Edge of the Apocalypse

Chapter 21: Night Of Fate

The door of the bar was suddenly violently broken open. A group of armed guards entered and immediately dispersed from both sides. The bright muzzle of the gun pointed at the two groups of people in the bar, forcing them to separate. Then, a man wearing a formal dress, a yellow face, a fine moustache, and white gloves walked in with his hands behind his back. He looked around and said in a deep voice, "What's going on?"

"Mr. Smith, it's obvious that Fatty Luson is causing trouble." Lucy blinked and whispered in Alan's ear, "This is the building's security chief, Smith, a man with a serious sanitary habit. A fat, stupid guy like Lucy is the type he hates the most."

Ellen said "Oh" and watched the change quietly.

Smith looked at the blonde girl and said, "Miss Lucy, haven't we seen each other a little more recently?"

Then it landed on Allen and nodded, "Mr. Allen, you guys go first. I'll handle this."

Alan was surprised that they believed Lucy's words without asking. Lucy tugged at his sleeve and the two hurriedly left the bar. Lucy's dark green eyes narrowed into crescent moons as she smiled.

"They trust you very much." Said Alan.

Lucy laughed and slapped Ellen on the back. "Don't be stupid. They monitor every corner of the building. Do you think they don't know Lucen's tricks?"

'"If that's the case, why …" Alan frowned, thinking to himself that Smith and the others had deliberately allowed this kind of thing to happen.

"You're too naive. Smith and the others know very well what's going on in the building. They don't care about competition or friction between contestants at all, as long as they don't lose their lives. On the contrary, they'll keep a record of our performances as a basis for some kind of reference."

At this moment, Alan remembered that when he finished his reaction training, there were indeed a few people outside the training area who were using their brains to record something.

"Hey, forget about that fat pig." Lucy bumped into him and said, "You owe me a favor. Why don't you think about being my subordinate?"

Ellen was still a child and said bravely, "Even if you didn't show up, I can still deal with that fellow. As for his subordinates …"

Looking at his faint smile, Lucy's expression straddled down, "No, you're the answer again."

"I told you, I don't like being someone else's subordinate. However, we can be friends … My name is Alan."

Seeing Alan reach out, Lucy sighed and said, "Alright, friends are friends."

"Lucy!" The girl held Ellen in one hand and announced her name. Looking at Ellen's injured arm, she untied her ponytail. When the blonde hair loosened and fell down. It was as if a golden wave was rolling past. In that instant, it was as if a blazing sun had just risen, and the light carried by the girl's body was incomparably brilliant.

For a moment, Alan was dumbfounded.

It wasn't until his hand was wrapped in a ribbon that he came to his senses. Lucy tied a lovely bow on his arm and waved her hand, "I'm leaving. Remember to wash it up and give it back to me, friend."

"Where can I find you?"

"Here, or, look for me on the 17th floor." Leaving Alan a sunny smile, the girl gradually left.

The ray of sunlight pierced through his heart, as if the coldness and darkness in the depths of his heart had also dispersed quite a bit by this ray of light.

In the bar, Lu Sen and a few teenagers were taken away. Kurd, who was severely injured, was taken to the bar for treatment. Smith was standing in a corner of the bar. On the floor beneath his feet, a few drops of blood were bright red. Smith squatted down and slid a test tube out of his sleeve. He took out a handkerchief from his coat and wiped it off the floor. Then he stuffed the blood-stained handkerchief into the test tube.

With a shake of his hand, the test tube slid back into his sleeve. The security supervisor stood up as if nothing was happening and quietly left.

After returning to his office, Smith called in a confidant. He took out the test tube and gently placed it on the table. "Go and give it to Mr. Helsing, the butler of the Bescord family, and tell him that this is what he needs."

His trusted aide nodded, put the test tube into his pocket, and left quietly.

That night, Smith's trusted aide walked into a hotel, booked a room, and put the test tube into the room's private box. After doing all this, he left immediately. Ten minutes later, the room was opened. A man wearing a felt hat and a black robe walked in. He seemed to have known the password of the safe early in the morning. After opening it quickly, he took out the test tube and put it into a suitcase.

He carried the suitcase to the lobby and handed it to the lobby manager. He lowered his voice and said, "Immediately send the samples inside for a genetic comparison. The one to be compared is Master Horn."

"Understood, sir." The manager nodded.

