we can find that and shut it down, we can remove the threat looming over Jump City’s head. And then Robin won’t have to go to Prom with Kitten either!”

Huh. Not a bad plan, Lucien supposed. It even made sense… more sense than Robin just giving in to Killer Moth’s demands and sacrificing himself in order to keep the city safe for a single night. After all, even if he did go to Prom with Kitten, what was stopping Killer Moth from just attacking tomorrow anyways? The man was a villain at the end of the day…

“See Star? Robin has a plan, just like I said! You don’t need to worry!”

Unfortunately, Beast Boy’s cheery words seem to fall on deaf ears. While the glow in her eyes HAS diminished significantly, Starfire doesn’t look any happier. As she shoves her communicator away, the Tamaranean growls and her hands clench back into fists.

“Not. Good. Enough. Who knows what that… that HUSSY will force Robin to do today while we’re trying to track down Killer Moth! Someone has to keep an eye on the two of them to make sure nothing untoward happens!”

Raven scoffs, rolling her eyes.

“You really think we should split up? That seems like a particularly bad idea. We can’t just let you go off alone, which means there would only be two of us on the Killer Moth hunt. And even if we do manage to find his laboratory, two of us might not be enough to beat him and secure the control device.”

… Could it really be that simple? As Raven’s deadpan voice washes over the ground, Lucien finds himself coming to a stark realization. This right here… was an opportunity. All he had to do was reach out and seize it.

“I could help.”

His voice draws all of their attention back over to him, with Lucien smiling a crooked smile and giving the Titans a shrug.

“Why don’t I back-up Starfire today on her… err, ‘mission’. And the three of you can track down the bad guy’s base and put a stop to this.”

It really wasn’t a half-bad idea, even if Lucien definitely had ulterior motives. Raven was right, they couldn’t let Starfire just go off alone to try and keep an eye on Robin. But at the same time, Starfire’s ‘mission’ wasn’t really worth having two of them on the bench for the Killer Moth Search. Hell, it wasn’t even worth having Starfire on the bench, but it was obvious that the alien princess wasn’t going to listen to reason here.

But he wasn’t a full Titan, so they already weren’t intending to rely on him anyways. AND he’d already helped Beast Boy out, making it clear that he was ‘on their side’… theoretically.

Despite making sure that not a single ounce of his real duplicitous nature makes it past his biological control over his own posture, facial features, and overall emotions, Lucien nevertheless can tell that Raven isn’t quite sure what to make of him. He chalks that up to her just not trusting easily though as she narrows her eyes suspiciously at him and begins to lean forward. Her mouth opens, likely to question his motives, but before she can do so…

“Good! Great, even! Remedy and I shall watch over Robin! You all take down Killer Moth!”

Starfire storms on in, grabbing him by his wrist and yanking him along with her as she speedwalks away from the scene. If not for his own enhanced physiology, Lucien might have been pulled off his feet entirely by her actions, but ultimately he’s able to keep up with her even as they rapidly leave the rest of the Titans behind.

A glance back over his shoulder sees Beast Boy giving him an apologetic look and a wave, Raven frowning from under her hood and cloak, and Terra… staring at his ass. Yeah, the blonde even blushes and quickly looks away when she realizes he sees her. Well now. That was interesting.

But it could also wait till later. As Starfire drags Lucien off, he finds himself considering what would be happening in the immediate. Clearing his throat, he gives Starfire’s hold on his wrist a tug, making the alien princess stop in surprise as she looks back at him, caught off guard by his strength.

“Ah… you are surprisingly strong.”

Heh, how refreshingly blunt. Lucien quirks a half-smile at that and nods… and then floats a bit off the ground.

“I can fly too. So don’t feel land bound on my account, your Highness.”

Starfire blushes at the royal address, but then smiles as she too rises off the ground.

“Wonderful! Keep up, Remedy!”

Together, the two of them are able to catch up to Kitten’s bright pink sports car, even though she’s obviously breaking every speed limit known to man. That said, Starfire hangs back as Kitten pulls up outside of the first of what will likely be many stores for the day’s impromptu shopping strip. Her hands curl into fists at her sides and her jaw clenches as she watches the spoiled blonde drag a reluctant Robin out of her car and into the store.

Lucien, meanwhile, floats next to Starfire, following her lead as the alien princess eventually takes them down to a nearby rooftop across from the store where they can remain unseen and out of sight.

As they watch the storefront, Lucien considers how he wants to go about this. His goal, obviously… is to seduce Starfire today. They’re going to be spending hours alone together and with this unexpected boon in the form of Kitten and Robin’s little date, Lucien figured he probably had a good chance of getting somewhere with Blackfire’s sister.

The only question was, how to go about it all? Was ‘hard and fast’ the correct answer with Starfire, as it had been with Blackfire? Or should he take this slowly? There were bound to be plenty of opportunities to work his way under Starfire’s skin if he just took his time with it.

In fact… he could do nothing at all and see where the chips fell. By just making himself available, Starfire might reach a boiling point in her jealousy where she decided that the only way to get back at both Kitten AND Robin was through… him.
