Chapter 3: Destiny Unbound
Atsuki had been offered a life-changing opportunity: to join the Celestial Concord and become an Arcane Warrior due to his exceptional strength. Raiden Kurogami, the mysterious old man, had explained the offer in detail, mentioning the legendary Arcane Warriors and their battle against the Voidbringers—an evil force threatening the world. Raiden's words echoed in Atsuki's mind long after the old man's departure.
Before leaving, Raiden had handed Atsuki a small purple crystal. "Whenever you feel ready," Raiden had said, "break this crystal, and I'll appear." With that, he vanished, leaving Atsuki alone with the heavy decision he now faced.
Days passed, and Atsuki couldn't escape the thoughts that consumed him. On one hand, he knew his powers could be a force for good. He could join the Arcane Warriors and protect the world. On the other hand, the fear of his own strength held him back. His powers had always made him different, even feared. What if joining the fight only caused more harm? What if his own abilities were more dangerous than he realized?
His life had always been defined by isolation, and he feared that becoming an Arcane Warrior would only push him further into loneliness. But then, a sudden thought cut through his confusion—his grandfather's words.
When Atsuki was young, his grandfather had been his only family, the only person to care for him. Before passing away, his grandfather had told him something that Atsuki would never forget. "There will come a time," his grandfather had said, "when you'll have to make a choice. Don't fear your powers. Stand on your own feet. Trust in yourself."
Atsuki's grandfather had known this moment would come. He had prepared him for it, even leaving a mysterious box behind—one that Atsuki was told never to open until the time arrived when his powers would be tested. And now, that time had arrived.
Without hesitation, Atsuki rushed to the old closet where the box had remained untouched since his grandfather's death. His hands shook as he opened it. Inside was a small, worn wooden box. Atsuki's fingers grazed the carvings along its surface before he carefully opened it. Inside, there was a letter and a locket—nothing more.
Atsuki carefully unfolded the aged parchment, his fingers trembling slightly as he recognized his grandfather's elegant handwriting. The letter began:
My dearest grandson,
If you are reading this, the truth I've kept hidden must now come to light. You were not born into my arms but delivered to me one rainy night. A man cloaked in shadows brought you to my doorstep, his face strikingly similar to your own. I always suspected he was your father. That man told me that your name is Atsuki Saito, Though he never spoke his name.
From the moment I held you, I knew you were special—destined for a purpose far greater than I could understand. Becoming an Arcane Warrior may seem daunting, but it is the path you were born to walk. Your strength, your heart, and your resolve will light the way.
I left you a locket, crafted with my own hands. You may not understand its purpose now, but in time, it will guide you when the moment is right. It holds a secret tied to your destiny—one I could not explain in this letter. Trust it as you trust yourself.
Remember, Atsuki, it is not your blood that defines you, but the choices you make. You carry the hopes of many, including mine. Step forward without fear. You were meant to lead, to protect, and to become a beacon in this dark world.
Make me proud, as you always have.
With unwavering faith in you,
Your Grandfather, Ryuzen Hoshikawa
After reading the letter, Atsuki realized that his grandfather was not Ryuzen Saito, as he had always spoken of his name, but in fact, he was actually Ryuzen Hoshikawa (星川流禅), someone with no blood ties to Atsuki's lineage. A wave of conflicting emotions washed over him, but amidst the confusion, one thing remained clear; Ryuzen had loved him.
He had cared for him as his own, offering guidance, warmth, and wisdom when no one else would. Atsuki was grateful for that love, feeling a bittersweet sense of peace. Though Ryuzen was not his true grandfather, the bond they shared was real, unshaken by the bloodlines that separated them.
But as he sat there, holding the locket and the letter in his hands, Atsuki couldn't help but wonder if Ryuzen was hiding the truth about his own identity, what else had been kept from him? And who was the mysterious man who left him on Ryuzen's doorstep, looking so much like his own reflection?
A new question lingered in his heart, one he would have to answer for himself in the days to come.
As Atsuki sat there, lost in his thoughts, the weight of the letter and the mystery of his true origins swirled in his mind. But something began to stir inside him a sense of clarity, of purpose. The love Ryuzen had shown him, despite the secrets, was real. It wasn't about his lineage or the blood that ran through his veins. It was about the choices he made and the life he chose to lead.
He looked down at the crystal resting in his palm. The same crystal that had been handed to him as a symbol of his future; his destiny. Atsuki had always hesitated to break it, unsure of what it meant or what it would unleash. But now, with newfound determination, he understood. It was his choice, his path to walk.
With a deep breath, Atsuki raised his hand and crushed the crystal. The moment it shattered, a brilliant light filled the room, and for a brief second, everything seemed to pause.
Then, the light faded, and standing before him was Raiden, an Arcane Warrior, his expression filled with approval.
"Atsuki," Raiden said, a warm smile spreading across his face. "I knew you'd find your strength. You've made the right choice."
Atsuki nodded, his heart pounding with the realization that his journey was just beginning. He had accepted the offer, embraced his destiny, and now there was no turning back.
Raiden extended a hand, and without hesitation, Atsuki took it. The powerful warrior's grip was firm but reassuring, as if offering him a guiding hand into the future.
"You are ready," Raiden said. "The Celestial Concord awaits you. Come, let's go."
And just like that, Atsuki was whisked away, his confidence now unwavering, his path clearer than ever. He was no longer the confused boy who had once wondered about his origins, he was now an Arcane Warrior, and the world was waiting for him to fulfill his destiny.
With his destiny now sealed, Atsuki's true test was about to begin. Would he be able to rise to the challenge?