The night was very deep, and looking up from the floating island, the moon hanging in the sky seemed much larger. In Babylon, you can even see the magnificent mountains on the moon. The moonlight shone on the island, but it was dispersed by other colors of light. The city of Babylon was brightly lit and filled with songs and laughter. The floating island was always so bustling and lively, and it was almost like a different world from the ruined and lonely surface of the earth.

When the black-clothed man walked out of the quiet street where the hotel was located, he bumped into two drunk men head-on. The black-clothed man cautiously retreated to the side. The two men raised the wine bottle towards him and said, "Would you like a sip, sir?"

"No, thank you." The black-clothed man turned around and left. Behind him, the noises of two drunkards could be heard. As for him, he quickly merged into the bustling streets. In the distance, an excited "Song of the Times" sounded in an unknown tavern. Many people sang in unison with the tune, but no one knew that it was on this seemingly ordinary night. In the Song of Destiny of the world, another melody was quietly inserted.

Just as Smith received a long string of secret remittances for his account, Alan opened one of the books Hughton had given him in his bedroom. The pages of The Biographies of Famous Generals had already turned yellow, and the paper was even more worn, looking like it had been flipped through many times by Hughton.

Flipping open the cover, there was only one sentence on the surface: The result was always more important than the process, and victory was always more glorious than failure. As long as you win, who cares if you use disgraceful methods in the process. The important thing is, you can survive, and survive until the end!

This book contains almost all the great battles that generals have experienced since the foundation of the Federation. It was precisely the accumulation of these battles that gave rise to the present life of mankind. Only a few of the battles recorded in the book took place on Earth, while the rest took place on expeditions to the Outer Realms. The generals who had presided over these battles were both wise and valiant, and there were many who were both wise and valiant.

However, regardless of which type of famous general they were, their campaigns could basically be summed up in four words: "Never tire of fighting."

As one of the generals said, "A wise general will do everything in his power to attack from behind or on the flanks of the enemy." There were only two types of people who were clamoring to fight to the death head-on. One was someone who had an absolute advantage and planned to add a military medal to his body. The other is an arrogant, ignorant fool. The former has obvious advantages and pretends to be generous. "The latter is unattainable. Such a person has long been crushed to ashes by the wheels of the times!"

It had to be said that some of the battles in the book were extremely scheming, causing Allen's back to shiver. At the end of some of the battles were Hughton's notes, which pointed straight at the lower limits of despicable shamelessness. At the end of the book, it concludes with the words of Alsarit, a famous general of the Federation.

Perhaps, some of our actions will leave behind an infamy in future generations. But those who scold us, please don't forget, if it weren't for what we did. Perhaps you don't even have the chance to curse. War had never been the name of justice!

Seeing this, Allen's little heart shook again.

When he closed the book, Tonislaw came. Alan came to the hall and saw the second lieutenant ordering a few soldiers to bring in boxes of things. Alan walked over and looked at the box. "What are these?"

"These are some good things." Tonislaw excitedly opened the seal of one of the boxes and opened it again. There were two rows of fruits arranged neatly inside. They were ruddy and plain, and the surface of the fruit leaves was still dripping with water, as if they had just been picked from a tree.

Alan's eyes lit up and he hesitated, "Is this … an apple?"

On the surface, although the environment was beginning to recover, there was still a period of time before vegetables and fruits could be planted. Alan had once eaten an apple. It was a smuggled product that Lanny bought from a black merchant. He still remembered the fruit that didn't seem to have much water, but it was still a bit sour and sweet. It was a delicacy that he would still taste a few years later.

Now that he had seen so much, Alan couldn't even react. However, upon closer inspection, there seemed to be a slight difference between the fruit and the apple. Its skin and leaves were thinner, as if one could see the fresh flesh inside.

"This is not an apple." Tonislaw took one out of the box and stuffed it into Alan's mouth. "Try them. They're absolutely delicious."

Alan took a bite, and when the peel entered his mouth along with the flesh. Their mouths almost melted, turning into a clear and sweet pulp that flowed into Alan's body through his esophagus. Alan suddenly felt the Origin Energy in his body tremble slightly. There seemed to be a resonance between them and this strange fruit.

"Hmph, Flameberry. Tonislaw, when did you become so generous?" Hughton, who was lying drunk on the table, suddenly said.

'"Because these are the rewards of my Ellen baby!" Tonislaw smiled brightly, as if his face, which was painted with a bewitching eye shadow, would shine.
