Elden Ring : a Tarnished of No Renown

Chapter 11: The Weeping Peninsula 2 (Revised)

When Sigurd explored the top of the castle, Melina went searching around the ground level and the court yard.

This is when she came across a room with a chest inside, locked inside it something precious it seems.

Without a way to open it, Melina touched the metal lock with her fingers.

And with it, golden flames sprouted from her fingertips igniting the lock that sealed the chest. And in mere moments the metal was melted down allowing the chest to open.

"Ah, this is..."

Inside the chest is a shining blade, and large enough to require two hands just to wield it. A Claymore.

Melina took the blade with her, and disappeared off again.

She scoured the castle from top to bottom and couldn't find Sigurd. Only then did she notice Edgar leaving the castle....

She considered asking the man for Sigurd's whereabouts, but decided not to anyway.

"..."

It was until a moments later she noticed a path leading to the back of the castle towards the ocean... There were paths leading to the bottom of the cliff, down to the beach below.

She followed the way down, and saw the corpses of multiple Misbegottens. All with a face smashed in.

"He can be quite the savage."

Even with just a club, he could singlehandedly massacre every rebels in the castle. Even if he has not made it pass Margit, there was no doubt that he could have the potential to unlike the people that came before him.

'Tink! Clank!'

As Melina finally got down to the bottom, there was only a ruins at the far end of the beach where shallow water is flooding on. There were loud clashes of metal coming from the ruins.

Immediately upon entering the ruins through the gate, she was met with Sigurd fighting a Leonine Misbegotten.

It wielded a greatsword twice of Sigurd's size, and moved around with the finest of an actor swordsman unbefitting of a lowly beast.

'Clank!'

With one swing, the Misbegotten sent Sigurd flying away even though he deflected the attack. Splints started to break out from his club as well, it can't last another attack without breaking.

"Sigurd, catch!"

Melina threw the Claymore at Sigurd right as he lands on the ground. Without even looking at Melina, he caught the sword in hand and lowered his stance as the Misbegotten rushed in....

Sigurd raised the Claymore with one hand, aiming towards the beast in front of him...

"Hmph!"

Then, he kicked off his feet as he thrusts the blade forward.

'Stab-!'

The thrust punched right into the beast's heart, killing it instantly. However, the greatsword was released from its grasp mid-swimg and flew right pass Sigurd, towards Melina.

"Watch out!"

'Clank-!'

With a simple sidestep, Melina evaded the sword with ease.

"Relax, I am more capable of defending myself than you can imagine."

"Yeah right... but as I thought, a greatsword still feels best for me."

Sigurd swung the blade to the sides, flinging the blood stains on it off to the ground.

"Did you remember anything?"

"Yes I did, with the help of this worthy opponent. Rediscovering this technique is a proof of my recollection.

Sadly nobody really cares about the Impaling Thrust even though some of the greatest spear masters will abuse this technique."

'Is it really necessary to explain that?' Or so thought Melina.

"More importantly, this sword feels balanced and it's not that heavy too despite it's size, I like it. Things would've been different if you haven't found this replacement at just the right moment..."

"I am merely fulfilling my part."

"A real social one aren't you? Either way you have my thanks. Now then..."

Sigurd sheathed the Claymore to his back and tried to lift the legendary greatsword that the Misbegotten was using...

"Damn this thing is heavy!"

"And it was swinging around the sword like a stick."

"If you could even call this sword that is. Look at this abomination, countless smaller swords molten and stuck to a single greatsword.

Even if I needed a weapon I wouldn't have used this ugly blade."

"Does the appearance of your weapon matter that much when you were using an actual stick just now?"

"Hey that club is precious!... Anyway, we should hurry out of the castle before more of those Misbegottens surrounds us."

"That I do agree. We can warp ourselves out of here by using our connection to a Site of Grace."

"Uhh... How do I do it again?"

(At the same time...)

[Third Person POV]

The lonely man in his armour walked down the highway out of Weeping Peninsula.

Things were relatively peaceful, that is until he approached the bridge of sacrifice.

"Rahaha!" (?x)

"There are more of them so far out here?"

The man's gaze then falls upon the body that those humanoid monsters surrounded... The bloodied remains of a young woman.

"Iri...na...?"

"Rahaha- Rah?"

"No... This can't be..."

The warden raised his weapon and charged towards the monsters. He screamed and swung more like a beast than the beast themselves.

The monsters were no match to his skills and his halberd, and were quickly dispatched of.

"Irina! Irina, you're safe now!""

"Urgh... Fa...ther..."

"Stay with me girl, you'll be just fine!..."

Soon after, Sigurd arives on a steed.

"Sir Edgar! And lady Irina!"

"Thank goodness... the kind sir.... made it... in... time..."

"Stop speaking Irina, you'll only make the sounds worse..."

"Ah... is that... the flames...?"

From the loose blind fold of her, one could see the light fading from her eyes. She passed away, succumbing to her injuries.

"Irina... No..."

However, the man was too stricken with grief to realize something.

"Wait... Did she just say... the flames?"

"..." Melina watched on at the distance, before disappearing into her spirit form once again.
